I'm deeply disappointed to hear this. We did have a banner on the forums for a while pointing to the Q2 update, but the post itself is still where all of our update posts have been going: the Announcements forum. In addition, there have been multiple Command Deck updates since then that have seriously improved deck.hexos.com performance and responsiveness, as well as resolved a significant networking bug. Check out the Announcements forum and specifically posts by @jerod (our CTO). FYI, I'm Jon (the CEO and Co-Founder). Clearly we're missing some simple comm relays (like the Q2 update dropping) and some of our terminology could be more clear (differing from major and minor updates, OS vs. Command Deck as well). I do apologize for that, as comms are ultimately my responsibility right now. I've told our dev team to stay out of the forums beyond reading posts and communicating with @mill3000 on relevant support tickets. No blame on them for their lack of activity here. And while I greatly appreciate your input and desire for a dev-blog, we honestly just don't have the appetite to do it right now. Writing blogs wasn't part of the job description for the dev team either. We're putting all of our effort and the capital that was entrusted to us by customers (like you) towards building the product. I'm not sure what you mean by this comment. Is there an app you're trying to bring to HexOS that you've developed? I get it. You feel strongly about the devlogs. 😮💨 I don't. We're not even making big investments in marketing right now (our website is still the same from after launch week). All the capital is going towards making this thing really great (including backing/funding the ZFS AnyRaid project). Maybe that changes in the future when it makes more sense to me. Right now, each on-the-clock keystroke from our dev team goes to writing code or communicating ideas internally to further the project. I provide updates as I can and when there's something important to say (such as a release dropping). Clearly you're missing some of those and I'm struggling to understand how and why. It's important that I get this sorted because if it's happening to you, I'm sure it's happening to others as well. Especially as we're now moving at a faster pace than we were in the first half of 2025 and anticipate more frequent updates moving forward. I feel this too. 🤦♂️ I see the purchases you made and when you made them. @mill3000 referred to you as an OG and he's not wrong. No worries, I ignored all the BS from your post....mostly ;-). I definitely recommend checking your server for the Q2 update (the Command Deck will immediately be different if you haven't noticed already) and if you haven't, apply the available OS update from the Activity card on the dashboard. We have a lot more in store for Q3. I'm working on a few blog posts now. one to catch everyone up from June, and another to talk about our upcoming plan for apps. Thanks for taking the time to let us know how you're feeling. I'm confident if you purchased based on the vision you saw from us last year, you'll be happy you did by the end of this year. If you ultimately feel sour about this and want a refund now, let me know and we'll take care of it for you.

It would be amazing to be able to transfer files to and from the NAS within hexos. Maybe this is just hype, but this library looks like an amazing fit. https://github.com/9001/copyparty

I'm seeing some command deck updates, but the last mention of the Q2 update was over a month ago when there were tests being done. Even one reply mentions shipping it the night of 6/26, but then I can't find a single further mention. 😞 Sadly I lost all faith in the HexOS team and moved on to new projects. Only when I see someone post something on YT or something have I been coming back to check and see if anything has been released or if they are even bothering to communicate (dev side.. not administrator. The admin tend be active, but that doesn't much help the project..). I made multiple posts pleading with the dev team to at least start dev-blogging or adopting an agile reporting cycle to keep the community invested. Sadly it appears things have been steadily declining as predicted. I wonder how many other community developers like myself gave up and decided to create the custom apps they wanted on another platform? Heck, from what I can tell we're halfway through Q3 and still waiting on the Q2 update to drop? I know how projects like this go, and not really surprised or down about the release delays. What makes me shake my head is the predictable damage done long term by ignoring voices from the community and not actively engaging with weekly or bi-weekly devlogs. Beating a dead horse here.. but a 5-minute single or double paragraph post on a bi-monthly cycle would have done so much to maintain goodwill if not hype and ecosystem investment. What do any of us know though? Not like some of us haven't managed larger enterprise development projects than this.. or won awards from global brands showcasing our builds on the TS NASDAQ tower. (yeah.. I sound petty and bitter right now, but mostly just because I was totally hyped and invested both in the vision and buying multiple licenses simply for support. I should know better by now how these things go though.) Okay okay.. I apologize for being a c*nt. I'll go back to the shadows and check in silently down the road to see how things go. (Gonna be watching for that redemption arc that's coming! {..hopefully})

