  1. This is well thought approach. One thing to keep in mind. HexOs only supports one pool at the moment. In the future it will support multiple pools. It’s still on the roadmap.
  2. @Dylan, Robbie is also reading your questions on the HexOs forum 🙂🙃 This is published tonight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMCHZVsAKdo
  3. BTW, Robbie from Nascompares announced that he will visit AOOSTAR in October 2025.
  4. Let the reviews enter the room 😀. I think the WTR Max, the Zima Cube and the N5 (pro) are only the beginning of series of new NAS / SFF server innovations. I expect to see a lot of new concepts in 2025 / 2026.
  5. See: https://nascompares.com/2025/02/21/updated-fake-used-seagate-ironwolf-hdds-now-reported-how-to-check-your-drives/ for more background info
  6. This is not really a HexOs issue, It's the lack of good Realtek drivers for Linux based systems.
  7. Review Nascompares: https://nascompares.com/2025/05/16/zimaboard-2-review/
  8. Did you also spot some interesting new hardware?
  9. excellent platform to try a lot of things. 2,5 gbe NIC's is a really nice upgrade. Also nice to experiment with 3d printed cases
  10. What do you plan on using 120TB for?
  11. Mainly as a power efficient NAS to store files, pictures and movies. I will run HexOs as Proxmox VM with NVME passtrough. I also run Proxmox Datacenter Manager in a LXC container. My Lincstation N1 will be my Proxmox Backup server. I use spinning rust only as offline storage and as backup target. The spinning rust is activated only when needed using Cron jobs (shutdown) and Wake-on-LAN. The Lincstation N2 (and also my N1) uses only 6 to 9 watts in idle.
  12. I almost forget Minisforum MS-A2. Also a lot of performance in a small box.
  13. I am waiting for indepth reviews of the Minisforum N5 (pro) and WTR Max. Both are interesting devices. I am also reading a lot about oculink NVME boxes. This is a link to the one from Aoostar, but also other brands have them on the roadmap. https://aoostar.com/products/aoostar-tb4s-oc-usb4-oculink-4-slot-m-2-nvme-ssd-enclosurepcle3-0-x-1-single-slot-up-to-800mb-s-support-thunderbolt-4?variant=50145471889706
  14. 120+ TB is a lot 😀. I will start with 4 x 4 TB in raidz1. I will reveive my brand new Lincstation N2 next week and I am looking forward to have 10 TB net storage. 10 TB fast SSD storage and a 10 gbe NIC will bring my HexOs NAS to the next level.
  15. I'm in the same boat. Active Backup for Business and Active Backup for M365 are a key part of my backup strategy. All the other apps I used to run on my Synology are now running on a different platform. The problem is that these backup apps are just very solid on Synology, and I haven’t found any good alternatives yet.
  16. Terramaster hardware is designed to be used as a 24/7 NAS. A solid setup to start using HexOs. welcome!
  17. Via deck.hexos.com you can go to settings and then go to reset. There is an option to disconnect the server. But at the moment there is no option in HexOs to reconnect your server. I am not sure, but I think that importing an existing pool in HexOs is on the roadmap. So the disclaimer is: you can disconnect but not reconnect your HexOs server. Probably there will be an option to reconnect a Truenas server to HexOs, but it's not sure this feature will be delivered soon.
  18. To be honest, I am pretty possitive about the current state of the HexOs beta. And yes, I also like to see more updates from the HexOs team. It's a journey and I think it's much better as a beta user to be part of that journey. If you hear nothing, you will set your own expectations on timelines and features. Disappointment if often the result of the lack of communication. But back to the beta. I have two HexOs systems. For one system I follow the recommendations pretty strickt, only one pool, no updates via Truenas, only use Immich and Plex, ... This system is running pretty solid for months now. My other system is my HexOs test system and it breaks once and a while. Mostly because I tried all kind of things in Truenas. But if I try the update functionality in TrueNas and it breaks HexOs, then it is an expected faillure. I expect a HexOs update based on TrueNas 25.04 in Q2. TrueNas 25.04 is released in April. So I think is reasonable to expect that the HexOs team needs some time to build and test HexOs on top of this stable version. See quote HexOs Q1 status update: Rescheduling VM Support Similar to what happened with Docker, iXsystems is in the process of migrating TrueNAS SCALE to a new VM and Linux Container management environment in their next major release, 25.04. Incus promises to provide a few key feature improvements, including a better web-based VNC agent. As such, focusing on VM management features in the short term didn’t make sense given that the ground would be moving beneath our feet. Furthermore, in temperature checking our current community, it appears that increasing application support and buddy backups are of a higher desire. It is for these reasons we have lower the priority of VM features. Keep in mind, you can still create VMs within TrueNAS itself, and we will give you start/stop controls from our Command Deck dashboard for them.
  19. See nascompares.com. In the subsection TrueNas you will find a lot of guides. Also for Ugreen, Qnap, Asustor, ….
  20. Perhaps 45drives / 45homelabs suits your needs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibrOOaYNtJ4 https://45homelab.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopoy3DLgbUc0gcO-KJF9JSFQdNElCXuwmDG4ASU0pnspj5Lc8fe
  21. It all depends of the purpose of your NAS. If you want a rock solid storage for all your important data, don't go this path. If you like the experiment and want to investigate the cutting edge of technology, go ahead. I did a quick search, but I can't find BC-250's for $50. And BC-250 draw a lot of power. So if you want a affordable solutions, there a better options in the market.
  22. @iruixos, is the device with the 10G SFP+ interface active cooled?
  23. The BC-250 is the apu used in the PS5. I have seen Reddit Posts of people who are running Linux on a BC-250, but not without issues. It is experimental. Do you already own a BC250? In that case, Lets give it a try. If you have to buy one, perhaps there are better options.
  24. @EviTRea, I support this. It's a pretty common use case. Migrating to HexOs should be as simple as using HexOs.
  25. There will be a PoE version in the future (according to the FAQ on Kickstarter)
