i haven't tried this myself but makemkv should have a docker app and its supposed to just work on truenas so i would think it would be about the same on hexos

You must but / pre-order BEFORE you can even test the BETA?
Mobius replied to Nuno Marques's topic in Coffee Talk (Off-Topic)
It's just a matter of perspective. Without going into truenas there is only Plex and immich at this time. -

There was a fair bit of pushback early on but a lot of us have decided to just bite the bullet. one thing to note is that there is a 30 day refund policy if you don't like it. If you wanna take advantage of that i would suggest waiting for at least beta 2 since there isn't much we can do with beta 1 -
i would with the i7 just for the newer version of quick sync and the igpu

I personally am a big fan of keeping an active community on reddit. For software i am less invested in, i would still like to sometimes pop in to a community where i don't have to make a new account. but +1 for bbc and irc lmao
-
its for data that i wouldn't mind losing and not worth the cost of redundancy
-
yeah i had to delete my single drive pool because of that myself
-
yup jellyfin has been heavily requested and im looking forward to it too.
-
im gonna grab myself a n5 too one of these days but it seems so big compared to the n2-4
-
the sliger defintely looks super slick but i might want more drives bays lol

Its kinda hard to tell whatll be more efficient without checking at the wall. Conventional wisdom says the one without a dgpu should be more efficient but that goes out the window since the precision is a laptop and i dunno how to estimate that. The precision would likely run circles around the optiplex when it comes to encoding provided that you can get nvenc to work with the quadro. A quick google search does show that the m2200 has nvenc support. honestly i don't think you can go wrong with either system. If you had a kill-a-watt meter i would have just suggested plugging them both in and picking whichever uses less power at idle

Notification for System Update - But no option to update
Mobius replied to Bitofageek's question in OS & Features
ignore it, it stems from an update for the underlying truenas os. -
Have you considered checking if Frankensteing the sff internals with the gaming pc case was feasible?
-
As on right now if you make a single drive pool using truenas ui as a workaround it breaks hexos. The devs are very much aware we really want this feature and support will come eventually.
-
More options will always be welcome by the community. I'm sure if it gets a one click install i would try it too.
-
oh thats awesome i gotta change that asap. thanks for the help

i keep forgetting to hit follow on topics i make 😅 i would defintely have replied to everyone earlier honestly thats a great idea and way less risky than what i did (grab a $10 ssd from craigslist) but for now im not keeping anything critical. What do you plan to do with the gpu? Im always looking to make the most out of my machine This is a big one for sure. Between the premium that more bays cost and the power costs of more but smaller drives, going as big as financially feasible makes the most sense. Wow how old is that psu? My seasonic from 2017 used standard connectors. You got the full experience from the rough to the better to to even better. An all ssd nas would be so nice but man does it sound expensive especially to get storage parity with hdds. I have around 50tb of storage at the moment in hdds active and getting that with consumer ssds would be around $4000 with 1 drive for parity. maybe once i make it big in life i can afford a few of those 100+tb solidgym ssds Yeah sometimes we really do just get too excited and way overthink and complicate things.

future beta group Future HexOs Beta Group (Post V1)
Mobius replied to Theo's topic in Roadmap & Feature Requests
yeah i dont mind testing things. -
it would be appreciated even if it wasn't concrete, like if for example we got communication saying next update is coming in 1-3 months.
-
ah yeah that makes a lot of sense.

before i built my server i did a decent amount of google searches to see if faster ram makes a difference. Pretty much everyone just said to focus on more ram than faster ram.
-
Looking forward to tariffs lowering prices /s But i think the big difference is the best PC store in the USA, microcenter. Their prices were around 60% other places.

so realtek nic in general are pretty notorious for being unstable. the realtek 2.5gb nic in my asus motherboard is known to cause corruption issues with iscusi so truenas straight up disables the drivers for it. I wasn't able to figure out the workaround to turning the nic back on and just ended up using a usb nic temporarily. I went for the core ultra 265k because there was a pretty good deal for it $220usd if a motherboard was also purchased. Itll probably make significantly less if you are paying the 312 euros i am seeing in germany for a 245k.

I think the most common place its available these days is aliexpress but it couldn't hurt to ask that site's support when itll be back in stock Yeah im with you in that AMD is wayyyy better for gaming or even general computing. Its nice knowing that intel still has its place so that there is at least some competition. Look into used 12th gen cpus that are used. In general cpus tend to have almost zero downside being bought used. This way you can likely get a 12500 or higher for around the same exact price and those do have a better intel uhd 770 gpu compared to the intel uhd 730 gpu found in the 12100. the motherboard you picked has a realtec nic which may give you problems. i would suggest looking for a different motherboard with an intel/killer nic. i think 650w will not be overkill for a system with potentially up to 12 drives since there tends to be spikes when you first spin up 12 drives. skip getting an aio, its way overkill and adds another point of failure. stock cooler is more than adequate for the 12100 and if you go used without a cooler something like the artic freezer 36 is a pretty good value when looking at prices in germany i would just make sure all the lower level fan slots for the hdds are populated (i believe that is 2) and 1 for the top level for the computing components. in the future when you add a hba i might zip tie a small fan to it to keep that cool.

Yeah AMD really makes it difficult to keep track of what each cpu can do. I agree 2 sticks are better than 1 in general but i tend to prioritize fewer larger sticks in servers where upgrading is considered. I'm not all that convinced most home servers will even use all that bandwidth 😅
