  1. Timing is perfect for this topic. I appreciate you all waiting until 2025 to bring this up. The road to 1.0 blog post was just a way to set our targets out there. We didn't communicate a specific timeline because we honestly had no idea how much to estimate we would sell at launch, which would directly in turn impact our ability to expand the team and impact our timelines. We just felt that, conservatively, we would do well enough to deliver the blog post roadmap in 2025....yeah....we had no idea what was about to happen ;-). Beat our expectations by about 5x. With the success we've had, we just onboarded three new people to the company in the past 30 days, with a goal of bringing on at least two more developers in 2025 as well and potentially a few other admin hires. This has completely thrown our previous "back of the napkin" roadmap out the window. Let's just say, we're not going to be talking about features just for 1.0 anymore. You guys have given us enough runway to plot out PAST 1.0. Give us a little more time to get our bearings as we onboard new staff, prepare new development environments, implement new systems, and role out our first software updates. More communication coming soon.

  2. Don't you worry! We have plans for you brave testers out there to keep you on a "beta" track that lets you test out the goodies as we're building them. Basically we will have feature-tagging so we can enroll certain users in new beta features for testing before they are ready for the stable track. When we get to that phase, more will be revealed 😉

  4. I know that Immich is already a Curated app, but for me, it has the big downside that Users have no e2ee and as an Admin of the Server ill be able to all Files/Photos/Videos a user has uploaded to the NAS. ENTE has e2ee and allows any file uploaded to be encrypted and not be readable by the Admin of the NAS - which is a huge selling point if I want to convince my Family and Friends to finally quit buying iCloud Storage and switch to a home hosted NAS solution. I would like to hear if the Community would be interested if ENTE gets a curated installation, and if the HEXos team maybe already has a plan to add it to the list.

  5. Hey all, similar to what TrueNas offers out of the box as the multi-user Time Machine option, I would like to see Time Machine Backup support for macOS devices. This could be a special type of folder for that special purpose only where settings are locked in and only user access permissions can be set as with any other folder. Hope to see this implemented at some point together with a quick tutorial on how to set up the backup in macOS with automatic drive connection on system start and so on. Would make the whole process of setting it up very easy for everyone. That feature would make HexOS a real alternative to the mac mini as a home server for "all-in on apple" people. Please feel free to ask for clarification and add your ideas!

  7. That should be totally fine!

  8. I would love for there to be a really clear layout as to what's happening/planned for the future and roughly when we can maybe expect it. I get that life's probably still a little crazy back there but it would be nice to just have a rough idea of when the features that im particularly looking forward to can be expected.

  9. I believe you need to select Follow topic underneath your post and you will get notifications. Also just found that you can Follow a whole Topic and choose the type of notifications you get.

  10. My opinion is that Reddit was great prior to the release, I was very active before, but now I’ve moved away from it. now it should more so be just for casual chat / topics / conversation. I don’t think it should be (long term) treated as the core support hub. Even now you’re seeing a lot of duplicate questions between the two locations. The Hub imo is what should be the core way for the community to communicate, document & get support. This tool needs a single source of truth, otherwise without it, the goal of this software being for the laymen starts to fall apart. I personally think discord is too niche and doesn’t help with what Hex is trying to do, and rather than consolidate information, it’ll just fragment it… But hey, I’m just some guy on the internet with an opinion 😅🤣

  11. What about IRC? 🤣 I'm the main mod of /r/HexOS btw, with @jonp and @RobotsNeverDie as the other mods 😊

  12. As on right now if you make a single drive pool using truenas ui as a workaround it breaks hexos. The devs are very much aware we really want this feature and support will come eventually.

  13. Integrated default reverse proxy for docker apps so all apps available on 443 inside home network. integrated DNS to support app name.internaldomain.com with reverse proxy (this puts all apps on 443) Lets encrypt SSL by default for all apps all user has to do is buy domain name and enter it above and all just works support for split horizon DNS consider running the DNS service for folks to allow tight integration (this shouldn't preclude use of other dns services) this is not me advocating for how to expose anything externally, that's not an argument i want to get into 😉

  14. Down the Road, it would be really awesome if we would get a curated installation for Paperless-NGX! https://docs.paperless-ngx.com/ Paperless is a really awesome Document Management System for all sorts of things. Paperless have lots of Small Features like full OCR and full in document text search. With a Duplex scanner, you can easly backup ALL of your paper documents and have them automatically sorted - a perfect companion for HexOS that aims to make digital backups a breeze! With a Curated and easy install, it could also help to backup analog paper 🙂

  15. With easy VM management on their roadmap, I could see that being a way things would work. I’d like to spin up a retro gaming VM that would work for some lightweight gaming.

