  1. Hi there! This is something we can look into, thanks for the suggestion!

    GPU Passthrough

Hi there! Hardware Passthrough is coming with our VM management.
  3. Hi there! As we continue to develop HexOS we want to make everything as easy and simple as it can be. But this is a tricky thing to pull off. Complexity cannot simply be removed, it has to be moved. And our solution might seem simple from the outside, but it’s far from it on the inside. Things like fan control, UPS management and more is on our radar, but we can’t make any promises just yet. There might be existing apps that do a good job though, so maybe we will add some of those to recommend instead.
  4. Hi there! Any app available for TrueNAS is also available in HexOS, but as noted by others, is not a one-click install, and will require you to drop into the TrueNAS UI. We will expand our curated app selection with more apps, and feel free to request apps here in the forums so we know which apps to prioritize
  5. Hi there! We fully intend to support running Windows in a VM with hardware Passthrough for great performance for the use case you’re talking about. Also, it’s completely okey to turn off a server as long as you do it properly in the GUI and not just flip the power switch!
  6. Hi there! Encryption options will be added! Be aware that it’s not possible to just turn on encryption on an existing pool, so it will require a wipe I’m afraid.
  7. Yes. We’re using ZFS. And hopefully make it so simple you won’t need to read a book about it 🙂
  8. Hi there! The requirements will be the same as with TrueNAS Scale. A x86 processor is currently the only CPU types that are supported to my knowledge.
  9. Hi there! Yes, you can disconnect your server and reuse your license on another server.

    Harddrives

Hi there! Each pool will need the same size drives, or else they will be limited by the smallest drive in the pool. If you have enough disks you may create multiple pools of different sizes. The underlying requirements are the same as with regular TrueNAS Scale.
  11. Hi there! This is something we’ve gotten a lot of questions about and we will explore the possibility of “adopting” an existing TrueNAS installation or pool at a later stage.
  12. Hi there! You will need one licence for each machine.
  13. HI there! ECC is not required to install. TrueNAS Scale recommends it though, you can read more here: https://www.truenas.com/docs/scale/gettingstarted/scalehardwareguide/
  14. Hi there! Yes, HexOS will support both apps via docker and VMs. You can read more about it in our roadmap: https://hexos.com/blog/the-road-to-10

    AI?

Hi there! There is currently no AI in HexOS. We have collaborated with experts in ZFS about what to reccommed for pool setup and configuration. If you want to run your own AI, this could certainly be done with an app (docker)

You will get access all the functionality except metered services like cloud backup. These types of services will be an optional extra.

    Os

Hi there! from the newsletter: Beginning November 29th, customers with lifetime licenses will start receiving invites to participate in the HexOS beta program. Invitations will continue throughout December as we scale up infrastructure to support our growing user base, with a goal of inviting all customers by the end of 2024.
  18. Hi there! The beta will not support migration, but as Jon has stated elsewere, we will look into "adoption" at a later stage.
