Additional Apps We’ve just added Jellyfin, Home Assistant, and qBittorrent! And this is just the beginning, thanks to our new curation process, we expect many more apps to come online soon. Intro to App Curation We've added an interface to the HexOS frontend to make iterating on apps easier and to let the community contribute their own curations. By enabling Dev Mode in Preferences, you'll unlock the Custom Script option for app installs. From there, you can tweak existing install scripts or create new ones then share them with friends or submit them to the official HexOS curation templates. Right now, the feature focuses on streamlining the app install process. Soon we plan to surface installer questions directly in the UI and automate post-install steps (such as in-app setup wizards). That work depends on the in-development Local UI project, we will share more news about this in the future. We'd love your feedback as we refine this, let us know what's working well and where you're running into friction. Official Docs We've launched a documentation site! This new resource brings together everything you need to know about HexOS, including getting started guides, feature documentation, troubleshooting help, release notes, and community resources. Along with App Curation, we are opening the docsite up for community contributions. Learn about how to contribute here. - Docsite contributions - App Curation Folder Wizard Arrives We've extended our simple folder creation interface with a new wizard-driven process that unlocks specialized use cases like encrypted folders and Time Machine backups. With this foundation in place, we're now ready to move forward on bigger features including Snapshots, Replication, and Buddy Backup. First Flight Updates We've made improvements to First Flight, our onboarding experience, to help new users get up and running with HexOS more easily. Key improvements include: - Progress Tracking: When you complete tasks shown in the First Flight modal, it will pop up again to show you which tasks you've completed and what's still left to do - Persistent Banner: A banner now lives at the top of every page, keeping First Flight guidance accessible throughout HexOS This feature is designed to make the HexOS onboarding process a little more intuitive, especially for users new to home server management. --- NOTE: This update was applied automatically. @jonp here you can see what it looks like when a user tries to update the Immich app through HexOS when they haven't manually migrated to new folders. I am having the exact same issue since the Immich app in TrueNAS stopped supporting the old folder structure. See the attached screenshot for the error you get in TrueNAS when attempting to upgrade the app. When upgrading through TrueNAS it fails instantly, but HexOS is "in progress" for a very long time before giving up.4 points

I think there may be a few gremlins at play here and it's worth spending a little time investigating given the amount of feedback we see here.3 points

We've stated previously our intentions to skip past 25.04 entirely in favor of 25.10 when it drops. The Q3 update is for the Command Deck.2 points

Is this supposed to be the 2025 Q3 HexOS update, or is it just an update for Command Deck? If it's the latter, could we please get a little more clarity when we're teasing these drops? I thought today would be the day HexOS's support for TrueNAS-Scale 25.04-10 would drop. And I was so looking forward to messing with LXCs too...2 points

Team and I are reviewing it tomorrow a bit deeper. Thought we had this resolved for all but apparently not 😡2 points

Not mentioned in the update list but my drive warnings are gone with the Q3 update. Had them in HexOS since setting up the NAS while TrueNAS said everything is good and now they agree with each other. Yay!2 points

Could we get a forum section for install scripts? That way as a community we can post a thread for a specific app and people can share their scripts and ask for feedback? I think that'd be handy, but I don't think it needs to go in the normal Applications support forum because that might confuse people as it's definitely a more advanced thing at the moment! Thanks1 point

I had to remove immich completely and delete all it's old data. Then a fresh install via hexOS worked. Not too bad for me but not ideal if you have a larger library. Loving the update though!1 point

Loving the update, am looking now at install scripts and seeing about uninstalling my current applications and reinstalling with install scripts (This might take a while!). I like we can update apps now through the dashboard, that's awesome. I would love in future for a toggle-able option of Auto Update on certain apps, and then we can set a time period on when to do these, like how Watchtower works.1 point

Any update on the Immich issues?1 point

That was a interesting read. The app issues seem tricky and a little length. The power supply monitoring was great. This would be a great feature to be integrated. For quick setup, I use HealthChecks.io and it'll ping me on Telegram when something stops sending its pings. But for now, HealthChecks.io is free and easy (it will require going back into the TrueNAS UI for the cron job, though).1 point

This would be a pretty neat feature, especially for big ingresses, where I usually need to copy to NVMe pools → work / edit / build → export back to HDDs. Unraid does something similar with its cache pools & "mover", so there is precedent for something like this to be added to HexOS.1 point

Oh great, now we have multiple "official" sources of information. And just to be clear, the calendar third quarter is July 1st to September 30th. That's about twelve days. to Q4. Yeah I know Eshtek is well within their rights to create their own financial calendar that could put the end of Q3 in December like many large corporations. But until we hear differently, we are still in beta with no official release. Just for context I pulled the following definition of beta from google. "A beta refers to the stage in software development where a product is released to a select group of users for testing and feedback before its official launch. It allows developers to gather valuable insights, identify and fix bugs, and make improvements based on user experiences.". I am in the beta because I contributed my cash to the cause like most everyone else in the forums. And correct me if I am wrong but buying into a beta is pretty common, especially on windows or in the gaming world. If the beta needs more work we would just have to accept that but that goes both ways. Saying something coming in Q3 without establishing what Q3 mean and if that expectation is still true is as important and the user community accepting change without clubbing a company over the head with old estimates (if that company is honest and gives updated estimates). Can we establish where the official source is (and if you think you already have, you have completely underestimated a user community ability to wreck your perfectly good plan). And can we stop saying "we didn't promise anything" followed up by "we have already said that would be in the third quarter". Those are quotes take directly from the forum under the title VM & version 1.0. And even though this is a good example of the clubbing with old posts I said we shouldn't do, it is also a good example of this makes perfect sense to the poster but not the audience. Takeaways: User community stop using passive aggressive tactics to try to get your own personal additions unless specifically asked for like "What apps would you like to see next". Developers/moderators/leadership you are physically incapable of over communicating at this juncture of the project. And as I said above, if you think you already have, you have completely underestimated a user community ability to wreck your perfectly good plan. I am so excited about this application and it potential that I have told more that 100 people about it. While many are taking a more conservative approach and waiting for things like the announcement of the monthly price, I have a couple candidates for the buddy backup when it comes available. And as I have said before, this app is already a success for me. I just hope we can start tightening things up soon.1 point
