  1. https://aoostar.com/blogs/news/the-aoostar-wtr-max11bay-is-about-to-meet-you-all This looks like it could be really fun. It's more than what I need but I bet this things sells really well. BTW - who uses SFP at home?
  2. Fantastic content - really!
  3. Dude, you just noodled through an installation via TrueNAS, which is non-trivial, and ended up with a working configuration - congrats! Thank you for your thorough follow up. I am going to add your post as a place holder in our Directory of Guides until or unless a more complete installation write up is submitted - which I totally hope you contribute towards! Thanks again!!
  4. @kickhiminthenards Okay, I'm kinda shooting from the hip here, so please bear with me. It sounds like a mapping & permissions issue. My fellow mod @Theo posted a really great tutorial on how to install RADARR which I just followed this past weekend. In it, he shows how certain directories need to be created and "mapped" for the app - in this case radarr - along with setting certain permissions. Because Handbrake will be similarly run as a container I suspect there are parallels here. THIS video shows how to install Handbrake in docker (container) and maybe there are some clues as to how to properly configure Handbrake installation via TrueNAS. I hope this is even a little helpful and if I'm off-base here, my apologies - totally not trying to send you down the wrong path, only help figure out how to pull this off. If you DO make some progress, please keep this thread updated as I'm certain others would LOVE your feedback. Best of luck!!
  5. I agree that this would be a nice feature. You can do this now via the TrueNAS UI by going to Datasets, which will show you the amount occupied by each folder (Movies, Shows etc.)
  6. @KaTaz Def check out our SHOW & TELL forum and @ubergeek is a hardware ninja who may be able to help.
  7. Hi @kickhiminthenards - Do you mean identify as in cannot "see" folders or cannot be accessed? If you can browse to a specific path in TrueNAS you should be able to point an app to that path/location. Access to a given folder is, as you've touched upon, another story and likely a permissions issue.
  8. @Sonic That is significant and sounds like it was fun to build out over time. I think embracing small form factor devices, especially today, just makes sense for home environments. I had my little Netgear ReadyNAS for 10 years and just kind of forgot about it until I realized it was time to upgrade it. When I did, I also realized there were some REALLY cool products out there that are far more tailored to home use the before, like the Aoostart WTR Pro and HexOS. And here we are. I'd really like to keep in touch with you on this topic. I have a similar configuration in mind. My Aoostar AMD device wont arrive until later this month or even early April and I still have to get a few more drives but ultimately, this also what I am looking to deploy.
  9. They are almost identical systems. There seems to be an increasing amount for these small 4 bay NAS systems; I think folks are realizing just how much you can do with them. I mean, they're essentially servers the size of a large grapefruit. (By the way - just how many NAS devices do you have??? 😆)
  10. I sure will!
  11. I currently have the Intel version and purchased the AMD version which should ship later this month. So, eventually I'll have both.
  12. To claim your server go to deck.hexos.com
  13. Went for round 2 today and about an hour after importing the files this is what the Plex dashboard looks like
  14. Thanks for following up with your fix!
  15. Because I finally moved all of my data from old nas to new I am using my old NAS to back up anything really important. Once my 2nd Aoostar device comes in later this month and I get some drives for it I plan to do proper incremental snapshot policy.
  16. After loading about 1TB of data onto a Plex server, give Plex a break to process all of that data. After my copies were complete I couldn't understand why Plex responsiveness was almost zero. Until I logged onto the dashboard with the activity button constantly spinning. It is trying to pull a TON of meta-data to associate with all of the movies. So yeah...don't expect to play all of your favorite films and shows just after a huge copy.
  17. Which is exactly why I try to preach for consistent backups - it enables you to experiment with reduced risk.
  18. Can you tell us a little more of what's going on as well as what hardware and network you are using?
  19. Thank you for your feedback @PsychoWards and @Sonic. I saw your other post about running HexOS as Proxmox VM and specifically your comment about how much of the HW is under utilized. Since the larger device may only be for backups and perhaps one other use case, this presents opportunity. I'll keep the forum(s) updated as I get closed to actual deployment but this was a good first round of insight.
  20. Nice looking device....just hella expensive.
  21. Hi Jon - have you had a chance to see if post edit restrictions can be eased up yet?
  22. Heya @Zeldatrek - Dual channel is supported; can you log into your BIOS and confirm all is reported? If so, what about booting to a live linux ISO and see what is reported there. Please report back and let us know!
  23. I'd be happy to work with any/all commenters to help create a guide we can add to our DIRECTORY OF GUIDES - @Tamaluko Is your first post sufficient or would any additions or edits be helpful?
  24. Picked THIS up for my primary streaming/storage device about four months ago. I've been super pleased with its performance so I went ahead and bought a second SIMILAR unit primarily for backups and potentially other edge/IOT (read home surveillance) usage. The difference being the primary uses an Intel N100 and, near as I an tell, is a little better supported when it comes to transcoding and streaming. The backup is slightly more equipped with CPU and RAM. Primary has 4x8TB raidz1 and the backup unit (eventually) will have 4x18TB in a raidz2. The only issue I see is if I use the back up unit for home surveillance, the high read/write IO could impact overall disk life. Am I wrong here? Tagging @Sonic as I would like to hear your experience on the AMD version of the Aoostar, so far. Thanks!
  25. To the best of my knowledge there has not been a published version as we are still pre 1.0 (beta) - even the HexOS ISO download link refers to the TrueNAS version. That will (should?) be changing once version 1.0 is release.
