  1. Hi @RSOL I'd look at TailScale which can enable you to interact with you remote data as if it were local. If local (and remote with some configuration) I am a HUGE fan of RSync do to its ability to create a delta of data copied should a transfer attempt fail.
  2. Raidz2 is DEF the front runner but 36TB is not what I'll yield in usable space. After formatting call it 35TB minus 20% to keep ZFS write-caching happy and healthy and I'm left with ~28TB of usable storage. Which when measured against my 4x8TB N100 NAS (raidz1) gives me ~17TB of usable capacity using the same -20%. 4x8TB @ $150 per drive (not including a spare) = $600/17TB = ~$35 per TB (raidz1) 4x18TB @ $300 per drive (again, not including a spare) = $1200/28TB = $42 per TB (if in a raidz2) While I DO love me some redundancy the price per TB rise using raidz2 is what is making me flinch a little. Don't mind me....I'm just complaining about costs 🙃
  3. Thanks @Sonic, good feedback. I think I'll keep the AMD for all other non-media streaming activities. Now I just need to decide on raidz1 or 2...
  4. That right there is my biggest concern. If I deploy the AMD device and it struggles with transcoding, I'd have to revert back. If I keep the N100 for Plex (and like I mentioned, it is doing that very well) I'd then use the AMD device as a backup to the N100 and for all other NAS stuff. Maybe I'll do some searching to see if any others have reported transcoding struggles with that specific AMD chipset. Thanks everyone!!
  5. Two devices, same manufacturer with slight different specs. Aoostar, N100 chip, 32GB RAM, 4x8TB raidz1 (currently deployed as primary media/NAS server) Aoostar, AMD Ryzen 7 5825U, 64GB RAM, 4x18TB raidz2 (likely raidz2, disks inbound) Would it make better sense to keep the lower N100 model as primary (which is doing just fine) or reverse and deploy the AMD version as primary and use the N100 as just a backup device? Tagging @Sonic as I know he has the AMD version in use. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the follow up - always super helpful for users to be able to search for problems and find posted resolutions.
  7. I am not aware of any special pricing but feel free to reach out to support@hexos.com and welcome!
  8. This might be slightly off topic but I found it to be an interesting product and hope it's helpful.
  9. Hi @migcooper I would follow THESE instructions when replacing your disk.
  10. Take a look HERE.
  11. Probably. What does TrueNAS UI show?
  12. I wouldn't know having only used Plex for about 3 months now. So far, for what it does as measured against my needs, it does it decent-to-well. I wish the interface was more responsive.
  13. I don't disagree with you. But I do understand the need for a (relatively) small org like Plex to raise prices especially if that promotes better or consistent feature enhancement. With that said, what will turn me to the Dark Side is when price goes up with feature reduction (looking you Amazon, you piece of garbage). I want businesses who make decent products to be able to continue to do so. I also want to extract value from the price I've paid. What I do NOT want is to see orgs like Plex to be swallowed up in some corporate M&A that puts you back in trash heap like Amazon. What I think I'm trying to say is, I'd rather gamble and pay a Plex and hope they do the right thing than give the devil my money. There is, of course, the total DIY route, which I've done before (and am willing to do again) but would rather throw some loot towards Plex/HexOS which makes me fee like my money is better spent. At least that's the idea. Fcuk inflation BTW.
  14. Cool break-down of the recent changes Plex plans on implementing next month. Kinda glad I got the lifetime for $99 a few months ago but, as dude said, this doesn't affect me.....yet.
  15. I know exactly what you mean. The joy of discovery is immeasurable.
  16. Smart. I would also check heat and material temperature thresholds when using non-standard components. Looks like a lot of fun @ulfn! Looking forward to see and hearing about it when you've got it all up and running.
  17. I think you're either going to have a blast doing whatever you want or turn into an evil genius rat who tries to take over the world.
  18. Nice blog! You do a good job of providing personal contextualization and remain mindful to link when referring to previous posts (so annoying when you have to go hunt for that). Thanks for sharing!
  19. No, but I should be very clear. My use-case is very limited and intentionally that way. I hope to grow my configuration and what it does as HexOS expands its capabilities. Does that make sense? So, yes I run Plex, Immich, TailScale and Radarr with no issue (mostly - check my posts for where I've hit issues but they are almost entirely config based not HW or otherwise). I'm sure you've heard/seen this before but Hexos is still very much in beta and with limited official support for apps. With that said, we DO strive to document our growth HERE and often use the TrueNAS UI to deploy apps that are not yet fully supported - do so at your own risk tolerance. We're not quite 4 months out from release so there is still a road ahead but we have MANY talented contributors to this forum and I've enjoyed engaging with all of them!
  20. @freid I'm one of these people. I have the N100 version now and am very pleased with it. I also have the AMD version on order that I should be getting in the next few weeks where it will be used to backup the N100 device (my main media server). Happy to answer any questions if you have them!
  21. NFS is not likely any time soon and totally agree that slow SMB transfers can largely be mitigated with proper network management and file size awareness.
  22. Well said! This is certainly a "deeper" look into ZFS file and backup management - just something I am looking at how to deploy when my new NAS arrives, which will be running HexOS.
  23. That is the expected behavior, yes. But please be advised that because this is still in beta things can be wonky. Backup your data, first.
  24. I agree entirely as well. If @Sonic ever feels so inclined a post about backups and associated scripts would be greatly appreciated and likely should be saved in out Directory of Guides.
  25. I was reading THIS arsTECHNICA article on ZFS (as one usually does) and was so impressed that I started looking at other stuff the author has worked on. Turns out THIS guy created a ZFS snapshot application that looks really promising. I've not done anything other than look through the repo but I like what I see so far and wanted to share. Tagging @Sonic @Theo and @PsychoWards because of the thread comments in THIS post. While not totally on topic to that thread, it made me remember that I should share this content.
