Waynes World Posted March 13 Posted March 13 The CPU in this is an Intel Atom C2538 Quad Core 2.4GHz, with 2GB from factory, upgradable to 8GB. The HexOS specs state Dual core 8GB. Is 6GB enough, or am I going to see errors or limitations? Released in 2014. I can get 1 locally with a bunch 0f 8TB drives, and its more than suitable for my backup needs. So HesOS on LTT, and it looked good. Do I even need to install HexOS, or is the inbuilt OS and software good enough? Quote
Mobius Posted March 13 Posted March 13 You might see limitations if you try to install apps. Synology has a mature operating system built in already so i would suggest trying it before you try hexos if you have a Synology nas Edit: Thanks @Sonic & @PsychoWards for clarifying that synology doesn't support other os installations 1 Quote
PsychoWards Posted March 13 Posted March 13 You cannot install Hexos on any Synology NAS, it's locked down and does not support installing 3th party OS, you can only use the Synology own DSM with it. You might find some guides, but it's pretty janky and really not worth the hassle, if you want to use Hexos you need to look for another device. 1 Quote
Sonic Posted March 13 Posted March 13 It's possible with other mainstream NAS brands like QNAP, Terramaster, Asustor. But Synology has always blocked this option. You can find more background information here: https://nascompares.com/tag/truenas-2022/ 1 Quote
