  1. Well I have 16 drives setup in 2 zfs pools and have have Immich open and working no issues at all except for getting the drives to work. NOT YOUR ISSUE. they were 520 sector 10K SAS drives had to find a program to reset them to 512. I got 8 more drives coming and I get to check the new features. It's Christmas all over again. Keep the good work coming. I am in for the long hall.
  2. I have a external mini SAS 8 bay 3.5" case for now I am going to slide into my rack on a shelf and hook i up with a SAS card put some 6tb or 8 tb SATA drives in that. This is the place I buy all my cards form and the card getting for my Dell..
  3. Around 180 Watts is what I am seeing with 16 Spinning 900GB 2.5 10K SAS Drives. Not great but not bad.
  4. There is docker program that will rip a DVD or Blue Ray then eject it when done Its called Ripper here is the GitHub site. https://github.com/rix1337/docker-ripper#readme What I did was buy a eSata plate and cable on Amazon install it in to my R530 and then get a external flashed Blue Ray Drive off eBay about 150 you might have one that works but I wanted a real Blue Ray reader as well so i order it. It might be on TureNas as a app but you can install it as a docker app to.
  5. Some how one of my post went into a different topic. Strange

  7. Cool i was in the Pipe-fitters Union for like 16 years, retired my book. Like i said above had to go back to HVAC to keep the wife happy HA! But my first passion was always sound and then controls. I work for TraneTechnologies that was the control side of Trane Corp. I moved from Arkansas to Florida in hops because of the music scene and the need for year round cooling HA!! Give a yell anytime.
  8. My system is a Dell PowerEdge r730XD it came with no drives. I upgraded the 2 CPU's to Intel® Xeon® CPU E5-2670 v3 12 cores. These gives me 48 total cores. The memory is just 32gb for now I am going to upgrade it to 128 or 256 have not decided on that yet. I upgrade the Raid module to a mini300 flashed for IT mode and also add the rear 2 2.5 drive board in the back. I bought 20 900GB 10k SAS drives 4 were bad so I had 16 to work with. I installed HexOS in a mirror raid on the 2 rear 2.5 drives the are 800GB Dell SSD drives. I plan on filling all the 2.5 with 900GB SAS drives and the add a JBOD below it with 8 3.5 drives with more storage space. Right below it is my Dell r710 running Proxmox and a Dell r530 below that running UnRaid.
  9. I love cameras and TV, I worked for my Church and helped them build a TV station. I designed the audio and because of some awards I won i got head hunted by CBS. Worked there for 2.5 years and Wife said I did not make enough money. Make a choice HA!! So went back to Control Systems for HVAC. Back then it was pneumatic (AIR) controls. 0 Pressure was full heat, 7.5 PS was Neutral 8 to 18 PSI was levels of cooling. 18 being 100%. Worked at that and its what I still do but know it's digital controls. Do work for Hospitals, Schools and I have done a lot of work for NASA. So you every check out or hear of partsexpress.com great place to pick up raw speakers and amp really cool stuff there. I just pick up some 4" transducers that you screw to the bottom of your couch or any chair. Add an amp and a crossover for base plug into your TV and you will feel the base hit when it does just like the a game joystick does.
  10. So the main thing i do with my home lab setup is audio backup of my Mix and Master library. Right now I have about 7TB of audio files of bands I have done in the last few years and also the master files of some of there albums. Some times maybe a year or to later they want to redo a older song and all i have to do is pull in the archive. No one makes a good database to store archives of recorded music for studio work. That's something I am waiting to play with just need to get my network where i can. I have a 16 ch digital board and a 32 ch rack mixer. Using the two together i can record live 32 ch of music with 16 monitor mix going to the stage for ear and stage mix. The really cool thing is I don't need a Snake from the board to the stage I use a special cat6 cable that carries all 32 ch of audio and 16 channels of monitor and the two main sends to the stage on that cat6 cable. Its call AVB networking and I have a special AVB router that i use to tie in other AVB equipment. AVB is old and Cisco signed an agreement to support the AVB protocol on there switches 14 years ago but have never really done it. So if you are into music. Live or recorded sound jump in I toured for 18 years and have worked for the USO and the Stars and Stripes in Iraq in 2005 to late 2007 so I have been around any help on speakers or just where to pick up stuff for cars or what ever give a yell.
  11. I really like my Dell r530 that's running Unraid with 8 drives,. My Dell 730XD which is 26 drives 2.5 is running HexOS both machines are 24 core. It also HAS the Idrac Console connection for complete control when the system is offline, plus it has a full terminal mode.
  12. That is an awesome idea but would be very time intensive. With all the different system out there. It would be a major undertaking but in the long run well worth it. I design and program automation control equipment. At this time we are fighting the older design and firmware equipment with the new designs and its such a pain getting it right where old and new work together. I don't envy you doing that at all.
  13. So I had tried TrueNas and it was cool but just to complicated. Don't get me wrong I liked it and if i wanted to spend the time I would figure it out. In my day job I design and program automation control system for HVAC using PLC like control called BacNet. The company i work for designed a Wrapper to pull in the points from a controller allow you to map it to animated graphics or text and display it in really time in a browser. So this is right up my alley.
  14. I will find out When the other set of 10 comes in I will. have a total of 22 drives in there I think i will destroy the pool and see how it wants to set them up just for fun.
  15. I have a mirror boot drive of 2 800GB SSD's. I then installed 10 900GBB 10K SAS Drives. HexOS set it up a a z1 with 8 Drives and it left 2 spares. I just order another 10 and I will try to enlarge both pools to 10 drives. Might just blow it all away and see what it wants to do with 20 drives. But with the 10k drives the array is fast. Dell r730 XD 26 2.5" drives has 2 in the back 24 in the front.
  16. I currently use Plex. I put my first Plex machine up in 2010 and got on board why back then. Because of that my monthly payment is really cheap has never changed and I get all features. So for me I am staying there. I have tried Jellyfin but it has never worked as seamless for me as Plex. I have the client on my phone and Ipad and it just work anywhere i am at. The last cruise me and the wife went on I had free WiFi on the boat and at night we watch movies from my server while at sea.
  17. I ran a IRC server for years I love it. I also ran some forum sites like this for a while. I use to be a BBS sysop and ran a support site for the Doors I wrote. Those were the day's. I am a Pascal and programmer and ran a site for code for Pascal along with the programs I wrote for Sysops. Did that for 18 years. Still write in Pascal now but use Lazarus.
  18. I use to do a lot of mods with my Uncle on CB's. There was this company can't remember the name but they released magazines that told you how to mod a CB 40 above 40 below and if SSB to slide a whole channel, me and my uncle we lived about 70 miles apart and talked all the time back then. Really miss those days. Tech is great but some of the people I talk to at night and on the weekend were actually better friends that I have to this day.
  19. Yea I was one of those really bad CB boys. I. had a 100ft crackup Tower dual Y quad on top. Collins 30 or 32 i think transmitter and receiver on 11mhz range, The I go one of the Heath Kit rigs transmitter and Rec sets. That was back in the late mid 70's thru maybe 84 and I moved and never lived anywhere that i could put one up..
  20. Based on what I have seen any drives you hook up will have to be formatted so no exiting drives could be imported. But you could build up the server with lets says 3 Hard drives. Then transfer the data then wipe and install the drives into the new server or pull then as external but you will still have to format them. Kind of a shell game. At some point I will be doing that my self.
  21. I have ran it on about 6 different machines now over the years. I finally bought some cheap appliances off Ebay for around 60 each. I installed DietPi X86 version and that has a Text Gui setup for Pihole and Unbound. That let me put one at the rack at each end of the house and NS1 and NS2. You can set one up just like you want and then export the config into NS2. love the setup and this way if I take down the server pihole setup. Also the NS1 in the studio is also setup as my print server. Lanner appliance which is NS2 has 6 ports.

