dubz Posted Saturday at 04:59 PM Posted Saturday at 04:59 PM I'm a newbie in the server space and have 4 2tb ssd's in my server. I use it for immuch and plex and now I need more storage what sata expansion card do I buy? I saw one guy used a Chinese one off of amazon but I see that other people buy used server cards (lsi raid cards) I just want something plug and play that wont throttle my future 6 or 8 ssds too much. I'm brand new to all this so please keep any explanations simple thank you! Quote
ubergeek Posted Saturday at 10:04 PM Posted Saturday at 10:04 PM This is a loaded question lol. I have seen many people but the amazon pci / m.2 to sata adaptors but If im spending the money I'd look for a used SLI Raid card thats Flashed for IT mode " AKA it will pass threw the connected device without needing to make it a Raid Storage. I personally run THIS CARD IN MY BUILD and if you are worried about adding more than 8 drives It is easy to put in a sas expansion card to add more. Also note you can add this card and still use the existing sata on the motherboard with out issues Quote
Mobius Posted Saturday at 10:08 PM Posted Saturday at 10:08 PM since you want to do ssds you probably want an lsi 9305-8i or higher number card and you want to make sure you buy one that is in I.T mode. Quote
