I would like to discussed app roadmap/priority. Items in red are high-priority.

  1. Reverse Proxy: traefik (alt options: caddy, nginx, HAproxy)
    1. Per-app integration options with reverse proxy (traefik).
  2. Dynamic DNS: ddns, cloudflared
  3. Auth/Security: authelia (alt option: authentik)
  4. App Dashboard: homepage, (alt options:, organizer, dashy, homarr, flame)
    1. Per-app integration with app dashboard.
  5. File Sync: nextcloud (alt options: synchthings)
  6. Docker Management (GUI): dockge (alt options: portainer)
  7. VPN: wireguard, tailscale
  8. Streaming: jellyfin (alt options: plex, emby, "arr" apps)

This is by no means exhaustive, but a starting-point for discussion. This is based off of my own experience homelabbing first on OMV with docker using smarthome beginner tutorials, then transitioning to TrueNAS scale, using True Charts helm charts. My preference is self-hosting first and the ability to keep EVERYTHING local, then allowing cloud options for ease-of-use.

Add:
VPN egress per app (like gluetun), to only allow outgoing connections via VPN interface (for ensure that Linux ISO downloads are only via secure connections)

Hmm, expected alot more input by the community on this one. Hope reverse proxy is high on the list for currated apps, because it helps manage accesss to them all.

New roadmap dropped not to long ago and a template to let the community make apps Hexos one click compatible was part of it. I imagine one it is out we don't have to worry about what we get first

I stopped using reverse proxies in favor of Cloudflare tunneling.

Edit: Not telling anyone how they should configure their homelab; I just found this to be better for my use case. If I could have a one-click reverse Proxy maybe I'd change my mind and go back 🙂

Nextcloud is a big one yeah.

Yes! Please have Nextcloud, with the ability to easily access it off-site, be part of 1.0! - I spent HOURS, no DAYS, getting this all set up only to work perfectly for 9 months then crash and I feel I'm back to square 1! This is wher HexOS comes in! I want one-click/click-n-play ability to just set this up and have it work.... securely! This would be awesome!

I still don't have my NextCloud working right.  I think some of it comes from not having used Docker before.  On a previous Ubuntu Server setup, I felt like I got NextCloud working pretty quickly.  This one has been stumping me.  I have also tackled the TrueNas community, but that has not been helpful.  Top rated comments are "Use TrueNas Scale and follow instructions".  But none of the instructions line up!  I gave up after weeks turned to months of looking at it in my limited free time.  Waiting until someone with more experience can write up a more exhaustive walkthrough that matches more of the build.

I have learned more about some things since getting HexOS, such as Tailscale, which has been amazing to learn and figure out.   Connecting
Next on my docket to learn is  NGINX.

I'm glad I can learn some of these new skills, but it comes at a price of time.  They weren't in my pocket beforehand, but getting them all to work happily together has been a beast.  As soon as they launch 1.0, this is my ranking of apps to install on a fresh build.

1. Plex (just because I have the eternal license)
2. Immich (loving it lots)
3. Tailscale
4. NGINX (once I figure it out)—unless someone can give me a better idea of how to share Immich photo albums with family using proxies while also being safe online.
5. NextCloud (please be 1-click launch)

Suffice it to say that networking is not my forte, nor is TrueNas.  But I now know more about it than I did before HexOS came out.
