  2. Hi Seeg, Refund requests can be made by simply emailing support@hexos.com, but one of our moderators has already flagged your account for a refund.. The behaviors you are reporting are not due to HexOS or TrueNAS SCALE. We do not "exfil" your data in any way. We simply provide a management platform for your server through an API. We do not store copies of any of your data anywhere. The 900mbps sustained data transfer you are claiming is likely coming from a 3rd party application you installed or something else on your network. Otherwise I'd ask you to post any logs or evidence to support this claim so we can investigate further, as we do not see that behavior on any of our test systems or other reports from customers. It appears you used AI to write this post and I'm guessing it got a lot of things wrong that you weren't aware of. Not a problem, we will process a refund all the same. We don't want any unsatisfied customers. Thanks for giving us a try and we wish you luck on finding a better solution that meets your needs.

  4. Dear HexOS / Linus Tech Tips Team, I hope this message finds you well. I'm writing regarding my recent HexOS purchase, which I bought as an early access product expecting simplified TrueNAS management. Unfortunately, I've encountered challenges that have led me to request a refund, and I need your help disabling the service. What I Experienced After claiming my server Unexpected Network & disk: With no backup configured, I saw sustained ~900Mbps outbound traffic to link.storjshare.io and api.hexos.com via the wsocat WebSocket tunnel (PID 17377, 1MB buffers). This matched high disk reads from my media vault. Difficult to Control: Killing wsocat stops it temporarily, but it restarts. midclt call service.stop "hexos-agent" fails (service not found). No clear GUI toggle exists. Dashboard Dependency: Blocking the tunnel (with my firewall) eliminates uploads but breaks HexOS Deck access ("Server not available"). - Even removing the server from the HexOS cloud service does not stop this data transfer. Unexpected Cloud Service Lock in: I didn't expect to be required to rely on your cloud service to maintain my own server, this goes against self hosted as a concept.. Why HexOS Isn't Valuable for Me Honestly, I don't see much value in continuing with HexOS for the price I paid: Limited Features: The cloud dashboard and "simplified" management haven't demonstrated significant improvements over stock TrueNAS Scale. Early Access Concerns: I purchased during early access expecting rapid progress, but haven't seen meaningful updates or enhancements that justify the cost. Misleading Expectations: The aggressive cloud sync behavior felt like data exfiltration rather than helpful management, without clear opt-out options or bandwidth controls. I feel somewhat misled by the early access promise—I expected a product evolving toward clear value, but the core issues (uncontrollable uploads, poor disable process) persist. My Requests Full Refund: I'd like to return to standalone TrueNAS Scale. Official Disable Instructions: Step-by-step process to permanently remove the HexOS overlay/tunnel without data loss or reinstall. Data Confirmation: What was uploaded during the sync? (Metadata only? Full files from my media vault?) And can you confirm/delete any stored data? Thank you for understanding my position. I wanted HexOS to work but ultimately find it doesn't meet my needs. Your assistance with the refund and clean uninstall would be greatly appreciated.

  6. Absolutely! AMD Ryzen 9 7950X with 128 GB of RAM 5x4TB HDDs for NAS data storage 3x2TB SSDs for apps and related app data I noticed that very often the RAM cache usage sits at 80-90% with very little overhead for the apps. Last time the server froze-up was when I started metadata refresh in Immich. I hadn't monitored the server during that time, but almost certain that it froze due to the app reaching the total RAM capacity. I also read up on TrueNAS caching and it sounded like there is no way to set up an upper limit for how much it could use. PS Also, I realised that before I signed in I hadn't seen all of the possible threads to ask the question so this thread may not be the most appropriate to ask. For any mods, please feel free to move this to the appropriate section or delete this/mark as solved and I can re-post this accordingly.
