With just 1 ssd you might be hitting anywhere between 8-20w idle. Each hdd can add 3-6w idle depending on how beefy of a hdd you use. Like a 24tb 7200rpm exos drive will have a higher power consumption than some smaller drives. From what i hear more ram is more useful than a "cache ssd". Assuming you mean the intel i7 7700k, it should be more than capable for what you mentioned you don't need ecc memory. Truenas which HexOS is built on top of supports nut for ups shutdown commands. I imagine HexOS will support the same but i can't say for certain. I'm also interested in finding a ups for my server. if it helps this is a list of ups that has a supported nut protocol but it goes over my head.

at 3 or 4 streams at once with the arr stack and more you are pushing the lil machine to its limits. I would consider going with something a little beefier. i agree its a convenient little machine but a quick search on reddit shows that it struggles pretty badly with burning subtitles to videos. If that isnt important to you itll definitely be able to run a few plex streams.

As far as i know even tho it is on that list, as of the beta release only plex and immich has the easy hexos setup. Jellyfin will com later and for now it'll bring up the normal truenas way of installation.

depending on your motherboard and psu size as well as your needs/budget the jonsbo n2, n3, n4 or n5 could work. Fractal node 304 or 804 are other options. alternatively you can go on uk.pcpartpicker.com, input your components and then set the filters for what kind of case you would like

it took some time but i figured it out and was able to shave off around 150 euros Here is the build went for an intel cpu/mobo for quick sync. you can save even more by going for a 12100 and h610 mobo but i figured you didn't want to go cheapest possible. for the cooler in germany the arctic freezer 36 co (continuous operation) provides a better value than in the states since every other cooler i would pick is far more expensive. HOWEVER the non k sku intel cpus like the 12400 in this part list comes with a stock cooler and i think its more than good enough. so if you are comfortable with using the stock cooler i would just save the money and use the stock cooler. for ram i left it alone but i'm sure you know buying 2x32gb costs less per gb than 1x32gb For ssd i swapped it out with the cheapest decent 1tb ssd with dram I assume you already have your case but the off chance you didn't the case i replaced it with is very cheap and 1/3 of the size while being able to hold up to 3 full size hdd. I picked the cheapest 80+ gold power supply from a brand i trust. I didn't touch the HDDs but you can save a bit more buying new on ebay if you trust the site. I would only purchase listings that are in the country personally.

Another thing to keep in mind is that even tho amd cpus make great sense for pretty much every other use case, for plex servers Intel makes more sense because of quick sync for video transcoding. AMD will probably work fine for one steam but if you are gonna be dropping an entire grand your build is not well balanced. If i can figure out how to set pc part picker to Germany i can try to make a more reasonable build for you

This is very subjective to your needs and budget. My build that is a hodgepodge of new stuff and old stuff i had handy like my case and psu. I plan on migrating to a jonsbo n5 eventually $900 Reasonable High-end build - Boot drive and ram is something you can change and the 12400 can be substituted for a 12100 to save some more. $400 budget build with quick sync - uses used cpu/mobo and honestly more corners can be cut like the case. My primary use case is jellyfin server so even tho n100 is probably fine im looking for intel quick sync. (with this combo probably worth asking the motherboard seller if they can update the bios for you, otherwise i think microcenter does it for a fee) Dylan's n100 prebuilt is not a bad value either.

I guess to follow up on your question, if i have a large boot drive, can i do anything with it?

it seems like you can remove a server from your account and migrate the license to another server.

On a side note it would be nice if we could name the licenses so if we have multiple it is easier to keep track of.

its not that its insanely loud, but im get annoyed very easily by constant sound. Example being I got rid of every clock that ticks in my home because they drove me nuts.

As a more casual user, i use my nas more for archival and don't need any of my files in speeds faster than wifi can provide. I had no issues playing back a 2 hour 60gb movie via jellyfin using wifi so i am more than content. I want wifi because it lets me stick the super loud machine in a corner far away from anyone that can hear those damn exos drives i have. I don't have networking infrastructure in that corner and its a lot of effort running cabling in an approved (by family) manner in a rented home.

this is all i want and its more than good enough for a jellyfin server
