your boot drive is not too small in fact i would say its still too big 😂 hexos/truenas fits on a 16gb ssd, anything larger than that is a waste of space lol. The extra space is locked away and cannot be used for any purpose boot drive should be mirrored for safety which is slightly different from raid. A mirror has the exact same data on more than 1 drive. easiest way to swap boot drives is to make a clone of it with something like clonezilla. But again your boot drive is more than big enough

I'm pretty sure this is incorrect please refer to this thread on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeServer/comments/18znvaa/ryzen_cpus_support_ecc_memory/ yup it is, you can refer to pcpartpicker and use it's ecc toggle to narrow down ecc compatible gear but you will more than likely have to find the motherboard 2nd hand as with everything its a cost vs safety preference on your end. Its kinda like asking do i need raid 6 or is raid 5 good enough. I might think raid 5 is good enough but you might think raid 6 is a must for safety. However for more in depth info to help you decide if you need ecc feel free to refer to this following post. https://www.reddit.com/r/truenas/comments/10sr1zv/comment/j7394el/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I personally think ecc isn't the biggest deal for homelabs. Easiest way to get ecc support is with modern ryzen. (I forget if older ryzen supports it)

i want simple. is this the OS for me? plex/immich/vm/smb
Mobius replied to ncc74656's question in OS & Features
i can't say for certain if hexos will have issues or not after large os updates as he haven't had one of those yet. All. the updates so far has been sever side. We are still in beta so bugs are to be expected. However at least for a plex machine there shouldn't be much issue. -
Welcome Happy to see you were able to figure out how to solve your problem. For media server i personally use jellyfin. pros its free less fluff Cons compared to plex less clients available no playstation app kinda annoying to get working on tizen (samsung tv) best way to watch on apple tv is using a paid 3rd party app (its what i use and i love it) streaming videos outside of network is not as easy

This is the goal, we aren't fully there yet. At this time we can only do this with Plex and immich but there are plans to rapidly increase the amount of apps this works with. At this time eshtek does not offer that. I think in a ltt video it was mentioned that such a service MIGHT be offered as part of a future subscription offering but there is no news on that yet. However a lot of is in this community try to help solve issues other users have in these forums. If there are problems the community can't help solve the hexos team does look into it. At this time outside of Plex and immich most everything has to be done in the underlying truenas ui but i imagine as hexos matures it'll be less and less reliant on getting things done in the truenas ui. -
Sounds like a generous and solid plan. I had the same thoughts back then too. Thankfully i caved and bought 2 licenses.

Accidentally changed the title, please ignore it. I have not seen anyone mention using that but i think people have gotten truenas to work on the similarly priced and i think slightly stronger UGREEN NASync DXP4800 I would have suggested an Aoostar machine as a lot of users had good luck with them and they cost less but if you are located in the united states its no longer a price competitive option because tarrifs.

At this time there isn't such a place. i know a lot of users do want such a thing

I don't think what you want is possible in a single chassis. One of the only half depth chassis i can think of is the Sliger CX3701. (by half depth i am assuming you mean 15" or shorter" It's 3u, can fit a mITX motherboard only and has 10 bays of storage. Every mITX mobo i can find only has one pcie slot. But even then i don't think you can find an elegant way to get enough sata ports with a mITX mobo to 10 internal drives and 14 more external drives even with hbas since i don't think broadcom makes a 16e8i hba. The only way i can think of is getting a 24 internal hba and have 14 go outside the case and 8 stay inside and use 2 mobo sata. things do change a little bit if you have space for 18" depth. The Sliger CX3702 can support mATX mobo and some of those do have multiple pcie slots letting you use 2 different hba cards. That said i still can't think of any external enclosures that'll fit the extra drives. Without depth as a factor, so used super micro stuff might work for you? TLDR: i can't think of any good options for half depth.

Should be 6.6.44

a lot of time the install errors can be fixed by remaking the installer usb. Also make sure you have secure boot disabled.

feature-request An easy way to pull data from another NAS

i'm thinking something similar to our smb instructions would be nice. Just a few links with write ups on how to setup rsync on different platforms. -

@mill3000 simplifying this would definitely be a great boon for HexOS -

Safe to Use TrueNAS UI for Settings Not in HexOS?
Mobius replied to numbers's question in OS & Features
welcome to hexos At this time the only other thing to keep in mind is that you should NOT update the underlying truenas operating system. Some functions might work and others might not however the HexOS team regards that as an unsupported use case. As far as i know there have not been any reports of docker apps breaking hexos so you should be good. -

Import/Migrate ZFS raidz-1 pools from Unraid
Mobius replied to Hexblue's topic in Roadmap & Feature Requests
Support will likely come no earlier than q3. Here is a link to the most up to date roadmap https://hexos.com/blog/hexos-q1-status-update Theoretically you MIGHT be able to migrate to hexos using work arounds but i can't guarantee it'll work. Personally i would still recommend waiting unless there is a reason you need to stop using unraid sooner. -
@mill3000 can you take a look into this
-
app updates are fine however os updates will be done via hexos itself
-
just to double check you aren't using the password for the hexos website but rather the one from the installer right?
-
at this time plex and immich are still the only 2 apps with one click installs. The team is working on making it so the community and create one click installs for apps so once that comes out i imagine the amount of one click apps will skyrocket. as for apps that can be manually installed i would just google for list of docker apps. (there are a lot)

fingers crossed it works out for you. -
I imagine a lot of members here would appreciate the guide.

I can ask the team whenever the next time I have a meeting with them if i remember but i don't meet with them often and it might not have been discussed yet.
