  1. All of the guides posted here have been posted in the DIrectory of Guides.
  2. Great post @WilliamsKnights . I heartily agree that, even with as many data center years experience as I have, there just too many variables to definitively say "this disk". I have a 10yo consumer grade Netgear ReadyNAS with 2x4TB WD gold drives that are the ORIGINAL drives! They've survived not only a decade but also 4 moves. Now, I've taken really good care of the hardware but I attribute their longevity to both the drive type, the care they've received, but also...just plain old luck. All of which is to say that, at least as far as hardware goes, do your research, buy the gear designed for your use-case, take care of them and you'll get as much use out of it as you can. Cheers!
  3. Thanks @Theo - Really do appreciate your contributions!! Beers are on me next time I see you!
  4. Hi @Jamerperson - Three licenses would be needed to run three different servers. I do not know if there will be discounts for multiple purchases but there may be in the future, so stay tuned!
  5. Hi @stefanBaciu - It's generally best to search the forums to see if your questions have already been addressed. If not, you can reach out to one of the admins for additional assistance. Welcome!
  6. I legit thought that was some new kind of NIC!!! 😜
  7. @dgaskell Can you uninstall the Plex app, reboot and see what happens? Also, can you log into your router and see what IP address the router has assigned to you HexOS NAS?
  8. (Off topic reply but we just paid Siemens a metric ton of money to update our commercial HVAC. I started asking why it was so damn expensive and found out it's the custom automation and an UI representing our facility. Now I know who took our money!! 😆)
  9. Are you talking about getting another chassis? My current one only has 4 total drive bays.
  10. Oh boy...I swear I have NEVER done that!!! 😂
  11. Just got TailScale up and running and I am really impressed! None of the concepts were tough to figure out but I'm interested in hearing your use-cases and experiences. Where does it really shine? What sucked about that time you tried to do "x" and it failed miserably? I'm already thinking about using this at work...I see so much potential.
  12. Hi @dgaskell What happens when you go to 'deck.hexos.com
  13. The only thing I would change would have been to spring for the larger capacity drives. Currently at 4x8TB which is plenty for now but if I am going to cancel most of my streaming subscriptions my Linux iso collection is going to skyrocket quickly.
  14. Hi @EzekielJ - You would need to backup your data then copy to the new installation. When you perform a fresh install you HexOS will format your disks using the ZFS filesystem. This means that while the DATA on your disk can be moved/copied as needed, you cannot simply change OS/boot disks and go from there. I'd recommend spending some time reading through the forums and starting with out hardware FAQ as well as reading up on the ZFS filesystem. Welcome aboard and good luck!
  15. HA! Damn me and my assumptions. Good catch and thank you for clarifying!!
  16. Hi @SecularSam - I am running 4x8TB HDDs in my rig and so are many other people. I think the SSD recommendation is more for performance than anything else. Just make sure you are familiar with the other guidance talked about in the compatibility guide. Welcome aboard and good luck!
  17. Hi @MagnusMight - Not sure I understand your question; migrated from where to where? For instance, I have two licenses and can unclaim a license on one and apply to a different server if needed. Is that what you mean? Moving your license from one device to another? Welcome aboard!!
  18. @ubergeek That'd be great! If you're okay with sharing it and we can confirm/ver the steps, I hope you'd allow me to add it to out documentation guide(s).
  19. I just jumped and went with Plex - for two reasons. First, in order for me to use Jellyfin I would need to enable dev mode on my Samsung and do a bunch of hacky stuff. None of which were really THAT complicated but if I brick my TV I'd be more than pissed and out several grand. Second, Plex has a little sale going on for a lifetime pass for $95 so, I figured F it. Now the fun part begins of figuring out how to get the Plex server configured correctly for my devices. 😳
  20. Hi @pearson.lucas Do they behave as a single unit? Meaning, is there a single OS instance that runs both boards? And welcome!!
  21. Welcome @bojun!! Take a look at our compatibility guide located HERE. I just picked up THIS PUPPY specifically for HexOS and an upgrade to my 10yo Netgear NAS. I've not done much with it yet, but it's a solid build, quiet and priced competitively. Good luck!.
  22. @jpadgett Thanks for your feedback. I typically go DIY/FOSS but, am not opposed to paying for a service if the juice is worth the squeeze. Good stuff.
  23. Hi @Baker95 You'll need to disable UEFI mode and attempt to boot to Legacy Mode, so I'd opt for disabled and start there. Welcome!
  24. @Erik Andersen Did you ever try to get Jellyfin working with your Samsung? I found this GUIDE but before I post a new thread asking for feedback, thought I'd check in with you due to your last reply. Thanks!
  25. Damn. I mean...you gotta know when to hold'em and fold'em. But that doesn't mean you can't get a nice 7.1 wherever you end up post retirement, right?
