  1. The BC-250 is the apu used in the PS5. I have seen Reddit Posts of people who are running Linux on a BC-250, but not without issues. It is experimental. Do you already own a BC250? In that case, Lets give it a try. If you have to buy one, perhaps there are better options.
  2. @EviTRea, I support this. It's a pretty common use case. Migrating to HexOs should be as simple as using HexOs.
  3. There will be a PoE version in the future (according to the FAQ on Kickstarter)
  4. You are right, in Truenas
  5. There is no HexOs update available yet. There was only an update of deck.hexos.com. I think the Plex update won’t hurt, but don’t install the TrueNas update. It’s not recommended and it will break HexOs.
  6. I think you might be mixing up a few things here. As we say, you’re comparing apples to pears 😊. This is mostly a matter of form factor. Technically, you can build a NAS out of a laptop, but it’s far from ideal—especially since you’d likely end up using external hard drives via USB. HexOS and TrueNAS require drives to report their individual serial numbers, but many cheap USB enclosures skip that and just report a generic serial for all connected drives. That causes issues with drive detection and undermines data integrity. In your case, the hardware is also quite old and doesn’t meet the minimum requirements. That said, this doesn’t mean HexOS isn’t suitable. On the contrary, it’s very easy to use—just keep in mind it’s still in beta. But if you’re considering buying something like a UGREEN NAS, there are other NAS form factor devices that might be more interesting. For example: https://aoostar.com/collections/nas-series https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lincplus/redefining-nas-style-power-and-usability-with-lincplus These devices let you choose your own OS, whether it’s HexOS, TrueNAS, or Unraid. Another option is buying a NAS from UGREEN, QNAP, ASUSTOR, or TerraMaster (but not Synology). You can use the default OS or install something custom like HexOS or TrueNAS, if the hardware is supported. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmFb_kO5V3Q So, in short: there are lots of options. Could you tell us what you plan to use the NAS for? That might help us give you more targeted suggestions.
  7. U.S. backers can make a $1 pledge. Update JetKVM on Kickstarter: New U.S. backers A few weeks ago, we effectively disabled new U.S. rewards due to the tariff uncertainty. Instead, we added a $1 “reservation” reward so U.S. backers can hold a spot in the queue once things stabilize. We really hope we'll have some tariff stability in the coming weeks, but it's currently too risky for us to accept new U.S. backers with rapid tariffs changes in the last weeks.
  8. I don’t think this will work. I don’t say it’s impossible, but I see a lot of challenges. To much if you ask me. A 15 year Old Macbook with not enough RAM and you need external HDDs which is not recommended. Leave them in the drawer or bring them to the museum.
  9. Nice transition. Looks as a future proof setup! And a pretty clean setup too.
  10. There will also a PoE version. FAQ on Kickstarter (24th of October 2024): While there won’t be a Power over Ethernet version just yet, a PoE-compatible JetKVM device is on our roadmap.
  11. Thank you for this guide! @Dylan, can we add this one to the guides page?
  12. Nice!, glad you have found the solution. I had a same kind of error with Proxmox and it took me several hours to solve the issue. Always nerve breaking 😀

    Can it replace DSM?

The thing is, DSM really holds up well in terms of functionality, stability, and ease of use. When it comes to hardware, Synology is lagging behind, and it’s clearly moving toward a more closed ecosystem. But no other player has quite managed to match Synology’s level when it comes to software. TrueNAS and Unraid are both very solid, but neither is as user-friendly as DSM. HexOS is still in beta, and even after the 1.0 release, it will take time before it reaches feature parity with DSM. This video mentions a few alternatives, but if QNAP is off the table for you, things start getting tricky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSkO1bdXLyg Ultimately, what you should do really depends on how much effort you're willing to put into switching systems. If you’re not up for that, there’s nothing wrong with paying the "Synology tax" and accepting that you're tied to Synology drives. In return, you get a DSM system that’ll likely serve you well for years. I’ve had a Synology running in my network for over 15 years, and it just does what it’s supposed to. My most important data still lives on it. Let me be clear: I’m definitely not happy with their recent direction. I think they’ve abandoned part of their user base with flimsy arguments—no 10GbE, Synology-only drives, EOL hardware. That criticism is everywhere on YouTube right now. But on the flip side, no one’s forcing you to buy Synology. If you want the DSM appliance experience and you're okay with Synology’s quirks, it can still be a solid choice. Personally, I’m very disappointed with Synology’s 2025 releases. I was hoping for a lot more. But if I’m being honest, I wouldn’t rule out buying another Synology in the future. That would be strictly for NAS and backup functionality. I haven’t used DSM for anything else in a long time. I’m really into the vision behind HexOS. It’s a super promising project. But for now, it’s still a system in development, and it’s not yet a replacement for DSM when it comes to storing my most critical data. At the end of the day, it’s about figuring out what matters most to you. In short: make your own call.
  14. Did you already did a reboot via the TrueNas interface. I have seen another forum post with describing the same issue. A simple reboot fixed this issue. If not, you can try the steps @Mobius recommend.
  15. Do you have another OS in dual boot on this server? If so, perhaps this Reddit thread can help you in the right direction: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/comments/vf3fdw/no_shim_lock_protocol_load_kernel_first_error/
  16. You have to disable secure boot in the BIOS. I think that will solve your problem.
  17. Check, you are right. The splitter is the problem. Bad luck 😕
  18. You can test this by connecting the USB-C power directly to the JetKVM (without splitter). I just did a quick test. With USB-C power directly conneted to my JetKVM the device turns on.
  19. @PsychoWards, perhaps a stupid thought. Did you put the USB-C power plug in the right part of the splitter? On my splitter you see to different marks. One for power and one for data.
  20. Did you run the latest update. Perhaps that’s make a difference.
  21. I did also some tests. usb-c to usb-c cable with a Apple usb-c power supply works in my setup.
  22. Which Power On/Off accessory are you looking for? Is it the DC Extension? --> It will not only control the power supply to another computer, but also supplies the JetKVM with 5V through the RJ 11 cable.
  23. GL.inet Comet looks also interesting. Especially this specs: 2K@60FPS video with H.264 hardware encoding for smooth performance Ultra-low latency (30ms-60ms) for real-time remote control And almost the same pricepoint
  24. I thought the same. I also have a BliKVM V4, which cost me more then 200 euro’s. It does the job, but very unpolished compared to the JetKVM.
  25. And ServerTheHome, quote: Synology Lost the Plot with Hard Drive Locking Move https://www.servethehome.com/synology-lost-the-plot-with-hard-drive-locking-move/ It's really a pitty, but it seems Synology don't want to have consumers as customers