  7. Nzbget working, out of The box, with radarr, sonarr etc.. At this moment its a permision nightmare. Radarr cant access the download location by default. Also a dumded down version of permissions and ALC’s would be welcome. A synology style of interface would be helpfull. A consistent report on drives of the Pools creaties in truenas. My z1 redundancy drive shows up in hexos’ interterfacd as not used.. Yes it is…. I have the same issue with my 2 nvme drives that are configured as cache, and shows up as not configured.. support for homey Self hosted!
  8. Further to this I "MAY" buy a second drive so it can be protected from failures in the future.
  9. I am getting the below I/O error on a Sata SSD. I am pretty sure there are some app files on the drive, what do I do from here? I want to buy a new Sata SSD in a different size (500G probably). Is it a matter of shutting down the server, Removing the drive using something like Crucial software to copy the contents over and refitting the new drive?
  10. I’m having what seems to be a similar issue, but on an intel 11th gen i7 processor. Anyone have any ideas?
  11. I did miss this before I got around to it. I ended up reinstalling. I was able to migrate all my data off since it was in read only to save my self a headache of reorganizing all of it, then set it back up and moved data back onto it. This time I took a trueNAS backup so this cannot happen again. Thank you for your time and help!

  13. Yeah I have this issue right now trying many things without luck. Hopefully it just works.
  14. Hey, can you please post your complete HW specs ?
  15. Hi everyone! I've been noticing an issue with my HexOS server whereby the system will freeze up. The system stops showing up in the Deck dashboard, and I can't access any local apps. However, the server hardware is still running. The server never recovers, so I have to reset it via the button on the case. From what I've been able to deduce, this seems to happen when the server comes close to or reaches the RAM usage maximum. I noticed that TrueNAS uses a big chunk of RAM for cache, which is understandable. However, when running Ollama (when models spill over to RAM) or when running other RAM heavy tasks (like metadata refresh in Immich) it seems the cache usage doesn't go down to free up extra space and the system runs into the hardware limits. Now, onto the question -- is there a way to set a hard limit on the TrueNAS cache RAM usage or allow the server to manage RAM a bit more intelligently? If there is any way to collect any necessary logs, please let me know how I may be able to do that and let me know if I can share any other extra info to troubleshoot this.
  16. I had problems with my system boot looping as well when trying to mount ZFS. I never managed to fix it and had to wipe my drives. But you are in a better situation than me, as I couldn't even mount them as readonly! You can have a look at my misery here: You might be able to fix your issue by mounting the file system in recovery mode. This means it will delete the last few transactions to the pool, and attempt to mount. If it froze while doing some transactions to your pool, this might fix it. But keep in mind the last transactions it deletes will be forever gone (probably not that scary compared to losing all data). The zpool command I tried: "zpool import <poolname> -N -F" "-N" = "Import the pool without mounting any file systems." You might not need this as you have already shown you can import the file system in readonly. "-F" = "Recovery mode for a non-importable pool. Attempt to return the pool to an importable state by discarding the last few transactions. Not all damaged pools can be recovered by using this option. If successful, the data from the discarded transactions is irretrievably lost. This option is ignored if the pool is importable or already imported." https://openzfs.github.io/openzfs-docs/man/master/8/zpool-import.8.html DISCLAIMER: I am a ZFS noob so the above might be bad advice. But it was what I could find when I was in a similar situation as you.
  17. For me, I just resorted to leaving the VM on all the time, outside of memory usage idle and off don't change much in terms of usage. For access I just resorted to creating bookmarks for the members at first. Afraid there is no easier way that I know of. Later I did a reverse proxy and added DNS entries for all the local domain names for each service, but that was a fair bit of technical setup.
