Deck will not connect to hexOS

Question

Posted

The deck shows my hexOS server as unavailable and won't connect. I can see the server is online, shares are up and running, and I can log into the trueNAS web ui directly.

I did have tailscale on at first, but I have turned that off and tried everything short of restarting hexOS.

@Insanittyx lets try something else. If you had a vpn active try again after turning it off.
if you didn't have a vpn active try connecting to hexos deck using a device on a different network like your phone (on cellular internet and not wifi)

I was troubleshooting and selected disconnect server, with the intent to reconnect. I just get this no license for new server every time. Its the same server, with the same name, same ip, no vpn use here, and nothing was changed other choosing disconnect. how do I fix this?

i had same issue

I was playing around with my Router (GL-Net-Slate). I enabled AdGuard Home and told it to handle client requests. ie be my DNS (I think)

So I think it was looking up Hexos' request and not finding an IP/ blocking its traffic.

I stopped handling client requests, and it works again now.

(not sure if it was related, but I also shifted my NGINX HTTP/HTTPS ports from 80/443 to 30021/30022 and changed the router's port forwarding)

I've been having this same issue off and on for months now but now it seems like a pretty constant thing. I havnt been able to log in for quite some time now so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same issue.

Though its only been an issue since I've updated my network to a unifi system and setup vlans/new IP aka going from 192.168.50.1 to 10.10.1.1 (and adding vlans from that)

Could this be causing the issue? And if so how do I resolve it? - For context I can see successfull flows out but not really seeing any connections to something obviously HexOS related

yes you would need to either go back to the 192.168 subnet or Vlan for the hex os port to run as 192.168 and make the ACL's to connect back to the 10.10

Having the same issue where this is a fresh install of HexOS, however https://deck.hexos.com/add-new-server/detecting cannot detect the server.

  • I can ping the server
  • I'm on the same network as the server
  • The server has internet access
  • The server has been rebooted like 20 times
  • mDNS is enabled on HexOS and the UniFi network
  • Tried both Brave and Chrome browser standard and incognito

Since it was a fresh install, I figured maybe the version was bad so I changed from v25.04 to v25.10 but to no avail...Idk what else to try other than just managing it from the TrueNAS console directly since I can access the web GUI directly just fine.

But to be clear, while it happens the most often to the most people it is not everyone and every time.  There is probably a little more to it but if this gets you up and running, double thumbs up.

Hello,

It seems the after the update some systems on reboot are reaching out to our server so it doesn't know your there. Try the following.

Login to TrueNAS interface.

Left side select "system".

Then after screen refreshes select "shell" from the list.

Paste in the following command. Can't use normal short cuts Will need to use Shift + Insert Key for pasting.

sudo python /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/middlewared/scripts/vendor_service.py

If that works within about 1 min you should be able to go to deck.hexos.com and see your server or claim it.

Hi there Mobius,

Apologies for the delayed response. That command appeared to work and is now showing up in the portal! :classic_biggrin: Thank you! Thank you!

This is very true. There are thousands of possibilities out there that can cause similar issues. To those out there with the same issue, if you try Mobius' "fix" and it doesn't work for you, don't blame the command as it could be any number of reasons causing the issue.

Especially since everyone's servers are different from hardware and BIOS to network/internet stack and settings. Since I am reusing an older Dell OptiPlex that work gave me during our last PC refresh, I have a second one that's exactly identical since we purchase these machines in bulk and will see if the same issue occurs and if the same command fixes it. Maybe I'll get lucky and it works right off the bat or maybe I'll have to send the command again. If the results are the same knowing the variables are the same then it COULD be hardware related. Only way to really tell is to wipe this machine and try again on a different network/internet provider.

I had the same issue where HEX Deck would not recognize my server (deck said it was offline) but TrueNas UI worked.  I realized it was my fault, I blocked it on my ubiquiti firewall accidentally when i was troubleshooting another issue.  That's why truenas works because the HEX OS Deck has to call to Eshtek's server and the truenas ui does not.  to answer another question in this forum, the local ui will mask this issue, not fix, because it will allow local connection, but wont change the fact that your server is blocked from external internet firewall level so connected to Eshtek wont work (only for this exact issue though). Another symptom of this exact issue was truenas did not have external internet access either, the app catalog was failing to update. Good luck to you guys hopefully this helps.
