  2. I would like to see first party support for placing any app behind some of the most popular VPNs (PIA, Nord, Express, Proton, Tailscale, etc), as well as custom VPNs (WireGuard, OpenVPN, etc). For example, you may install “The Lounge” IRC client and have all internet communication pass through a PIA VPN so that your home IP is not exposed while chatting. Traditional methods of doing this involve painful configuration of iptables or other firewall rules. I believe this is an area where HexOS could really simplify things: Install a VPN plugin, authenticate with it, and then simply assign an app to a VPN plugin via the app’s settings if desired. It would be fully accessible from the home network without going through the VPN, but all internet traffic would go through the VPN with a kill switch in case the VPN goes down. Thoughts?

  3. Arguably as Plex is meant to be a One-Click app, i'm sure others will face the same issue. and having to go into the TNUI, doing CLI commands and changing the docker images won't work for the masses. So @jonp sharing for visibility, incase this is something the team need to look into for all Plex (And future jellyfin ) users, to ensure the correct hardware is set up and visible to the apps.

  5. Nice, yeah looks like you’re up and running. Blame Plex, the fact the detailed view isn’t default is stupid… 🫠

  6. @markrieder - You can create a torrent using Transmission. Just go to file and click new. Here is a guide but they worded it a bit differently: https://umatechnology.org/how-to-create-torrent-files-share-them-using-transmission/

  8. So its in the server > Network settings. You'll want to add your LAN ip address range to LAN Networks, Custom server access & List of IP Address. This will 100% make sure you're server is being found locally. Side note, when playing content on your end device, when viewing the server dashboard now playing on a computer, what does plex show? Take a screenshot of the player window Will show here >>> Lastly, as for your transcode settings. If you're viewing HDR content would recommend enabling tone mapping, also looks like you've got the plex pas, definitely enable Hardware acceleration as that will ensure it's using all of your hardwares recourse to avoid any issues if it 'Does' need to transcode anything. And as for disabling transcoding, this may cause issues as audio will transcode regardless if needed, but i believe with some subtitles it may require transcoding, so fyi for the future. If that all fails, the last thing to do is enable plex to the host network in the TN settings.

  9. Yeah commented on a few threads on the fact that some users may need to manually set their IP's in the plex settings. As i had to do the same on my remote server. I also just finally transferred my plex server from my Mac Mini > Hex server yesterday, and likewise had to Manually set the IP's in both the Plex server, and on the plex app. so far no issues at all on both servers with local content. @Dylan let us know if tis is potentially the issue, happy to help further if needed.

  10. This is a great video that should really help those new to DIY/used builds. A huge thank you to @ubergeek for taking his time to share his experience; hopefully this helps reduce costs, e-waste and frustrations while also growing our community, especially the new-to-home build folks!! 🤓

  13. I believe integrating Home Assistant with HexOS could be a game-changer for the operating system, offering functionality that is sorely lacking in almost all other OS platforms today. A Home Assistant integration would allow users to monitor and manage their NAS more effectively. Imagine being able to track critical metrics such as system uptime, array health, disk health checks, and the overall status of your storage systems — all from within Home Assistant. Furthermore, adding control features would significantly enhance the user experience. It would be fantastic if users could automate tasks like rebooting or stopping/starting applications, VMs, or containers directly through Home Assistant. Additionally, automating disk spin-downs during off-peak hours for power savings would be a powerful and eco-friendly feature. The potential of Home Assistant integration is vast, and it's difficult to fully capture all the possibilities in a single topic. However, the core idea is simple: having such an integration, with continuous updates and new features, would be a major advantage for HexOS. While most other operating systems either lack similar functionality or offer only basic, limited capabilities, HexOS could stand out by providing a more comprehensive, user-friendly, and flexible solution.

  15. for the boot drive you can get away with anything over 16gb but might be safer to go with 32gb+ i've been recommending jonsbo cases with the n4 being a pretty great value while looking pretty good too. if you care about things like subtitles i would suggest getting a used i5 8500t on ebay with a used motherboard.

  16. Hey there. I picked up THIS CHASSIS ($370) and 5x8TB ($800) and I'm at just over $1.1k because I bought that spare. If you only bought 2 drives and get the upgraded RAM you'd still be <$1k. Please note that I have only ordered this system and not used it yet - they haven't shipped yet, but I do like what I see. Hope that helps!

  17. Just a few things spring to mind that I’d love to see implemented at some point: - Jellyfin (my personal #1 most wanted) - Tailscale - Game servers (Minecraft, Valheim, etc.) - HomeAssistant would be super handy
