https://www.gingerling.co.uk/how-i-moved-my-google-photos-to-my-hexos-nas-and-why-it-was-awesome/ This was mostly a lot of fun and has got me super excited about NAS stuff in general, I didn't realise how much of "uploading" and "downloading" difficulties just go away when it's on the same network etc. I was expecting something a bit like an external hard drive or a maybe like OwnCloud/NexCloud. The speed just blew my mind!

Expanding Storage Pools in Hexos – Support for Drives of Different Sizes?
gingerling replied to bonecrusher's question in OS & Features
Hi if I replace each drive with a larger drive will the whole pool later reset to the larger size? -
https://www.gingerling.co.uk/swapping-my-to-more-power-efficient-hardware-my-hexos-nas-how-did-it-go/ Hi Gang!! I've been a bit quiet over the summer as I went backpacking with my little kids in Europe. We had an amazing time but I was totally exhausted after. The above is my latest blog. the tldr is I nearly halved my running costs with a change to hardware that wasn't expensive. Honestly the kit is about the same price as what I had already paid for to begin with. Next I will finally get to running this update and be back soon with that story 🙂 Hope you're all having fun!! Anna x

Thanks so much for this @Todd Miller - It's helpful and interesting, especially the word Experience of Technical. I would like to write a post specifically about what I do and don't know about HexOS and how that has affected me so far. The difficulty I have is in describing what I don't know, I am not yet at a stage where I have figured that out for HexOS. I found it easier to write what I do and don't know about building a PC, for that first post, as I've been watching LTT for years so I have herad a lot of words I don't understand. For HexOS I felt like I knew almost nothing. I will have a bash at a first draft and maybe we can work on it here? Try and add in some terminology and fill in some total blanks! -

It's a tricky line, I try to be clear what my knowledge is around each topic. I know nothing about networking almost nothing about servers, and am deeply uncomfortable with managing important security, anything comand line or code etc. that said I've worked doing QA on software for years and am an IT consultant by trade. I would never ever want to set up TrueNAS for example. I'm interested that you see these things im as technical, however, which bits? Thanks for reading 💜💜 -

Hi all, here is the next chapter! https://www.gingerling.co.uk/playing-with-hexos-part-3-installing-an-app-automated-backup-and-peeking-at-truenas/ @TheCamba Thanks for the comment. As you'll see, I predictably did the not sensible thing and installed a totally different app. Next post I think I'll look at Plex. I'm having a LOT of fun! -

Thanks will do, I'm slowly asking things here. I find it interesting to document the edges of my knowledge and my assumptions when it comes to tech and to try and understand what average users may or may not understand. It's a really fun project to play with, am a bit distracted by a freelance pitch atm but will be back at it next week