I will check the HBA this weekend and report back. The only thing left to source would be RAM, how much and what type. Would I want to populate all 3 channels? From what I've found so far it seems getting it maxed out would be relatively inexpensive since the unit was free. 2 - 5690's - $50 Heatsink - $5 to $10 Fan (one is not populated - $10 RAM - Page 129 : Shows some of my options. What would be the best option for me in populating the slots on each side if I went with dual CPU's? I'm excited to get this up and running. Thank you for all of your insights!

This is my first time also self hosting through Hexos. I’ve gotten comfortable with using a Cloudflared tunnel and zero trust with a personal domain to get access to applications off-site but it has been hours of work. I think, if they can, add something that would automatically allow the applications to be updated with correct env settings it would be huge for so many people. I know with Immich it would need to be a little different since they don’t (yet) have chunked uploads so I had to enable automatic url switching whenever I’m back on the home network. Otherwise, using something like Nginx reverse proxy and a DNS would be awesome to set up as well. So many things they have the ability to make easy for everyone it’s exciting!

Personal opinion inbound: Yes to the jump from a single quad core CPU to two hex core CPUs. But you really need more RAM as well. I would definitely go for more RAM as HexOS requirements state 8Gb minimum and you only have half that. See what kind of cost various RAM upgrade options are. Aim for 8Gb minimum, but see what prices you can get for 16, 32 or higher kits. Registered if possible, as that gives the highest ceiling overall. As mentioned by @ubergeek - knowing which HBA is in the system is also key for your storage options.

I question what HBA is in the devices

Turnkey Reverse Proxy and SSL App - for accessing apps on *internal network*
Toby S replied to Scyto's topic in Applications
HexOS is my first experience with self-hosting, so installing apps has been an exercise in frustration for me. My main desire is to do local backups and local password management, so I was able to get Vaultwarden working and connected through desktop browser extension, but mobile app connection still doesn't work. I believe it requires an https connection, but I wasn't able to get certs working and npm installed correctly, so now I access two identical databases, one local from my desktop and one in the cloud from my phone. -
I have this same experience. The NAS functionality is pretty stable.

This would be a nice feature. A lot of people struggle with reverse proxy setup. -
There are 40TB drives, you just can't buy them and they are not yet being mass produced. (https://www.techradar.com/pro/seagate-confirms-40tb-hard-drives-have-already-been-shipped-but-dont-expect-them-to-go-on-sale-till-2026) Biggest you can buy as far as I know would be 36TB, but it's SMR and not sure if it is available to consumers (https://www.seagate.com/products/enterprise-drives/exos/exos-m/) If you are willing to pay quite a bit more you can get SSDs in even larger capacities, for example these here in 245,76TB (https://americas.kioxia.com/en-us/business/news/2025/ssd-20250721-1.html)

i wish there were 40 Tb drives

didn't realize the 40tb drives were already available. just make sure they are not smr drives. you want cmr drives.

So I finally cracked open the R710 server. I have a single 5520 and 2 - 2gb sticks of ram. I looked on ebay and found matching 5690's for only 50 dollars. Do you think it's worth having 2 2690s?thakks!

Turnkey Reverse Proxy and SSL App - for accessing apps on *internal network*

+1. the amount of time I've spent trying to configure things through njinx proxy manager and have it not work is silly. If they offered a solution, even if it only worked with official apps at first, I'd reinstall Hex right away -
Only Thing I have Shelved was more drives, I have been working threw the current build and found once it is deployed and running " with out the HBA card in my system dying " it has been solid

While there are a lot of things for the dev' team to work on, out of the box the initial release of HexOS delivered a simple but functional and stable NAS software solution. To be honest I've gained all the NAS functionality I wanted (using inexpensive hardware), and learnt a lot along the way, worth every cent of the $99 licence I think...
