Yes, this is confirmed. Its why we went through such pains to make a responsive design for the UI/UX 😉7 points

Would be wonderful, if there's a way to easily setup NAS as a cloud NAS, so i can hopefully access it from anywhere and replacing gdrive/onedrive that i'm currently use. Even though i'm tech enthusiast, often i can be lost when setting up NAS as personal cloud storage. Especially when my home (and many others) ISP doesn't offer public IP (multiple NAT). Hope you can adding this to the future development as soon as possible. Can't wait and very exciting.6 points

Some users are reporting that attempting to toggle dark mode isn't working for them. If you're using the controls in the top right of the forums, try using the theme switcher in the bottom left. We will address this in an update in the future.3 points

I second this! Would love native Tailscale support. I don't see why a partnership should mean it's off the table - they support Synlology and QNAP after all. Tailscale doesn't have to expressly partner with/support HexOS directly, just be compatible (which the Debian-based SCALE should be, from memory!)3 points

Feature Suggestion: UPS Integration for Automatic Shutdown Enable Hexos to natively support UPS devices for automatic safe shutdown during power outages. • Benefits: Prevent data loss, monitor power status, and improve reliability. • Implementation: Integrate protocols like apcupsd or NUT for broad UPS compatibility and allow configurable shutdown actions. Time to replace my 10yo 2x2TB (original WD's) NETGEAR ReadyNAS. Just bought the N100/16GB version of the Aoostar WTR Pro (haven't settled on which disks to use, yet) I really only use my NAS for storage and streaming. That little 2 bay netgear with an ARM quad-core 1.4GHz processor and 2GB RAM did everything I needed. Now, with this new hardware that comes with Win11, I need to settle into a new NAS OS and hoping HexOS can be that for me. Lifetime for $99? I'm in!2 points

GREAT QUESTIONS! Answers below: When future versions of TrueNAS are released, we will test them internally before we make them available via an update mechanism within our UI. Most updates should be able to be applied immediately, but in the event we find a reason to delay the update, notice will be provided to the community. As a more direct question, we think most OS updates will be doable within 1-2 weeks of their TrueNAS SCALE release. You can disconnect us from your server at any time and just use the TrueNAS UI if you want. However, the "install" is still a HexOS install at that point, pointing to our app repo. If you want, you can reinstall TrueNAS SCALE native on your boot device, reboot, import the storage pools we created under HexOS, and continue using TrueNAS natively from there. Yes. If you do things that are destructive, they will have destructive impact ;-). To be clear, there is no safety net when you're navigating in the TrueNAS UI. No bumper lanes there to stop you from shooting yourself in the foot, so the TrueNAS UI is "Swim at your own risk!". We are a replacement management interface for TrueNAS SCALE. The primary focus in the early beta is ease-of-use. Longer term, we will build a docker container that will side-load with the OS to add additional functionality not natively available or part of the out-of-the-box TrueNAS SCALE experience. Buddy backups is a great example of a feature that we are building that will leverage technology in TrueNAS (e.g. replication), but will wrap it in simplicity and marry it with a service that makes connecting to other users far more automated. The app repo that HexOS points to is a clone/fork of the app repo provided by TrueNAS themselves. This allows us to continue to build out our app library independent from them, but also allows us to incorporate anything they do with relative ease. There is no method to adding additional app repos within TrueNAS (nor HexOS), but we do intend to support loading something like Portainer (or another equivalent) for advanced users that want to add 3rd party containers. The command deck will be required for certain functionality. It will ALWAYS be required for initial system provisioning. The main reason is that the HexOS installer does not include our UI and it never will. Instead, the local UI will be loaded via a Docker container that we will install after initial system provisioning. Think of it similar to setting up an iPhone or Android device. You need the Internet + a Google/Apple account to get going, but then you can turn on airplane mode and do whatever you want. Same idea here. The latter (when you receive the early access invite). I updated the terms policy to reflect this as well as it wasn't clear.2 points

Nextcloud would be great to have. I’m looking for an alternative to Google Workspace and it seems like Nextcloud might be a good option.2 points

As you may have seen on the announcement bar, our mail provider hit a limit and we are working to get it expanded ASAP. Really sorry about this everyone!! Team is already pressing to get this resolved.2 points

HexOS is built on TrueNAS. It is its own operating system so doesn't run "on" Windows, MacOS, etc. You access via a web browser.2 points

Could you clarify what exactly "You can "disconnect" a server from HexOS " means? - Does the system need to be always online to be "connected" to the license server? What about offline usage? - What is the license tied to (HW id, serial number of some component....)? Or is dynamically checked against central licensing server? - How will the VM licensing work? I know you said it is not officially supported but you are selling to home labbers - what do you expect 😉 - Online preview/demo? You are asking quiet big money for a few screenshots and promises2 points

Lifetime licenses are issued per server. You can "disconnect" a server from HexOS and free up that license for use on another. If you want two systems for remote backup, you would need two licenses.2 points

Someone copy and pasted from an AI ;-). UPS support is definitely something we want to do, but will likely come after the 1.0 release.2 points

This would be great! Especially if it had proper exclusion and inclusion rules for what to and not to sync to cloud storage.2 points

