Server noob looking for advice with 3-2-1 Backup

The main reason we have HexOS and a server at all really is to backup important family pictures we have. I have then seen the wide variety of things that is possible with a server, so our use case has slightly shifted and in addition to immich, we also use plex, and then have several SMB shares on all our family computers to store all the documents in one place. Then of course Tailscale to access it remotely. I figured out how to set it up as a Raid Z2 in Truenas and have been running it without too many problems for over a year now. Other than that, its all we have. I am excited for the buddy backup to come for HexOS which fits for the offsite backup, but I am wanting another method on-site here at home to back up the pictures and documents easily.

The problem is I am complete noob. I see that HexOS has 5 backup apps. Backrest, Borgwarehouse, Duplicati, Restic REST Server, and UrBackup. But I don't know what they do and the one sentence description doesn't help much for a guy like me. (I have played around a little bit with the truenas side, but I did go with Hexos because Truenas felt too much to tackle from scratch. )

I am imagining buying a portable 4TB hard drive, hook it up once a week, hit a button and everything backs up. The next week do the same thing and it'll find any changes and back it up.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I am willing to do a deep dive in the app i know is the right one, but trying to dive into 5 apps to even understand their purpose is a bit daunting. ChatGPT seemed to think Backrest and Restic was the best option. It said Duplicati might be another option, but thought it might be "slight more complicated conceptually"

Anyways, can someone point me in the right direction with even a 1 word answer of the app to go with, or with another forum post if this has already been discussed before?

Thanks in advance
