Sweatyboi Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 As the title suggests, would I be able to host hex on a cloud server to play around with until I (one day) build a server for myself? Quote
Midnight2ss Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 (edited) Doesn’t truly support running as a VM found in the FAQ page hexos.com/early-access-faq Quote Can I install HexOS in a virtual machine? While HexOS is meant to be installed on physical hardware, it is based on TrueNAS SCALE, which does support use in a virtualized environment. For additional details on how to install HexOS in a VM, please see the TrueNAS SCALE documentation. Edited November 29, 2024 by Midnight2ss Mistyped Quote

Midnight2ss Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 You may be better off checking Facebook marketplace or something for an older used pc to test/play around with. But this is just a guess. As it’s in beta so having it hosted elsewhere may or may not cause further issues. 1 Quote

Midnight2ss Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 you can occasionally visit a local computer store. They might be willing to let you have a computer they were planning to recycle. However, they might remove the hard drive. It would be more advisable to obtain fresh, unused drives for the computer. Quote

I have 4 500GB SSDs I could use, main thing for me is I need to have the server be as power efficient as possible while still being able to run the occasional game servers and downloading Linux isos Quote
