  1. This right here!! Remaining aware of where we are in the development cycle is crucial for managing expectations.
  2. ^^This guy loves hardware like I do...
  3. That's great news! I wonder why the suddenly reported as good....
  4. For me, I choose to roll with HexOS because someone finally decided to engineer a K.I.S.S approach to large scale file management. I'm in IT and have been for long than I care to admit and, frankly, as much fun as I have DIY'ing home builds I do not want to have to admin for my entire family. If I can deploy a storage solution that enables me and my family to easily stream, backup and share data without having to deep-dive every little config...count me in. I love this stuff, I just want it to be easier to make available to others! 🤓
  5. Hi @wheresmwaldo! Also, about how much data/storage are you thinking you'll need for backups?
  6. That's some Jedi DIY stuff right there!
  7. Sucks your copy crashed. That's why I ALWAYS use Rsync for large copies, it uses a delta of data moved/remaining such that if the copy failes it can re-initiate where it failed. Pretty sure there is a way to get Windows to do this just haven't explored it a ton. Sweet case! Is that 15 3.5 slots? How many do you plan to populate?
  8. @Joe4evr Love this! And don't apologize jank most times = DIY and efficient use of resources. Looking forward to the final build!
  9. I'll die on this hill. It's not peanut butter! 😆
  10. Oh y'all got jokes, huh? Well Jerome 'bout to break it DOWN!
  11. Hi @HiTekRedneck - I just got THIS home NAS. Solid build, quite fans and lost of ports. Please note - I have not really done anything with his device other than to install HexOS and play around with it - so please do your own research, price comparisons and use case evaluations. With that said, for a sub $400 device (plus any HDD's) I have been pleased with it, Good luck and let mus know if you have any other questions!
  12. Hey @Gamer3107 Thanks for sharing your experience! Sounds like you fought a good fight and I respect both your DIY hardware approach and fair sentiment; yes this is still beta software. Your drives are about as janky as mine, only I have just two. However they are so old, even after running multiple defrag-like tolls on them, when transferring between a 10yo system to a brand new one (connected directly via router with 1GB NIC and Cat6 cabling, I was running ~28Mb/s. It's going to be rough when I transfer 2TB. Cheers and welcome to the fold!
  13. Hi @alannicholas - You would need to perform a fresh install using the HexOS ISO. But please be aware that this will entirely reformat all of your drives and storage pools, assuming you're using the same system/drive as your TrueNAS install. Welcome and good luck!!
  14. Thanks @Mobius I'll share this!
  15. Hi @Rast110e5 Please make sure to check out our hardware FAQ. Also, HexOS officially supports Immich and Plex while we are still in beta (look for greater app support as we move towards 1.0!) Welcome aboard!
  16. Hi @Laurin Eder Welcome! I would recommend reading our hardware compatibility guide first (located HERE. Once you confirm you have the requisite hardware I would next read up on Immich which is targeted as a Google Photos backup alternative. Good luck!
  17. Yeah, patience and time will be key here. There is, what I believe to be, a fundamentally great concept of making NAS and home cloud solutions far more approachable. None of which are trivial technically speaking. So I might suggest taking time to play with both TrueNAS, follow what HexOS does with the releases and support and keeping engaged in these forums. This will be a marathon not a sprint. Welcome to the fold!
  18. It looks like full pricing ($299) has already been released, at least that's what it looks like from my Manage Purchases tab. I *think* that was the full target pricing, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
  19. This is REALLY important to note. Excellent reply @PsychoWards!
  20. Merry Christmas
  21. @Mobius It looks like Jellyfin might be the way I want to go. Seems super flevible and FREE! Between that and tailscale I hope I can get my content locally and remote. @Mawson That's just some next level ish I hadn't ever considered nor knew was possible. Your own dedicated channel streaming what ever you want? I have all of the original Doctor Who and Star Trek TOS shows and would totally hook that up. That's some (m)awsome stuff!! (you see what I did there?) 😁
  22. That is the EXACT reason the Netgear is facing the wall. That damn blue light could land an airplane!
  23. I'm curious how folks are or are planning to deploy media streaming at home. I ask because my current (old) NAS supports DLNA as does my TV. So, simply creating a Movies folder with my content that is easily accessed by the TV and boom...we watching some flicks. However, with the new NAS and HexOS I'd like to explore alternatives (when made available). I've used Plex many years ago and while their lifetime $120 (I think?) price seems fine, I do not want to jump to Plex just because it's available. I can wait. My setup is simple and can be seen HERE. Internet line in to Netgear router with both old and new NAS's attached via Cat6. I only have wifi to stream as @Mawson isn't close enough to run low voltage. Which is to say, all the hardware is upstairs and all/most of the viewing occurs downstairs. So what are y'all planning to do to stream at home? Thanks!
  24. No, it's more for the better redundancy. In a raidz2 config I can survive ANY two disk failures whereas raid10 only two SPECIFIC drive failures. Plus were running ZFS so no need for hardware raid.
  25. You *should* be able to do this, to my understanding, but that is asking quite a bit from software that is still in beta. I've seen others post that they were able to do this and others that struggled. Might be a good idea to search the forums and see what others have experienced. Good luck!
