    Kernel?

Hi there and thanks for the questions! Long story short, we are not fundamentally changing the base of TrueNAS at this time which means that we are not offering a newer kernel version or different VM capabilities. With VMs in particular, can you walk me through what you are trying to do that isn’t currently possible with TrueNAS?
  2. I’ll try to get a screen shot / record a demo for you guys this week. No promises as we have a pretty packed week planned right now, but if I can squeeze in a pull preview test, I’ll screen grab it for you.
  3. I’m confused. He was asking for kernel swap for hardware support. I would think that means drivers. Maybe I’m misunderstanding?
  4. Forgive the ignorance but what about this hardware isn’t supported? NIC? Storage controller? Something else?
  5. In case there is any confusion still on this topic, a local UI is coming...100%. We actually have already begun work (we have a docker container with the UI running at this point, but it's not fully functional yet).
  6. As Magnus mentioned above, this is a key area for him. It does take time for us to get all of the accessibility features right, but this isn't an area we intend to ignore. Accessibility is important to us.
  7. What specific hardware are you referring to?
  8. The YouTube video goes deep in how space gets allocated, but to be perfectly honest, it's probably still going to be a little difficult for non-storage developers to easily decipher. We'll post another blog in the future with more details on the methods used and how space gets calculated. For now, we just wanted to let people know that this is coming, a basic example of how it differs from the traditional way, and why we sponsored it.
  9. FYI, blog post on the subject is now up: https://hexos.com/blog/introducing-zfs-anyraid-sponsored-by-eshtek

    OS Updates

Right, we're not filtering out the messages from TrueNAS yet, so those update notifications are coming from that, not us. Safe to ignore for now. We will have OS updates in the near future with the new Activity card we are adding in the Q2 update.
  11. Blog post: https://hexos.com/blog/introducing-zfs-anyraid-sponsored-by-eshtek For those that missed it yesterday, AnyRaid was announced on the ZFS Leadership call. This Eshtek-sponsored feature will bring mixed size drive support to OpenZFS. We will be posting a blog about this in more detail soon! Edit: Here's a link to the YouTube video from the ZFS Leadership call. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MifloJFCpLU
  12. I don't see anything wrong 😉
  13. Later this year. We're still in beta for now and for good reason. You're going to see a LOT of changes in Q3/Q4.
  14. New blog post talking Q2 update details and the ZFS leadership call tonight. https://hexos.com/blog/status-update-amp-zfs-leadership-call-tonight
  15. No, but if you’re a military service member, send me a dm.
  16. Helping is an understatement. Seriously. You guys are accelerating timetables for us on some of this stuff. Keep it up!
  17. We did highlight a bit of what's coming in Q3 and we're doing more Q4 planning soon as well. Honestly I desperately need to hire someone to help with marketing/community management this year. I've been avoiding pulling the trigger to keep all capital towards development, but comms are getting away from me and I can feel it in these posts here. We owe it to you guys to be better. Will have to have a conversation with our CFO about this...
  18. I totally hear you, but please don't see any of those guides as wasted efforts! They accelerate our ability to bug fix, troubleshoot, and improve things. Please know that we read a lot more here than we write here because you guys are just generating valuable content at a breathtaking pace and this forum is a great place for us to mine for data on how various apps and services should work based on your direct experiences with TrueNAS. Case in point, I've been linking the TimeMachine guide to our team to review as they prepare for that feature to make its way to HexOS natively. Other guides will be valuable time-savers for the dev team as well. You guys are just ahead of us on where we're working in the project right now.
  19. Definitely. Still targeting 1.0 for this year.
  20. Hey guys. Apologies for the lack of comms on our side. We've been very heads down and focused on the Q2 update and planning for our first team offsite meeting in June. I'm working on a blog post for this week with more information and planning a regular schedule to provide updates more consistently. Regarding the pace of progress, something to keep in mind. We built Eshtek on a bootstrapped budget to avoid the temptation of taking big VC money and forced to race for an exit. That's how products become enshittified as we've seen with so many over the years. We were very deliberate and intentional in our partnerships and investors. We're in this for the long haul. But doing this still comes at a cost. Yes our Black Friday launch was wildly more successful than we could have hoped, but an influx of cash has a delayed effect to benefitting productivity within a business. Once you get it, you have to make sure it stays (refunds) and you have to be smart about how you spend it (services, tools, people, etc.). Then it takes time to make all of those things work well for you. If we would have taken a couple million back in 2022 when we incorporated, we'd already be at 1.0, but we'd also not have as much control over the business and our vision. I don't blame anyone for their comments. HexOS is very light right now. Apps are badly needed to improve. Fully agreed. We released it when we did to prove the concept and that we have the chops to build this thing. It gave us more than enough capital to get there and we immediately reinvested that extra capital to not only expand our team faster than planned, but to expand our roadmap in ways we haven't even publicly disclosed yet. I guess this is a long way of asking you all to have faith and I will do better at providing more frequent updates and not leaving you in the dark for so long. Thank you.
  21. As an FYI, if you update via the TrueNAS UI, please stick to the 24.10.x track at this time. We are not ready for 25.04 yet, although I would imagine for most everything would work just fine.
  22. Yes. It's a Q3 roadmap item for us.
  23. Yup, we haven’t built in support for single disks yet. It’s coming!
