  1. Does the 14" mainboard have a way to expose PCIe lanes so that one could plug in a commonly available HBA and be able to run multiple drives? Maybe via a USBC adapter of some sort?
  2. The one trick UnRAID has that HexOS doesn't is the ability to use mismatched drives. HexOS has to have drives that are close in size or you loose out on capacity in a big way. For example, say you have a pool with 5 SSDs. 4 are 120GB, and one is 110GB. HexOS would only be able to utilize 100GB of the larger drives, since all drives in a ZFS pool need to be the same size. The same would be true with HDDs. A single smaller drive will limit the space of the whole pool. (And that's why in the previous example ALL of the drives have to be swapped out when "upgrading" before the pool expands)
  3. This is actually a super exciting topic! Pool expansion is working RIGHT NOW! I tested it the other day when I did a fresh install. I started with 3 drives during initial setup, and added two more once the server was up and going, which expanded my pool capacity! Another neat trick that ZFS (HexOS' and TrueNAS' filesystem) has is the abiliity to "upgrade" a pool. For example, if you were to take a RAIDz1 pool with 8x 10TB drives (70TB usable) and sequentially swap those drives out for 20TB units, then when you are done the available pool size will jump up to 140TB!
  4. Pool and whole server migration/adoption is something that is not supported right now, but that the team will be looking into in the future. They haven't promised the features though to my knowledge. I expect pool adoption should be possible reasonably easily, server adoption though might be tougher. Either way those features are not likely to be included before 1.0 I'm not on the dev team though so don't take my thoughts as gospel truth. I'm just making a decently informed guess based on what I know of how TrueNAS and HexOS work lol
  5. Should be. I can't see any reason SAS wouldn't be supported.
  6. The lifetime license is a permanent license for the full OS, and it includes the opportunity to participate in the early access beta to test the OS while it is being developed.
  7. Hi bud, I know JonP has mentioned that there are some parts of HexOS that are/will be open source, but I don't believe the whole project will be. As for bug and feature request tracking, I think having a bit more structured of a platform may be a good idea. I don't know if the team has a ticket system yet, but I'm sure that will come with time as the team grows and the project progresses. Over the last few days we have had a HUGE influx of users, and I sense that it may be becoming a lot to keep tabs on all of the thoughts, suggestions, and comments that have been made, so this is a good idea at it's core, even if the details might not end up exactly how you are imagining 😊 P.S. I removed the duplicate thread you posted in the other sub forum. I think it makes the most sense in this one.
  8. Confirmed. I'm seeing this occur if the page is being rendered at more than ~1100px wide
  9. Hi gents. We're working on this. Thanks for your reports! Elio, in regard to your post needing approval, I think that may have to do with forum roles and how new a user's account is. In this case I have deleted the post since it's a duplicate.
  10. Are you imagining that this would work kind of like a difficulty setting in a game? As in your would set your proficiency level when you first installed the app, and that would modulate the level of features available and the amount of hand holding that the UI would do?
  11. The site is getting the hug of death due to the LTT video dropping 😅
  12. For now you do have to start fresh. Jon has said that it might, MAYBE, be possible to convert existing TrueNAS SCALE installs in the future, but not any time soon, and certainly not before 1.0.
  13. Agreed. The ability to Show/Hide apps would be a nice quality of life feature. I'm imaging not just hiding the non-curated apps, but also being able to hide curated apps that are not installed, or those that are running or not. Hiding the not installed apps will be more useful once there are dozens of curated apps of course.
  14. There are a few communication apps I'm interested in hosting. I imagine that apps like these would be a docker container or similar, so not terribly related to the main thrust of the development, but still important to consider. Teamspeak3 is top of the list. I am also really curious about hosting IRC. I would love to go back to the old days of internet chat, back when MSN Messenger was King. The world was a simpler place back then... Does anyone here have experience hosting an IRC server? I think it could be a fun and useful alternative to having group chats on places like FB messenger.
  15. I am also very interested in game server support. I suspect many games would need to be ran in a VM, but that's beside the point titles of interest for me would include HALO Combat Evolved, BF3, ARMA II and ARMA III, DayZ standalone, TF2, classics like Quake and Unreal Tournament, Subnautica (Nitrox multiplayer mod), Starwars Battlefront II...
  16. There's also the 30 day refund policy option. Buy now at the super discounted price, and if it doesn't seem like its for you then you can always refund it!
  17. Purchasing a license (or two or three) will just put them on your account. It doesn't matter if you have a machine to install HexOS on yet or not! 🙃
  18. Its an ISO you flash to a USB just like most other things. ...or if you're a turbo nerd like me and have old supermicro boards with IPMI you can mount the iso virtually from the KVM software LOL
  19. This is a really great question! @Jon have you considered adding the ability to gift licenses to other users?
  20. Hi guys, I noticed a couple times tonight that tags on posts are very hard to read while in dark mode due to their dark color and thin font. Edit: This also applies to the "author" badge on posts
  21. Currently we are locked into a RAIDz1 pool setup, but more levels of parity will be available later on, as well as the ability to add additional drives to expand a pool. I am told we will also be able to upgrade pools by replacing individual drives with larger units one at a time until all drives in the pool are the new capacity, at which point the pool size will expand all at once. EG: If you were to take a RAIDz1 pool with 8x 10TB drives (70TB usable) and sequentially swap those drives out for 20TB units, then when you are done the available pool size will jump up to 140TB

    Netgear NAS

Hmm... That particular NAS seems to be designed/intended to only work with Netgear's OS. I'm sure it's possible with some serious hackery and wizardry, but after looking at the unit and the manual I don't think it would be an easy process. I also found a post on IX systems TrueNAS forum where a user was asking about installing TrueNAS on a similar Netgear unit, and the consensus was that it was not a good/easy idea, due to the unit being designed for their proprietary OS all the way down to the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System. What a PC, or NAS, boots from) https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/questions-install-possible-on-readynas-rn31400.46612/
  23. HexOS is a fully capable server OS on the back end, with all the difficult technical knowledge requirements that entails. The difference is that the front end is smoothed and curated for ease of use by those of us that aren't willing to devote weeks and months of our lives Its main focus is as a file storage server, but it can also host many interesting things such as local media servers (build your own netflix, spotify, etc), or game servers (minecraft, etc, etc), Voice communication servers like Teamspeak... the list goes on. Basically, its a platform to host and back up your files, AND host other apps if you want to.
  24. I am also VERY interested in having Tailscale available as a curated app!
  25. Interesting... I'll look into it!
