support Will HexOS reformat my drives if I re-add the server?
Sonic replied to viper1200's question in OS & Features
I noticed also this pattern. -
A backup of the Truenas config file is always a good idea. What you could consider is to buy two 128 GB sata SSDs and use them as OS mirror. You can buy a TLC sata 128 gb SSD for approx. 10 to 15 euros. I expect the $ price will be the same. You have a very nice system with pretty good components. I would spend the extra $30,- Just my 2 cents

support Will HexOS reformat my drives if I re-add the server?
PsychoWards replied to viper1200's question in OS & Features
Could this be linked to reinstall vs reclaim? Those cases which I noticed which wiped the drives were all reinstalls of Hexos as in this case. Other cases w/o data loss were reclaims of an existing installation. I didn't look into every single case, but this was a pattern I noticed. -
Stuck on the Looking for servers page
Ben Anderson replied to Mark Shaffer's question in OS & Features
I had the same issue. I had it plugged into an access point. When I instead plugged it directly into my router it showed up. -
I haven't actually looked into how to do this myself. I'm still running a test server 😅 I would probably just follow along to a youtube video. Officially yes but there are workarounds for at least maintaining your storage. i'm not sure yet how nicely hexos plays with restoring app setups for config files.
-
I had a similar issue. I originally used Ventoy to boot the HexOS ISO. Once I used balenaEtcher it worked fine, even in UEFI mode.
-
There is an API under the hood. https://api.hexos.com E.g. to restart HexOS it's POST to https://api.hexos.com/server/yourserverid/restart But without API keys you'd have to use cookies and because it's not public it could change at any moment.

I should probably have thought of a grinder, but my rack is underneath an IKEA butchers block which is my desk, so I didn't want to set that on fire. Or the carpeted floor in my office....
-
Oooh this is a *very* good idea. I will get onto this right away. Do you have any recommended tutorials on automating this backup to OneDrive / Google Drive? I am under the assumption that as of right this moment, if it dies and I restore my TrueNAS I can't bring it back into Hex, but this will be something that will be possible in the future.
-
I tried that could not get it to work. Think I will uninstall Hexos and reinstall truenas watch YouTube videos on how to. Bought this application Thinking it would of be easy to work it. This makes the fourth time I will have to reinstall the application and start all over. But thanks for sharing
-
very cool setup. One recommendation, since you are using a perviously used and older ssd as your boot drive, look into auto backing up your truenas config file maybe in the cloud. In case the boot drive fails itll just make the process slightly less painful. That said its probably a good idea for everyone to do this

last i heard it was coming sometime in 2025 with the version 1.0 update.

I imagine you will have to go into the truenas interface and configure the jellyfin app to see the same directories as plex. That said i am far from an expert on the matter, heck i only bothered to install jellyfin myself last week.

support Will HexOS reformat my drives if I re-add the server?
Mobius replied to viper1200's question in OS & Features
question did you have a raid z1 pool or a mirror pool? I'm just trying to figure out why hitting delete works for some users and not for others -
I setup plex with all media on the server. I install jellyfin but I can't find a way to access the media already on the server. Unless I have double copy of everything. Did anyone figured out how to access your media using jellyfin? Thanks

I am wondering when we can host the deck.hexos.com dashboard locally as I do not want to always access it via the web.
-
The tin snips broke my heart, Bring it to me so I can hit it with the plasma or 4in grinder lol
-
the 630 is a good server chassis. they can be a power hog just make sure you do some proper maintenance and give it some new thermal paste
-
I just want a HBA and a 48 drive JBOD

Question on HexOS-IXSystems Partnership and TrueNAS/HexOS Support
DTLegit posted a question in OS & Features
Hello and greetings HexOS community and developers- I hope this post finds you well. I wanted to ask a question in regards to the partnership between IXSystems and HexOS, and supporting the development. I just wanted to say thanks to you guys for all the incredible work that has gone into HexOS thus far. In an effort to express some interest in supporting both the TrueNAS and HexOS projects, I wanted to ask if whether buying a license or two for HexOS would be indirectly also be donating to IXSystems due to the partnership, also knowing that it would help fund HexOS itself as well. Thanks for your time in advance! From- DTLegit - Yesterday

I'm sorry if I missed it on the road app or feature list. The biggest thing I use Synology DSM for is syncing files from family members computers to my NAS remotely using Synology Drive Client and backing up their computers. I didn't see this listed for Hexos, if this is available, I'm ready to jump ship from dsm. My family is not computer savvy so I need something turnkey easy to deploy over the phone. Sounds like immich is the way to go for photo backup instead of synology photos and buddy backup is coming this year? Right now I have my movie files on the Nas and a separate computer to transcode with a gpu. How does running hexos and transcoding streams of movies affect performance? Would I want to keep the same model I have currently with two separate machines or could I combine them? Anything else I should consider? Thanks in advance! I'm excited to see where this project goes!

