i have a mesh router at home that is hard wired but it might be time for me to get another node that won't be wired. but rather using wireless backhaul. maybe that will work better than a cheap extender. Wifi support would have been a game changer for me. leaving the server in a corner far away from everyone so it doesn't make noise that bothers anyone would have been fantastic that is most ideal

If i see them i'll for sure try to add them to this thread

There are some great tutorials already Like this or this It would be great if there was a dedicated tutorial section so these don't get hidden. No doubt more tutorials are gonna be incoming as more of us use hexos so itll be great if there is a dedicated spot for them

single drive pools is a feature that will eventually be supported. Jonp is very aware of our frustration.
-
pool migration is defintely on the roadmap but i don't know if the team confirmed its coming with 1.0
-
quick sync from the a310 will be a great help for sure

i might be missing something but truenas/hexos does not support wifi. a wifi extender with ethernet port can be used but its no where near an ideal scenario. I compared an extender that was 5ft from my router to hardwire and it was twice as slow to upload to the server and 5x slower to download from the server ive seen a lot of ppl mention ideally you have at least 1gb of ram for 1tb of storage. Truenas/hexos uses the ram as a read cache so the more ram you have the snappier it'll feel

one thing to keep in mind is that installing hexos without a gpu for video out will likely be annoying. sticking a gpu into the machine just for the install would be the easiest solution if you had one lying around or in a system you can take out of.

As long as we can migrate any pool we have it shouldn't be a big deal however it'll be a super pain in the ass if we can't and have to delete everything. For the longest time i was trying to figure out how to move my data to a new server without buying new drives. My solution was just to bite the bullet and get more drives which is kinda painful at 5 x 14tb

I think for now everyone is under the assumption that it will update on top of current installation but like you said it is a beta a things might change
-
As of now there is no way to migrate pools from truenas but its defintely been something a lot of people have been interested in so itll likely eventually come

My bad, i just assumed the first thing in my history for aoostar would be the n100 😅

to think even mods could get rate limited

i get that itch and i suspect most of us here do too. instead of going crazy with over 13 drives and swapping out your parts consider using fewer high capacity 24tb-ish drives. with every additional drive you are likely adding $5-15 dollars worth of electricity to your bill each year and it adds up. You can also go nuts with what you have now and then when you use up all your storage space you can start working on a 2nd server since the only thing better than 1 server is multiple servers lol.

when i was a lot younger i would walk by a beautiful blue 350z everyday on my way to school. Ever since then i have really liked the Z. when the 370z came out i thought i liked how it was a bit longer which just made the car look so much sleeker From day 1 i was not a fan at all of the new z's 😬 grille. but the nismo front end looks so nice.

Nothing exciting from me either. Currently using my 2013 nissan murano. With how fast the prices of the new Z is dropping i am very tempted to get one, one of these days

glad to hear it'll be moved cause i think today alone i answered 3 at least different threads about it -
it really depends on what you plan to use the server for. if your current machine adequately meets your needs might as well stick to it if it doesnt then it is time to upgrade. this n100 machine gets recommended a fair bit on this form however if say plex with subtitles are important to you i would get a used desktop or a i5 8500t + motherboard on ebay for around $100
-
at this moment you can make that pool via truenas ui as a one drive "stripe" pool however this causes hexos to freak out at the time and i wouldn't recommend it. i too am waiting for hexos to not freak out when adding one drive pools since i would like a single ssd to be my app drive The team is aware we want single drive pools and it will be coming in a future update. At this time there is no eta

as far as i can tell all the "native" hexos apps are just streamlined docker installations. It'll defintely be a lot easier to use te hexos 1 click installs when the apps are supported (currently only immich and plex are 1 click supported with more to come) if an app isnt supported you can only request for it and wait it gets 1 click supported or you install it like you have previously theoretically there should be no difference regardless of whichever method you choose

turn off your machine go to the deck hit the disconnect server button turn on new server adopt new server in the deck
-
for the boot drive you can get away with anything over 16gb but might be safer to go with 32gb+ i've been recommending jonsbo cases with the n4 being a pretty great value while looking pretty good too. if you care about things like subtitles i would suggest getting a used i5 8500t on ebay with a used motherboard.