  16. Many Canadian websites using .com don't specify if prices are CAD or USD, which is confusing. For example, https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/ list prices without specifying, while others (like LTTstore) use .com but clearly state USD. Since Hexos targets international customers, it's crucial they clearly state their currency (CAD or USD) next to prices. This builds trust, avoids confusion, and can boost sales by removing uncertainty for international buyers.. A simple currency symbol cannot suffice for the task since several countries use the same one (like canada, usa and australia).

  17. The user name for TrueNas log in is "truenas_admin", and the password is the one you used in nas setup

  18. obs running on the nas would mean that if the pc crashes the stream doesn't go down with it. though you would need to configure the main pc to stream to the nas and then have it restream to the desired endpoints. That would be the simplest thing though the least flexible. OR do the proper stream pc setup and add a video input card to the nas, and a bunch of other things like controlling obs, camera and mic input etc. And have the nas do all the compositing and mixing and then streaming it all.

  19. Love to have pi-hole as an app. I have a skill (bit like Linus) that just updating Ubuntu OS (which I run pi-hole on because it’s supported) randomly breaks the OS and often requires a full reinstall to recover. tad annoying so having this as a simple app install would save me time and fear of this random faults. /FAZ

  20. I know this is a request for a more 'One click' Hex TM integration, but incase people wanted to test this now, you can do this in Hex + TN today. (already had mine running a week without issue. TIME MACHINE INSTALL GUIDE Create a Folder & name it time machine (or a custom name) Set the Folder permissions (I left mine open, add user permissions here to restricted access) Navigate to the TrueNas UI (Server IP > Username: truenas_admin Pasword: server password from install) Navigate to the Shares tab, you should see your newly created share. Click on edit (pencil) On the Purpose drop down change to > Basic or multi user time machine. Press save/apply, and it'll prompt a restart of the SMB process. Go to your mac settings > general > Time machine. Click the + icon and locate your time machine share, then click setup disk. FYI if you aren't already connected to your Hex server, you'd need to do so now. Either search for the server in the network tab of finder OR connect to the server with finder > go > connect to server > SMB://[THE IP OF YOUR HEX SERVER] You can now choose to encrypt your backup with a password + if you choose, restrict the total disk usage the backup will have. You should now see your time machine backup setup. This will start automatically, but you can create a back up straight away if you choose. AUTO CONNECT SHARED DRIVE SETUP Now that could be it, but to ensure your Time machine backup will always occur, you need to ensure your Mac is always connected to your Hex server. to do this, we need to add the share to the login items Open Settings > general > Login items > click the + icon Locate your connected time machine share, then click open. You should now see the drive in the login items. That's it, you should be all setup and running.

  21. @jonp Agree on the contextual aspect. i had struggled with the Install of Immich due to the complexities, hence setup guides would have been amazing. FYI documented my issues & frustrations with that install process HERE Additionally, @Magnus couldn't help myself as a designer, here's a quick 2 minute mock up of how you might integrate the above discussion points into your existing UI. But obviously a lot more nuance and context to add for each app etc.

  22. It's arguments like these that just hit me right in the gut. Such a basic, but perfect argument. Ugh. I'll see what we can do. No promises and definitely not for 1.0.

  23. I can see this working by integrating a registrar API and preferably having a working relationship with them. Adding and supporting functionality like this probably only makes sense for Eshtek if they add their own margin for buying/renewing domains. Remote access is a must for any NAS that targets regular consumers. Competing NAS products like Synology use subdomains. So I see that as a bare minimum functionality but the functionality as described by @Scyto is exactly the kind of thing that would make Hexos stand out among the rest. In the end, I think the target audience is not people without technical knowledge as they will not buy seperate hardware and software anyway if cheap(ish) all-in-one options like Synology or QNAP exist. The target audience I think is people with enough technical knowledge to have higher demands but not enough to actually do it themselves or do but dont want to spend all the time and effort to do it manually when Hexos can (o rather should) do it automagically.
