Docker / Dockage for Home Media Server?

Novice here. =/ This is my 2nd try at properly setting up my server. The first time i was having issues so I upgraded my hdd hardware to a Terramaster D6-320 and better truespec usb cable. 

Because this is a fresh install of hexos and I formatted all my drives I want to get it right from the start. 

No mater how many videos I watch I am still confused on what docker is and its use case. (its like a vm folder?) 

My main question is should I install and set up Dockage or other Docker like programs before installing plex, immich, & maybe home serves for minecraft and enshrouded?

Is it needed? What novice benefits does one gain? 

Sorry for the beginner questions, just wanna learn more and get it right.

Hey, you don't need to install or user neither docker nor dockage/portainer etc. HexOS takes care of everything for you. 

All you need to do, is login the HexOS Dashboard, go to curated Apps and install all the apps you want and need and HexOS is taking care off everything. No docker compose files, not folder mapping, no db user/PW to take care off, just super simple one click install apps. 

Under the hood HexOS is configuring and running those apps in docker, but you absolutely don't need to worry about this yourself. 

 

Just give it a try and install the apps and please report back how it went :)
