  1. The deck shows my hexOS server as unavailable and won't connect. I can see the server is online, shares are up and running, and I can log into the trueNAS web ui directly. I did have tailscale on at first, but I have turned that off and tried everything short of restarting hexOS.

  2. I really have to do a deep dive in ZFS. I have learned in several forums that in specific cases RaidZ1 is more safe compared to RaidZ2. But a don't know in which cases and why. Still learning

  3. I am also not a ZFS expert, but I think you created striped mirrors. Since you are playing a little, you can always test the robustness of your setup by removing 1 or 2 SSDs and see what happens

  4. First of all, yes it's possible to connect both PC and Server via Ethernet cable but you have to setup everything yourself (static IP address) and share your Internet from another NIC or WiFi to your server. However, University Networks tend to be very restrictive, I'm not sure that the Hexos Dashboard will detect the server and you might not be able to use Hexos but only the Truenas GUI. I am also uncertain if you are allowed to hook up a server to their network or if you want to do this, because depending on how you configure it, everyone on the network might be able to reach it.

  7. I have a similar issue as well. I can access the shared drives, but deck keeps searching and never connects.

  8. I have been running a Plex Server for about 10 years on Synology (more than 1) and just want to try something a bit different. I'm attracted to the Intel N100 (rightly or wrongly!) as it appears to be a stronger CPU with good media capabilities. I am a windows user and have dabbled a bit into Linux. I have gotten myself an Aoostar R1 (N100, 1 NVME, 2x12Tb HDD) so then I come to OS. I like the Synology 'style' where I can get a GUI from anywhere on my network. I have tried TrueNAS (too complicated so far) and am currently using ZimaOS which seems quite good but I'm having issues and now I've come to HexOS which I quite like but again am having issues. A question I have is, what is the best way to transfer my media data from Synology, I have been using rsync to back up my Synology to another Synology so thought this might be a good method but I have been having issues with ZimaOS around this as the copied files are not visible from within Plex (I think umask might resolve this but ZimaOS appear to have locked it down and I'm trying to figure that out). As I see it HexOS is for someone like me, my level of knowledge, but I don't want to be coming on here asking basic questions - are there any options? Is there any documentation? As a novice I run into a lot of brick walls and it gets very frustrating.