  18. Just downloaded Hexos, so finding my way around. As anybody answered this question?
  19. When booting the system I get an error for Kernel Panic, mentions something about unable to mount zfs and having a kernel offset. When it boots I have the option to boot into 4 different HexOS versions, all of them have the same issue. I kept the main install drive untouched so I can trouble shoot on it, I had the idea of using another spare drive to reinstall HexOS and within the TrueNAS interface see if my data is alright, and it seems to be. Using zpool I can mount it, but only as read only, if I change read only off it crashes. The last time my HexOS system was working as intended, it froze and I had to hold the power button to reset it, so I am thinking maybe it froze in the middle of doing something with the pool? I can access my data, but I do not have any drives large enough to migrate all the date off and move it back on. All my data is backed up else where scattered around so if the pool is lost it is not the end of the world, just a lot of work to set it back up. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advanced! I am also willing to hop on a discord call with anyone if they would like to work through this with me.
  20. So to give you a better idea of our requirements and to answer some of your questions . Please consider the following points- 1. Just a storage NAS would be good we dont need any developer kit options for this NAS . Any system which can deliver the files to the network users such that the file loading times in 3D design softwares are not slow would do 2. NextCloud would be useful too for accessing the data remotley as some of our installation engineers do need to access the data from the servers and now they copy the entire projrct onto thier laptops before going to the installation site which is not ideal or time efficient 3. I have some time as the system we currently have is still working and the top managment is not excited to buy a new NAS system given the current market conditions ,but we need to decide on a solution sooner rather than later as the hard drives in the current system are about 10-12 years old and may spin for the last time any day now
  21. All discussion for this can be made in this thread.
  22. Or another idea i had. i could disconnect all drives associated with the boot drive and reinstall hex os. BUT i know it was a big issue on launch that doing so would result in your old drives having to be reformatted. I'm not sure if that was ever adressed but that is another thing I could do. Does anyone know if that is possible, reinstalling hex os but keeping all data on the pooled drives?
  23. i dont realy know what pictures to share or other information i should include so anything you need me to send ill do my best to navigate the onboard UI and snap a few pics. untill then the nas is off just bc i dont know what its doing when its on
  24. I was trying to set up a next cloud server so I could access my nas from anywhere. Problem was my server only had a local ip address you know a 10.0.0.123 type of address. I went into the hexos networking settings to try and change it. Instead of having a manual I p address, I changed it to automatic. This caused the website to stop( i'm assuming to switch from a local IP to a public IP) i waited several minutes for it to start up again with no luck. I went onto the nasa itself, and I plugged in a monitor and keyboard and I got alot of issues with characters that shouldn't be there to and a bunch of different graphical issues. I tried to at least put it back to a local ip So I could have my nas back but with no luck. Now it won't show up on my network as a hexos server when I type in the Ip address that used to be, for hexos, it goes to true nas. All of this, because I wanted a public I p address and yeah I did (ip add) in the linux terminal but all I got was a long list of characters that didn’t give me the ipv 4 or 6. Im at a loss of what to do next. I cant access any of my files and im concernd i wont have access to them without doing a fresh install of hex os but if i do that it will reformat the drives. please help.
  25. If you wanted to check I believe data can come in any of about 5 channels. And as you see here one channel does not rule them all. I know it's fun to be that cool kid who is on all the socials but this product needs to mature.
  26. that could of been posted in the forums also, I don't do X either.
  27. Bear in mind you are asking about a software app that is not production ready so if you are asking for now and if you are asking for when it goes live and gets through the shakedown period are two very different questions. A timeframe for when you need it could be helpful, the type of NAS you want (just storage vs developer kit) and any other generic info you can give without divulging corporate secrets might help. And really that only probably pertains to the apps and access options you would use like would you use Nextcloud to access the NAS and any of its addons for collaboration or development tasks. Integration with other systems is probably a large consideration. Though there has been discussions over lifetime and monthly costs, I wonder if the team has thoughts about enterprise opportunities. If you have time this could be a very interesting due diligence exercise for both yourself and Eshtek to go through but maybe not this soon.
  28. yes please. sorry for the late reply, I expected to get an email for a reply. I would very much like getting help with this, I found an article that seems to solve the issue I'm working with, but I'm in way over my head and too scared to start. https://michaelrichter.online/immich-disaster-recover-guide-for-truenas-scale/