    HomePage

It is a docker program called HomePage. As you can see it has widgets that can be used to pass data like I have on my Pihole DNS on the left side. https://gethomepage.dev/

So one of my main pages I have on my Unraid Server is a default page for my lab setup. In the future this will move to HexOS as the App's list grows. But i could not wait so I create a logo and the temp server I have up on Proxmox is linked now. As soon as my new server comes in I will switch the virtual out to the r730xd. This is the docker app HomePage.
  24. Hello all. I live in Deland Florida, that's north of Orlando. I have been a Technoid for as long as I can remember. My first computer was a Kim-1 that i buillt. I went from there to a Ohio Scientific 6502 machine. I then switched to Radio Shack TRS-80. I ran a Pascal support BBS and wrote door games and utilities for Sysops for 18 years starting in 1984 using RBBS on a Model 1 Trash80. BBS software I used was RBBS, Spitfire, Proboard, AptXbbs (OS2). After moving to Orlando I switch to OS2 for a while, my clam to fame or my stupidity (don't now which to embrace) was that i had 42 phone line BBS in Orlando. I had always been into Linux for years before and it only got worse as BBS system gave way to the internet. I started out as a pipe fitter and controls system specialists. I now work for Trane Technologies and I design and program and commission both software and graphics for HVAC Automation Control system I do work for NASA, Hospitals and Schools. I also am big into music and music production. I toured as a second job when i was young as a roadie for ShowCo this let me work with some really cool bands in the mid 70 thru the late 80's. I ran sound for the USO at base's in IRAQ during the war in 2005 to mid 2007. Got to run sound for Toby Keith and Taylor Swift several times while I was there. I have a small studio in my house that i do mix and mastering for local bands most of my work right now is bands in Europe. Anyone have music they need to master just give me a yell. This is one of the main reason for my NAS systems, backup for my music files and also my media library. FYI The graphic logo is from my studio name I picked Phat Dragon Studios HA!!
