I am really considering buying the lifetime early access license. However, I am scared that once I upgrade my current setup, the license won't transfer (my current server is not very good). Can you help me?

I have the same question.  If I buy a license is it transferable to a different system.  For example if the current system it is attached to fails or is upgraded.

I am hesitant to spend possibly hundreds of dollars if this detail is not known.

I would imagine a license system similar to how Acronis does it would be good.

Is the license transferable between different systems?  Is it just attached to whatever account is logged into the system?  How does the license work?

Updated our terms page to be more clear:

Hardware Transfers
HexOS licenses enable users to claim servers for management.  A claimed server deducts an available license from your account.  If you wish to move your license to a new server, you must first disconnect the server from HexOS, which will return the availability of the license for claiming purposes.

Thank you for the update and I apologize for the double post.

This all sounds good.

In the EU you are always allowed to resell a license, regardless of what the EULA states.
In this early stage I guess they are focused on getting the OS of the ground and making people happy and then turning back for regulation compliance work at a later stage. 🙂

Tell that to steam 🤣

Yeah. Heard about the steam debacle.

Steam would likely have a hard time in a EU court if challenged by the EU consumer protection agency. But there is so many fights to pick and so little time for them 😉

If the EU Consumer Protection Agency had thought they could enforce this particular consumer right, they would have taken Valve to court ages and ages ago. Sometimes, you have to take inaction by a federal agency as an indication that they are unable to take action or unwilling to do so.

That's what happens when you get governments involved in certain things. Almost always leads to things not working how they attended it to.

Thing is, you still can sell your whole account in EU, with all games you have. And as this (HEXOS) is one piece of software, not a whole store with sht load of stuff, of many kinds purchasable - it will be rather clear cut situation. And it won't have to go to court to start rolling - there is also EU consumer protection agency with branches in every country, down to a municipality level representation ( like there is low level agent providing his services in city hall).
