  1. To add to @ubergeek's I have it on good authority that there is a pretty big "state of the union" style update coming at some point in the near to middle distant future. Should cover everything that has happened since the early access launch back in November. Don't expect it tomorrow, a week or two would be a more reasonable guess. Don't quote me on this though. @jonp is a VERY busy dude these days 😅

  2. It is a must these days to have TailScale support, especially for secure remote access. It is far too easy to mess up a WireGaurd/OpenVPN Config, if the goal is security and simplicity, Tailscale VPN access should be a high priority.

  6. like Dylan my need are very limited... I was tired of windows and I use my nas as a streaming device and run file sharing app... The only thing I have to go under the hood is to fix a small issue with plex and install qbittorent. I just want something simple and hexos is pretty much on point on what I need. I'm also planning to start over when there is more app offer with the single click option to make it more the "hexos way" to do it

  8. Great question! Because I have limited needs, just a storage device with basic streaming capabilities, I use HexOS on the daily - mainly Plex. However, this is just part of my larger effort to build out a home solution that will eventually replace paid-for services that have increasingly risen is price and are more inclusive of advertisements (I LOATH ads with a perfect hatred). I am attempting to time my efforts with HexOS maturation. Which is to say as HexOS gains in features, I look to increase my DIY replacement of paid-for services. I know not everyone has the same timeline, level of effort, risk tolerance etc.. as I do, but that's why I jumped in early. I keep backups, try to contribute to this community and help where I can to see where this is going.

  9. Theoretically it is possible however not officially supported at this time. I can only give your the possible methods but can't make any promises it will work Option 1: transplant the boot drive and all the drives of your current machine to the new one (Deck might not think it is the same device in which case you will have to reclaim it) Option 2: install hexos on the new machine, claim your new server on Deck, you will have to bypass drive erasure in 1 of the following ways when it asks you if its okay to delete your drives , hit yes and it will fail (happened to me and multiple other users but no promises it will work for you) bypass erasing your drives by plugging in 2 usb sticks and letting hexos make a pool with that keeping your HDDs unplugged and hoping for the best when you claim your server creating a new pool with drives that werent part of your original pool Once you bypass the drive erasure screen you go into truenas and migrate the pool from there. This may or may not work.

  10. There is this one on the main web page https://hexos.com/blog/the-road-to-10 I can tell you working with the mods and Jonp there is a lot of moving parts the HexOs crew / devs are doing to get things rolling. It will be a process for them but I can tell you they are working to make sure the upcoming updates and Alpha release will be solid.

  11. Hexos doesn't support raid 5 or raid 6 They have similar layouts called raid z1 and z2 respectively. Z1 sets sides 1 drive of storage for parity and z2 sets aside 2 drives of storage for parity. There is also raid mirror which is limited to 2 drives. My suggestion is always decide if you want 1 or 2 drives of parity first. If you want 1 drive of parity, buy the largest 3 hdds that make financial sense for you. If you want 2 drive of parity, buy the largest 4 hdds that make financial sense for you. This is so you can expand your pool later if you want to The more hdds you have the more you'll end up paying in electricity costs in the long run and it does add up. Plus there is a limit to have many drive bays we have access to. Final note raid z2 needs to be configured in truenas but should not cause issues in hexos

  12. Tailscale delivered in an Ansible deliverable that unpacks through HexOS is my vision. HexOS is the killer app for Tailscale, and vice versa.
