Moving from TrueNAS to HexOS

Question

Posted (edited)

About a week ago I finally bit the bullet and set up my first NAS, using TrueNAS Scale since I wasn't aware the HexOS beta was so close around the corner. ^^;
What are the chances I can move that data over to a HexOS install without needing to somehow run both OSes in parallel? (or upgrade the TrueNAS install to HexOS, but I understand that to be a non-goal)
If it is possible, I presume the Apps aren't as well-supported in the current version, so I would presumably not be able to keep the same applications as of right now? (audiobookshelf and nextcloud)

After watching the LTT video, since you can access the TrueNAS interface anyway, maybe we can make a backup of our current setup and then import that to a HexOS setup?

Hi there! The beta will not support migration, but as Jon has stated elsewere, we will look into "adoption" at a later stage.

But can I just do a fresh install of HEXOS and then mount my TrueNAS pools, even if I then need to setup everything again?
I have a lot of data and not many places to temporarily store it

Yes this is exactly what I'd hope, since I just spent a few days moving all my data on there and I'd need to spend a good couple days repeating that :p

Hi

So "adoption" will be done later. But what about the other way around?

If my HexOS bricks can i import its pools to other HexOS machine? Or even to a TrueNas one? As it works in TrueNas?

I see no reason why you would be unable to import your pool to regular TrueNAS, it's just a ZFS pool.
