For (Hex)OS it seemed I would have to go with what is referred to as an industrial SSD. So, like the chip only, with no outer casing. These are not easy to get on the consumer market. But thanks to @Starshock2002 and @DomSmith I now know it’s not that exotic. In my topic ”What type of SSD is this?” under Hardware user Starshock2002 said that this industrial SSD looked to be the thing inside most 2,5” SSDs, and so did user DomSmith in this topic. Both had a picture to show. SO what did I do? I got me a Samsung SSD!. Somehow I’ve stuck with Samsung for 2,5” SSDs. In the shop I told the guy I would immediately void the warranty, because I only need ”this” and showed him a photo of the inside chip.. Then I found a video on YT showing how to get inside the casing. The operation on my own SSD would have to wait a couple of days. Only then I will know if it fits inside my ”Pocket NAS”. But for those interested, here’s the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5Wf2q2kAnI

As you might have noticed, I haven’t talked much about HexOS itself, in this topic. I don’t have a panic about that. Let HexOS slowly evolve, I will get there in due time. For now, I’m content with exploring this ”Pocket NAS”. More will come!
-
Thank you @Dylanfor assistance with the new headline for this topic of mine.
-
@Dylan This would be better I think. ” NAS built in 2015? No, SFF instead! ” So, some of my old topic title left for those looking for the familiar name of a topic. Thanks for your help!.
-
So, could you change the title of your own topic, in some way? I don’t see an obvious method of doing it. Anybody wiser than me?
-
Now, I’m on my way to earning the moniker ”SFF ninja” given to me by @Dylan in another post. Not there yet but slowly going in that direction.

I told you earlier, this mini is sold under another brand. This video review is of a ”CWWK Pocket NAS” which to my eyes look exactly the same, as my own StoneStorm device. This thing with different branding is not unusual in Chinese electronic products, like computers and HiFi gear. Here we go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09emfOJW9g8
-
So, before I would have time to open my own StoneStorm Pocket NAS, as they call it, I believe it’s about time I told you about videos I found. This first one is, I believe associated with the brand itself. It shows you how to get into the inner space and so. There are some Q and A in the comments also. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-b1ipi7ii8

And I’ll check with your lspci some time in coming days, Thanks for the suggestion!

@DomSmith OT, There’s is a river way up north in Sweden, that’s bifurcated, so splits into two rivers.
-
And I paid of course custom fees and tax before delivery. In fact AFTER!, FedEX sent a bill that I got after delivery.
-
So, for anyone interested in this mini on ipc.net where I got mine, in December. There is still "New arrivals 10% off". I paid 477USD, no shipping charged, even though they state "only $323 away from free shipping". Of course you could get on on amazon.com but maybe not with all choices for configuration?
-
Well, I might have been a bit optimistic there. You did say ”this presumably passes the 1x4 up to the expansion board where it's then presented as 4x1.”
-
With the riser card, do you mean an M.2 drive could be used there? I’m not that much into M.2 slots. I bult computers with classic SATA connection for drives.

My story under ”Customer Lobby”. Now continued here:
-
So, another picture from the ipc.net support team. I had to ask them questions, this information wasn’t in the user manual. I’ve also shown this under Customer Lobby in December. Video coming later, about how to get inside this petite PC.
-
Yes, thank you.. I have somewhat come to the same conclusion. I’m on that track and I’ve got as SSD to work with. Found a video too, that I will refer to in a future post.
-
The industrial SSD called for, would have to be something like this: This picture is from the ipc.net, (where I got this mini) support team.
-
On first boot I came to a screen saying something like ”Welcome to the ProxMox virtual environment”. I’m not familiar with ProxMox, YET, so didn’t explore that further.
-
So, I went for the N305 with 32GB of RAM, About the M.2 slots. There are four slots available, which I would use for storage only. IF I can get to grips with the Industrial SSD to use for the OS (well in this case of course HexOS). I will come back to that. I wrote about this under ”Customer Lobby” in December. The specified hard drive - my choice was a 512GB one - turned out to be one of the four NVMe slots occupied for this drive. And it was connected correctly to the motherboard. It could be seen, using DrParted on an USB-stick for booting. I got four NVMe drives for storage, separately, and plan to use this 512GB for external extra storage. You could get this mini as a barebone also, but then I guess you would get to buy the memory stick of your choice. I believe this motherboard could take up to 48GB of RAM.

Only thing is, I misspelled the ubergeek username, and corrected that in next post. I’ve not used this tagging, before you. Actually I don’t know what it does 😉 Seen it on this forum…. And I’ll be back with more mini-NAS stories, you know.
-
Sorry @ubergeek in my last post

@Dylan @uberggek @Mawson. So the question was, when I left this story by Christmas, where to put an OS disk?. Pictures from their support teams show something that looks like a type of industrial SSD, just the chip, without the outer case. Industrial SSD:s aren’t easily available to Joe, the customer. I contacted a seller in Europe, who told me they only sell to corporative clients. I found some videos online that show you how to get into the inner part of this beauty. YouTube is your friend! I’ll post them in due time. Life seems to be more than HexOS, who could believe?! And about the industrial SSD, there might be be a solution to that problem, also. Found another video…

Well, this one actually turned out fine 😉

So, I’m having big problems writing posts in this forum. I try to make the layout clear and easy to get through, for those reading it. Then when I’ve pressed the ”Submit Topic” button, to read through my post it often looks quite different. Anyone else having this issue? I would like to treats posts the same way I do, writing longer pieces of text, with paragraphs and so on. But how to do it properly in this forum?
