  1. Having AMP (https://cubecoders.com/AMP) supported would allow users to get game servers up and running super fast and easy! I know my primary use cases for hexos is media streaming, image backups, and gaming servers. The first two are already covered with plex and immich. Just need a game server app for hexos and therefore recommend AMP!

  2. Hey there, so when istalling could we get an option to select our timezone and keyboard layout? this as cause me a mild infuriating time because well my keyboard is not a qwerty and because of the wrong time zone i could not install plex for the longest time continue the great work 😄

  5. If I had the time right now I would probably give a proxmox setup a fun go. Other than some virtual windows servers at the office that used to house our on-prem CRM I've never really played with virtual machines. Think it would be a fun change.. Just have wayyy too many projects I'm behind on atm. 😞

  6. Exactly, Hexos is just a simple NAS with a ZFS Raid in my setup, where everything will be stored at and which is going to do backups to different drives/servers. I will likely not use any of the fancy app or VMs features, I handle those things in VMs or opnsense directly.

  7. Hey, Looks like a proper built in my eyes, with a lot of potential to grow as you intend to do. Just some remarks; currently RaidZ2 is not supported by Hexos, Hexos will always create a RaidZ1. You can manually create a RaidZ2 pool in Truenas but this might have unforeseen impacts and consequences. You might want to consider buying a second boot drive and having the boot drives running as a mirror. This can save you a lot of headaches in case the boot drive fails, because right now, it's not possible to import pools into Hexos, meaning if the drive dies you cannot reinstall Hexos, because it will wipe your drives and even if pool import is supported in the future, it might still be worth the consideration, especially since you are already going full server build anyway.

  8. I had a look at a JMB582 based SATA expansion board today, this one fits into the 'WiFi' card slot. It worked pretty well, I had a 2-drive pool connected to it and was able to saturate the 1GbE NIC reading/writing through it.

  9. Depends on your motherboard, truenas is just software. My NAS uses just over 1kw a day, which is around £0.22 a day. I'll check at some point if my motherboard has wake on LAN, as it can probably go off most of the night.

  10. Oh, now all 8 slots are reported, so I guess they weren't dead after all.

  11. Your fine, thank you, but I wonder if changing the above to Static would of changed anything, prior to setting up a bridge, might have to try that next time I re-install hexos 🤣

  12. Hey, Yes they are all running natively in Ubuntu and Ubuntu is running alongside Hexos as a VM in proxmox. 🙂 I currently don't plan to switch to the Truenas docker and I suppose for most apps I'll likely still spin them up in the Ubuntu docker rather than using the Hexos Apps. This way I have more flexibility and can easily migrate them to another server if I want to in the future. If I would use the Truenas VM feature in the future, I would ditch proxmox entirely and have Hexos running as the OS, because then, just for my use case I would have Proxmox running with just the Hexos VM and have the other VM(s) in Hexos? Might as well get rid of Proxmox and do it the propper way. I might do this at some point in the future, depending on how those things are implemented but for the moment I'm fine with using Proxmox as the main OS.

  13. As the other person said it is not recommended to use usb drives. usb is not designed to be used this way. on your board your manual will say what usb ports go to what usb chip on your board. And usually they are 2-4 ports per chip. This can cause a lot of stability issues, it will cause drive IO delays. And don’t get me started on drive lettering for pools. best bet. Get an HBA card and shuck your external drives.

  14. i think if you use an external enclosure with multiple hdds only one will show up. But in general it is not recommended to use usb external storage feel free to read more hear https://forums.truenas.com/t/why-you-should-avoid-usb-attached-drives-for-data-pool-disks/1499

  15. I purchased Plex years ago and added it to my home server on an HP ML350 G9 with dual E5-2697A v4' and 192 gigs of memory and a Quadro P2000, I realized soon after this was over-kill and Plex over time is glitchy and is getting worse instead of better. Local streaming from my Nvidia Shield works perfectly, streaming from my Samsung OLED was great but over time it's getting sluggish so I find myself switching to the Shield, speaking of which, come on NVidia would it kill you guys to come out with a new one I mean come on now. I used to have a massive 11.4.3 (I believe that's how it was configured) home theater until a few years ago when our house flooded, I got pennies on the dollar to replace the irreplaceable so I downgraded to a pair of Klipsch "The Nines" which as far as sound goes will blow you away considering no subwoofers. Anyway, since no multi-channel anymore I am not pushing the envelope and now working towards retirement and selling the house, a massive surround sound system typically turns off women so with more room in the living room it should sell easier.

  16. I checked Plex and found THIS ARTICLE but I didn't really like the way they worded certain things. But also found THIS GUIDE that looked really promising. Note, I have not used any of these so use your own judgement and good luck!

  17. Yes, having one click installers for individual games is some what a wast of energy when can have actual managers and install game from there.
