  1. im hoping that there is either some warning or there will be black friday sales going forward but no way to tell now when the full release will come out. theoretically figuring out truenas shouldnt be needed at all when hexos enters full release.
  2. oh man, following the one tb of storage for every gb of ram rule , you're gonna have one beefy small home nas 😂
  3. yeah that would be cool but i think it also requires your motherboard to have a wake on lan feature in the bios. If you don't have a motherboard with that feature, your best bet might be to get a jetkvm or pikvm.
  4. I think a system similar to github would be nice where before reporting a bug or requesting a feature you need to fill out a questionnaire with things like, yes i searched for this first.
  5. new tutorial about enabling recycle bin
  6. it didn't even occur to me that this would be a feature i would so sorely miss. thanks for the guide
  7. that explains it
  8. At the moment there isn't much HexOS can do that is easier than truenas. if i were you i would just buy a license and hold on to it for when HexOS supports importing pools.
  9. its liberating having ethernet where you want it and i defintely support running wire all over.
  10. 1) at the moment there is no pool migration but it should come in a future update (with no eta) so if you can wait for that it might be easier for you. 2) hexos is $199 as a promotional price currently, I'm not sure how much longer that price will last

    FINALLY!

Have you set up your system yet?
  12. How did you end up getting it connected to Wi-Fi?
  13. jpadgett's suggestion is currently the most correct answer however assuming you are currently using freebsd as your server OS you will be able to do a pool migration to Hexos when a future version of hexos comes out with pool migration support. So your current options are jpadgett's method wait for hexos update with pool migration if you need a gui asap you can try migrating to main truenas scale
  14. I mean it looks like it meets minimum specs for truenas/hexos. Based on some random pdf i found online it supports a max size of 1tb drives which could just be from back in the day when 1tb was the highest available hdd size. I think since you have it, its worth a shot.
  15. 1) im not sure 2) doesn't particularly matter, I'm using a 265k and it doesnt support HT, it works just fine. That said if you are gonna be using an ancient cpu from before the multithreaded days it might be problematic. 3) your cpu being an F sku does not support intel quicksync for hardware transcoding, you will need to use your 1660 with nvenc for transcoding man every used cpu i recommend ends up being sold out by the time someone else needs a recommendation 😅 if you don't already have your 9400f in hand already i would look into a 8500t on ebay. It has an igpu which is great for troubleshooting if you ever have a gpu issue, support for quick sync but most importantly you won't need the dgpu. I could be wrong but it looks like your usecases don't really need a gpu as strong as your 1660 and on top of that you would be saving a lot of money on electricity without a dgpu sipping power during idle 24/7
  16. my personal bias towards bald eagles and big macs aside i agree with you
  17. I would need to know the specific specs of said machine because googling it shows many different machines with the same name. for example the first one i saw with an opteron is probably not worth the effort.
  18. yes you can do this.
  19. I'm just going off of my experience at r/hardwareswap where more than half of the response dms i get are from scammers
  20. glad it worked out
  21. try setting up tailscale following this guide hope it helps
  22. i was thinking about it and if someone were to use mesh wifi, it might work slightly better than a repeater, even if they are just using wireless backhaul.
  23. I think official bst is probably not a great idea just yet. They def need more constant moderation and attract all the scammers. Maybe once the team is more acclimated with everything it'll be fine
  24. You were able to do things other than Plex and immich via the hexos ui?
  25. I agree, my current data is stuck on a das and i would love to more easily move everything over to my hexos server.
