  1. Please help me understand the value-add that HexOS gives over TrueNAS Scale. I have never used either. However, I am interested in signing up for a lifetime HexOS license after I heard Linus (of Linus TechTips fame) endorse it (or at least positively mention it) in what seemed like a non-paid mention. I have been reading about TrueNAS & HexOS. And the understanding I am getting is that HexOS isn't really an OS.... ? It's more like a set of helpful utilities on top of TrueNAS Scale? Ie, it's TrueNAS Scale with some monitoring, UI, and installation tools. If it is more than this, I would really like to understand how much more value it adds. I mean, TrueNAS already has a UI and apps for containers. Like Plex: https://www.truenas.com/docs/truenasapps/stableapps/plex/ But HexOS just makes a better UI!? I mean, I'm making these statements not as a declaration, but as a question: am I understanding it right? I understand that the command deck is an external service that runs in the cloud, outside my own home network. So that can have its uses, for sure, but how does that help with the actual OS side in terms of containerization, storage features, zfs, etc? Command Deck just helps manage it all?

  2. Given the how wildly successful the $99 promotional price was, I think a case could be made that another promo like that would make sense if It brought in similar numbers. Not the same necessarily, but enough to where the math made sense. EG, 4X as many licenses sold in given period would still be double net the income, even at 50% less revenue per license.

  3. @jonp Can we expect this to be addressed in the upcoming Q1 update? ....This is the only thing preventing me from installing HexOS. 😞

  5. Managed to fix the problem. Go into True NAS interface from Settings in Hex. Go to 'Apps' menu, click 'Configuration' drop down button, click 'Choose Pool', select your storage pool then click 'Choose' - the app service will then start, go back to HexOS and install Immich again and all will work.

  6. I've got a Zimaboard with 2x 4TB Seagate Ironwolf drives mounted on the back of my TV, bolted into the VESA mount of my TV. I really think this is the perfect home setup as long as your TV is not wall mounted. It's also practical to have the TV there when you need a monitor for the server, as I just did during the setup.
