There will also a PoE version. FAQ on Kickstarter (24th of October 2024): While there won’t be a Power over Ethernet version just yet, a PoE-compatible JetKVM device is on our roadmap.

Replicating Virtual Machines from one TrueNAS Server to Another
Sonic replied to ShinobiRen's topic in Show & Tell
Thank you for this guide! @Dylan, can we add this one to the guides page? -
Nice!, glad you have found the solution. I had a same kind of error with Proxmox and it took me several hours to solve the issue. Always nerve breaking 😀

The thing is, DSM really holds up well in terms of functionality, stability, and ease of use. When it comes to hardware, Synology is lagging behind, and it’s clearly moving toward a more closed ecosystem. But no other player has quite managed to match Synology’s level when it comes to software. TrueNAS and Unraid are both very solid, but neither is as user-friendly as DSM. HexOS is still in beta, and even after the 1.0 release, it will take time before it reaches feature parity with DSM. This video mentions a few alternatives, but if QNAP is off the table for you, things start getting tricky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSkO1bdXLyg Ultimately, what you should do really depends on how much effort you're willing to put into switching systems. If you’re not up for that, there’s nothing wrong with paying the "Synology tax" and accepting that you're tied to Synology drives. In return, you get a DSM system that’ll likely serve you well for years. I’ve had a Synology running in my network for over 15 years, and it just does what it’s supposed to. My most important data still lives on it. Let me be clear: I’m definitely not happy with their recent direction. I think they’ve abandoned part of their user base with flimsy arguments—no 10GbE, Synology-only drives, EOL hardware. That criticism is everywhere on YouTube right now. But on the flip side, no one’s forcing you to buy Synology. If you want the DSM appliance experience and you're okay with Synology’s quirks, it can still be a solid choice. Personally, I’m very disappointed with Synology’s 2025 releases. I was hoping for a lot more. But if I’m being honest, I wouldn’t rule out buying another Synology in the future. That would be strictly for NAS and backup functionality. I haven’t used DSM for anything else in a long time. I’m really into the vision behind HexOS. It’s a super promising project. But for now, it’s still a system in development, and it’s not yet a replacement for DSM when it comes to storing my most critical data. At the end of the day, it’s about figuring out what matters most to you. In short: make your own call.

Did you already did a reboot via the TrueNas interface. I have seen another forum post with describing the same issue. A simple reboot fixed this issue. If not, you can try the steps @Mobius recommend.
-
Do you have another OS in dual boot on this server? If so, perhaps this Reddit thread can help you in the right direction: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/comments/vf3fdw/no_shim_lock_protocol_load_kernel_first_error/
-
You have to disable secure boot in the BIOS. I think that will solve your problem.
-
Check, you are right. The splitter is the problem. Bad luck 😕
-
You can test this by connecting the USB-C power directly to the JetKVM (without splitter). I just did a quick test. With USB-C power directly conneted to my JetKVM the device turns on.
-
@PsychoWards, perhaps a stupid thought. Did you put the USB-C power plug in the right part of the splitter? On my splitter you see to different marks. One for power and one for data.
-
Did you run the latest update. Perhaps that’s make a difference.
-
I did also some tests. usb-c to usb-c cable with a Apple usb-c power supply works in my setup.
-
Which Power On/Off accessory are you looking for? Is it the DC Extension? --> It will not only control the power supply to another computer, but also supplies the JetKVM with 5V through the RJ 11 cable.

GL.inet Comet looks also interesting. Especially this specs: 2K@60FPS video with H.264 hardware encoding for smooth performance Ultra-low latency (30ms-60ms) for real-time remote control And almost the same pricepoint
-
I thought the same. I also have a BliKVM V4, which cost me more then 200 euro’s. It does the job, but very unpolished compared to the JetKVM.

And ServerTheHome, quote: Synology Lost the Plot with Hard Drive Locking Move https://www.servethehome.com/synology-lost-the-plot-with-hard-drive-locking-move/ It's really a pitty, but it seems Synology don't want to have consumers as customers

This reviewof Linus is spot on. The reviews of Wundertech is also pretty clear https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBNxWyQhQbY

The HexOs is / was waiting for the TrueNas 25.04 release. This release will be the fundament for VM support in HexOs See: https://hexos.com/blog/hexos-q1-status-update Quote: Rescheduling VM Support Similar to what happened with Docker, iXsystems is in the process of migrating TrueNAS SCALE to a new VM and Linux Container management environment in their next major release, 25.04. Incus promises to provide a few key feature improvements, including a better web-based VNC agent. As such, focusing on VM management features in the short term didn’t make sense given that the ground would be moving beneath our feet. Furthermore, in temperature checking our current community, it appears that increasing application support and buddy backups are of a higher desire. It is for these reasons we have lower the priority of VM features. Keep in mind, you can still create VMs within TrueNAS itself, and we will give you start/stop controls from our Command Deck dashboard for them.

Took A Bit Of Time But Found Deals On eBay (Yes, It Was Worth The Wait)
Sonic replied to Iliyria's topic in Show & Tell
I use Proxmox and I installed HexOs in a VM with SATA and NVME passtrough. I am not the only one in this forum with such a setup. In the past I used VMWare ESXi, but since the Broadcom takeover it is not suitable for a homelab anymore. -

@Iliyria, Is there a specific reason you created one big RaidZ2 pool with 13 HDDs? Why not e.g. a pool with 7 HDDs and one with 6 HDDs? From what I have read online people recommend raidz2 if the number of disks are between 8 - 12 because the resilver time is too long and there's a high chance of another disk failing during the process. But say that it's better to use less disks in a pool. I try to learn a lot about ZFS. -

Please share your experiences. I am looking forward to it. Which VM hosts do you have in mind to start with? -

Looks nice! A real homelab monster. Only the amount of memory is a little bit low 😀. Just joking What do you want to do with so much capacity? I am really curious. I don't think you only want to use this machine for storage. -
There was no TrueNas update via HexOs yet. I suspect that you did run the TrueNas update via TrueNas. I think this the reason that you are unable to Connect to the HexOs deck.
-
Several other users have also a WTR Pro (Intel and AMD version) and are able to run HexOs without any issue. So the hardware is not the problem. Did you run by any change a TrueNas update?
-
For test purposes you can also install HexOs in a VM and create two or three virtual harddisks. I run my test HexOs setup in Proxmox on a mini PC with 1 SSD