Licenses are NOT tied to your physical hardware. Just migrate your storage devices to new electronics and get going. Great question though and will probably add it to the FAQ.2 points

Don't worry, I know this is like talking about the castle at the end of the journey before we even take our first step! I wanted to start this more as a discussion/casual poll of our most wanted apps, however, so that when it comes time to expanding, there's a list of ideas/feedback ready to go! I'll start - I really want Tailscale support, be it natively, or official-unnoficial testing of the FreeBSD compile (if HexOS is built on the FreeBSD CORE image and not on SCALE - but either way!) that works on OPNSense/pfSense, or even in collaboration with Tailscale themselves. I think FreeBSD really needs some love to bring it more seamlessly to FreeBSD platforms and this is a perfect place to start, and if it's SCALE based, then I guess just testing and validation to make that oh-so-ideal one-click app deployment seamless! Bonus entry; HomeAssistant support, but both ways. if HA can be set up ON HexOS, AWESOME! I think, though, that it would also kick butt if HA could connect to HexOS and get info from it; drive health, usage, CPU util/temp, stuff like that! Big thanks to the Hex team and really looking forward to using this system!1 point

Hi, today i bought the LT license and asked myself if there may be extended features for hosting gameservers like Minecraft, Left4Dead, Ragnarok Online and many more older games. I`d like to bask in nostalgia and try my best to "relive" better times 😆 So my question is: Is or will there be any kind of support/features explicit to hosting game servers. Best regards Clixxi1 point

Are there any plans to support mix and matching for drives in a pool? Similar to how Synology has SHR which basically means we can upgrade the pool over time.1 point

Hello, I'm contemplating buying a lifetime licence, but before that I have some questions Sorry if answers are already available elsewhere HexOS is currently based on TrueNAS Scale 24.10. When 25.04 and future versions are available, will we be able to update TrueNAS directly, or do we need to wait for HexOS to be updated first ? If so, how long do you expect before HexOS gets updated ? Can we just remove HexOS to revert to vanilla TrueNAS, or would that require a fresh install ? Can some settings be exported to that fresh install to not start from scratch ? You mention we can always use the TrueNAS UI instead of HexOS UI. Is there a risk that changing settings directly on TrueNAS breaks things in HexOS configuration, or vice versa ? At first, I thought HexOS would only be a new user friendly GUI on top of TrueNAS Scale, but it seems you also plan to add new features. I have no experience with TrueNAS Scale, so I find it hard to understand what exactly is new from HexOS. From your 1.0 roadmap for example, how much is new added features that were not possible on TrueNAS, and how much is improved UI/UX or ease of use ? You currently list two apps, Immich and Plex. Do we still have access to Official/Community Apps from TrueNAS ? Can there be a conflict between different sources for apps ? When available, will Local UI have feature parity with Command Deck to configure my local server, or will some settings still require to use the online version ? Any and all purchases are subject to a 30-day refund policy. Do the 30-day timer start at time of purchase, or when we receive our early access invite ? Thanks1 point

Maybe this question will be answered tomorrow with the download. But will the lifetime licence be limited / locked to only one hardware system. I.e if I want a remote back up I control, can the same licence be used, or would this constitute a ‘new’ lifetime licence?1 point

It would be great to have an integration into home assistant to monitor our NAS + have automation abilities based on the data. is this something already in the works in-house? Or will we need to wait for a community integration?1 point

This and/or integration for AMP by Cube Coders. I have been using this on Windows but having that integrated would be totally sweet.1 point

Updated our terms page to be more clear: Hardware Transfers HexOS licenses enable users to claim servers for management. A claimed server deducts an available license from your account. If you wish to move your license to a new server, you must first disconnect the server from HexOS, which will return the availability of the license for claiming purposes.1 point

I am also looking forward to have HexOS incorporated into my home lab as an easy storage manager. I think most of us want an easier management interface and installation platform. Home labs should be fun, useful and not a burden of time.1 point

You may be better off checking Facebook marketplace or something for an older used pc to test/play around with. But this is just a guess. As it’s in beta so having it hosted elsewhere may or may not cause further issues.1 point

One might ask why? Because it would might migrating from other system as simple as just adding in the drives from the old system and allowing a person to copy all the data off at sata/sas/nvme speed, and onto new drives in a new system whether they be internal or on an HBA with an external enclosure. Why would anyone do this you ask? Maybe their old hardware has failed but the drives are still good. It would be super handy for getting old data back again and/or faster migration off old hardware and able to reuse old drives1 point

Tailscale is available on TrueNAS, so it may also be available from HexOS. However, if HexOS doesn't build it in, you should still be able to access the TrueNAS platform, although it might take a bit of work.1 point

Correct. Lifetime licenses mean lifetime. There are certain features that come at an increased cost to deliver on a recurring basis such as premium support services, cloud backup, or other similar services. Those would be sold a la carte. In the future, we will offer a subscription for HexOS itself which will be at a lower price point. Lifetime licenses will always be available.1 point

Just quoting this from their website, but it seems like you will be able to purchase a lifetime license at an increased price later.1 point
