jpadgett Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Are you going to setup a Official Discord site. 2 1 Quote
Pyrre Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Let's hope! It's really nice to be able to get support via Discord servers :) 1 Quote
hdd Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 A downside is that much of the history is hidden from the world/search and so others comming across the same issues later can struggle. There are even services (such as linen.dev from a quick google) that try to bridge that. 2 Quote
kaffetermos Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Please. Don't go down the Discord or Reddit path. 2 Quote

I ran a IRC server for years I love it. I also ran some forum sites like this for a while. I use to be a BBS sysop and ran a support site for the Doors I wrote. Those were the day's. I am a Pascal and programmer and ran a site for code for Pascal along with the programs I wrote for Sysops. Did that for 18 years. Still write in Pascal now but use Lazarus. ubergeek Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Why not a BBS? On 12/7/2024 at 6:20 AM, kaffetermos said: Please. Don't go down the Discord or Reddit path. There is already a unofficial reddit Quote

Let's just hope that devs/admin/mods tries to steer everything away from there so if someone asks a question, Point them in a friendly manner to this forum. Quote

While I'm not a fan of the fragmentation I do appreciate Reddit's threads and info density, shame about the platform wider then that. I forgot to mention the blog post by Discourse talking about Discord, a good read. One simplified line being "Discord keeps a searchable record of all your conversations, but the highly unstructured nature of chat makes it difficult to find those really important conversations." ..."How do you find out?" though the meta nature of any gamified functions always played on my mind when I used to help mod a forum. I know a discord was mentioned early on before the beta launch, but I think it got put to the side to streamline the launch process. I haven't heard anything about it since, but the idea was there, and will probably come around again in the future 😊 Quote
Theo Posted January 4 Posted January 4 My opinion is that Reddit was great prior to the release, I was very active before, but now I’ve moved away from it. now it should more so be just for casual chat / topics / conversation. I don’t think it should be (long term) treated as the core support hub. Even now you’re seeing a lot of duplicate questions between the two locations. The Hub imo is what should be the core way for the community to communicate, document & get support. This tool needs a single source of truth, otherwise without it, the goal of this software being for the laymen starts to fall apart. I personally think discord is too niche and doesn’t help with what Hex is trying to do, and rather than consolidate information, it’ll just fragment it… But hey, I’m just some guy on the internet with an opinion 😅🤣 2 Quote
kaffetermos Posted January 7 Posted January 7 (edited) @Mawson And here we have a great example why fragmenting the community is a bad idea and should be avoided. The reddit forum got a different answer from a Moderator than what we have here regarding the Discord. Edited January 7 by kaffetermos Quote

Mobius Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I personally am a big fan of keeping an active community on reddit. For software i am less invested in, i would still like to sometimes pop in to a community where i don't have to make a new account. but +1 for bbc and irc lmao Quote
Creative0100 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 please dont... I have no interest in using discord. Forum is fine for official stuff. Reddit is ok for people to chat about it. It should never have official stuff on there except when it links back to your forum post. Quote
Archion Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Yeah, no discord please. It makes it a pain for the rest of the world that doesn't use it, The same for Reddit, keep official stuff in official spaces. Quote