Hi I'm new to this and i set this nas up a couple days ago Setup is an 11th Gen Intel cpu in an Optiplex 5090 SFF 3 x 1 TB 2.5" SATA 3 SSD's (Brand new) Attached using a SATA power splitter and a PCIe SATA card. Received Alert "Pool SSDs state is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An attempt was made to correct the error. Applications are unaffected." Logging in hexos shows my pool status as degraded but all drives are listed as healthy when i view their status. Opened TrueNas for more info, receive the following. "Critical Pool SSDs state is ONLINE: One or more devices has experienced an error resulting in data corruption. Applications may be affected." Ran a scrub and some smart tests but all disks passed the smart test. Tried rebooting- Truenas failed to launch docker and now Immich is Uninstalled? I have other copies of all data on the device Please Help

I recently upgraded my GPU from a GTX960 to a GTX1660 SUPER. After I got the server up and running again I went into the true nas shell and ran NVIDIA-SMI to make sure the GPU is showing correctly and it is. However when I noticed I wasn't transcoding in Jellyfin I checked to make sure the GPU was still set to pass through, and it wasn't. I checked the box and hit update and then I get this error: error FAILED [EFAULT] Failed to render compose templates: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/apps_render_app", line 33, in sys.exit(load_entry_point('apps-validation==0.1', 'console_scripts', 'apps_render_app')()) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/catalog_templating/scripts/render_compose.py", line 47, in main render_templates_from_path(args.path, args.values) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/catalog_templating/scripts/render_compose.py", line 19, in render_templates_from_path rendered_data = render_templates( ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/catalog_templating/render.py", line 36, in render_templates ).render({'ix_lib': template_libs, 'values': test_values}) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/jinja2/environment.py", line 1301, in render self.environment.handle_exception() File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/jinja2/environment.py", line 936, in handle_exception raise rewrite_traceback_stack(source=source) File "/mnt/.ix-apps/app_configs/jellyfin/versions/1.1.21/templates/docker-compose.yaml", line 3, in top-level template code {% set c1 = tpl.add_container(values.consts.jellyfin_container_name, "image") %} ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ File "/mnt/.ix-apps/app_configs/jellyfin/versions/1.1.21/templates/library/base_v2_1_16/render.py", line 59, in add_container container = Container(self, name, image) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ File "/mnt/.ix-apps/app_configs/jellyfin/versions/1.1.21/templates/library/base_v2_1_16/container.py", line 94, in __init__ self.deploy: Deploy = Deploy(self._render_instance) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ File "/mnt/.ix-apps/app_configs/jellyfin/versions/1.1.21/templates/library/base_v2_1_16/deploy.py", line 15, in __init__ self.resources: Resources = Resources(self._render_instance) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ File "/mnt/.ix-apps/app_configs/jellyfin/versions/1.1.21/templates/library/base_v2_1_16/resources.py", line 24, in __init__ self._auto_add_gpus_from_values() File "/mnt/.ix-apps/app_configs/jellyfin/versions/1.1.21/templates/library/base_v2_1_16/resources.py", line 55, in _auto_add_gpus_from_values raise RenderError(f"Expected [uuid] to be set for GPU in slot [{pci}] in [nvidia_gpu_selection]") base_v2_1_16.error.RenderError: Expected [uuid] to be set for GPU in slot [0000:01:00.0] in [nvidia_gpu_selection] add_circle_outlineMore info... I've been googling for a few days and I can't find any solution that could help. I made sure the right GPU is showing up in the jellyfin/immich settings, I've rebooted and made sure the GPU isn't isolated in truenas. Anyone run into anything like this?

ROMM has HexOS listed on their site, I found that interesting
FangerZero replied to FangerZero's topic in Applications
Yes, trueNas makes sense though since it's been around for a while. But HexOS has not. all I'm saying I find it interesting that they'd take the time considering HexOS isn't even out of "beta"
