Deck will not connect to hexOS

The deck shows my hexOS server as unavailable and won't connect. I can see the server is online, shares are up and running, and I can log into the trueNAS web ui directly. 

I did have tailscale on at first, but I have turned that off and tried everything short of restarting hexOS.

I've also got this issue, I don't want to touch anything as it's currently working well otherwise. Would be keen to know if anyone's found a solution.

Mine was - claimed some time ago. It now says it's not available but I can still go through TrueNAS.

Same here, claimed my server in december last year however for since like February/March I've been unable to connect to the server using the hexos dashboard. Server is up and running, I can see it in the network, I can connect to it using truenas interface, I just can't get hexos to connect to it for some reason...

Fairly basic server setup with a N100 CPU (AOOStar WTR PRO with 4x 4tb HDDs <ST4000DM004-2U9104>)
Really haven't done much in truenas other than debugging an issue I had with plex so it should be mostly the same as hexOs set it up originally.

Several other users have also a WTR Pro (Intel and AMD version) and are able to run HexOs without any issue. So the hardware is not the problem.

Did you run by any change a TrueNas update?

I'm still on 24.10.2. According to Truenas I currently have 2 boot environments, 24.10.2 which was created 23/03/2025 and 24.10.0 which was created in 19/12/2024. Guessing that was when it was updated but can't say for sure if it was me or hexos doing it.

There was no TrueNas update via HexOs yet. I suspect that you did run the TrueNas update via TrueNas. I think this the reason that you are unable to Connect to the HexOs deck.

I'm afraid I just started to get the same issue, connecting via truenas interface works and I'm running  on version 24.10.0.

System is running as a ZFS 2 with mirrored boot ssd all set up from truenas interface, however I've been connecting fine via the command deck for days without issue since any changes have been made.

Add another to the pile.

I have not had to log into the deck for quite a while, but found it unable to connect today. Shares, Plex, and TrueNAS ui are working fine, TrueNAS is version 24.10.0.

This may or may not help at all, but I had issues with connting to my server until I went into my router and reserved the IP that my server is using,  If youdl did not do this right away and your router decided to give you a new IP then well your gonna have to set it up as a new server unless you know the IP you first used and manually assign it back to that server under the TrueNAS side.  I also had an issue with network bridging when setting it up on the hexos side it will give out a new IP even if you have your router setup to only use a certain IP,  so again you will have to go into the truenas side and manually assign the correct IP to that bridge, hopefully this will help someone,  idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  it might be something else all together but I'm kinda shooting in the wind with what little info that was provided.

I think I have the same issue. I think I made a mistake with this software I will do a fresh install of truenas without hexOS to see if that fixes my issue. I can't even ping my router. I guess the word Beta means no support in these circles.

Same problem over here. Updated to ElectricEel-24.10.2.2 quite a while ago, everything worked just fine. Today tried opening the command deck - server is not available. Although I can still access server through the True NAS. Double-checked that the local IP address has not changed.

I've been getting the occasional "server unavailable" for a long time. Probably a lot more often than I realize, since I use the HexOS interface so rarely. Whatever functionality is there to detect a lost connection and reconnect, seems to be rather lacking. With no ability to restart just the HexOS layer, the only solution I've found is to restart the whole server. That has always fixed it so far.

Right now I am getting the same thing but it is weird and may not be the same as others.  I only reboot or shutdown the server when I have to. And that is once or twice a week (mostly just once) because of the server unavailable error.  The thing I think is weird is only the wb UI is having a connection issue.  My HD Homerun capture card stays connected and all my TV's still can either watch live TV but also movies and pre-recorded shows from the HexOS server.  My windows drive assignments also maintain their connection to the server.  I haven't tried the TrueNAS connection because honestly, I don't think of it fast enough.  Is it possible something is happening at the developers end that only the web UI seems affected for me?  It is an extremely annoying issue since it requires me to reboot the HexOS server.  When I do I can connect again without noticeable issue.

As far as I am aware, that's pretty much what it is. The HexOS UI does not run on your server, it runs on theirs (Eshtek). HexOS is apparently bad at keeping this connection alive/reconnecting when it goes down. So the TrueNAS interface will work fine, since you access it locally, as will every other service you're running on your server. You just lose access to the one thing you paid for, the HexOS interface. 😛
