1) im not sure 2) doesn't particularly matter, I'm using a 265k and it doesnt support HT, it works just fine. That said if you are gonna be using an ancient cpu from before the multithreaded days it might be problematic. 3) your cpu being an F sku does not support intel quicksync for hardware transcoding, you will need to use your 1660 with nvenc for transcoding man every used cpu i recommend ends up being sold out by the time someone else needs a recommendation 😅 if you don't already have your 9400f in hand already i would look into a 8500t on ebay. It has an igpu which is great for troubleshooting if you ever have a gpu issue, support for quick sync but most importantly you won't need the dgpu. I could be wrong but it looks like your usecases don't really need a gpu as strong as your 1660 and on top of that you would be saving a lot of money on electricity without a dgpu sipping power during idle 24/7

my personal bias towards bald eagles and big macs aside i agree with you

New to this NAS thing, is a Dell T605 PowerEdge server a good idea?
Mobius replied to MaverickSpawn's topic in Show & Tell
I would need to know the specific specs of said machine because googling it shows many different machines with the same name. for example the first one i saw with an opteron is probably not worth the effort. -
yes you can do this.

I'm just going off of my experience at r/hardwareswap where more than half of the response dms i get are from scammers
-
glad it worked out

try setting up tailscale following this guide hope it helps

i was thinking about it and if someone were to use mesh wifi, it might work slightly better than a repeater, even if they are just using wireless backhaul.
-
I think official bst is probably not a great idea just yet. They def need more constant moderation and attract all the scammers. Maybe once the team is more acclimated with everything it'll be fine

You were able to do things other than Plex and immich via the hexos ui?
-
I agree, my current data is stuck on a das and i would love to more easily move everything over to my hexos server.
-
I assume you mean 8tb drives? You can probably use smb to copy all your files into the new pool, delete immich and Plex and immich and then reinstall them to the new pool Can't say if this is most optional method but it is what i would probably do in your situation

Closest though to this is the ltt video where Linus said beta 2 was monthS away

Setting up a RAID-Z2 - amount of HDDs / initially supported
Mobius replied to Sese-Schneider's question in OS & Features
you have to go into truenas ui for manual configuration but not all pools will play nice with hexos even after being created in truenas. -
@jonp is aware of our frustration and single drive pools will be implemented in a future update

i like the gigabyte board better because of the usb 3.2 gen 2 port, the extra full size pcie slot and the 2 extra ram slots since more ram is always appreciated in a server. That said it uses a realtek nic which more than likely will not work without some tinkering for the foreseeable future. I have a mobo with what i suspect is the same realtek nic (wasn't able to find the model number of the aorus board nic), I cannot use it at all and resorted to using a usb adapter i had on hand instead. If you can splurge on your 10gb ethernet sooner than later def go for the gigabyte

It would also be nice if we could up/down vote all posts and not just q&a

Can this be done with any vpn? I already pay for proton vpn so it would be great if i could just use that
-
you are welcome. I just want to clarify that many brands can be powered by realtek and you sometimes need to look deeper into the product listing. Another user had issues with a 2.5gb ugreen usb to ethernet dongle because it was powered by realtek
-
you could probably use something like this with a usb to molex adapter and pcie/m.2 to sata adapter I have no idea if this is the best product of the sort but it would like work much better than a usb enclosure
-
there are m.2 to sata adapters if you have free m.2 slots. Keep in mind you would still need free sata power ports as well
