idk if anyone has tried to install NextCloud via HexOS but I get this error, I tried seeing if I could figure out where logs might be in TrueNAS to at least get some information but i have no clue. And according to the reqs I should be fine. I will be adding more RAM Friday. idk what might be helpful to figure this out.

CPU: i7-2600k (4core, 8thread)
Ram: 20gb 1333 DDR3 (will be 32 1600 DDR3 soon)

Do I need to create these Folders or will the setup create them for me?

are you able to check in truenas if you get a more descriptive error?

as for the folders, you should not have to create anything.
The performance and capacity folders just refer to a ssd pool (performance) and hdd pool (capacity)
if you only have one pool it will be both your performance and capacity pool.

we will also be doing some more testing to see if we can figure out why it is not installing for you.

HexOS Gets a Major Upgrade

  December 26, 2025

Damn, launching a major update on the 26th of December is a bold move. I would have launched it in the first week of Jan as people using HexOS and celebrating Christmas would have been travelling (such as myself) and may have unknowingly reset their app settings after the update.

I do have a remote connection via Tailscale so it wouldn't be a huge issue but it could have been a ton of work for me and anyone else to re-setup apps, like Immich to enable offsite backups, especially if those people didn't have a laptop or desktop to make the process easier and faster.

I'm going to hold off on upgrading the apps until I get back and I'm going to backup all my data and settings before doing so as I don't want to lose access to my existing data and have to reinitialise the sync process.

Still, I appreciate the drive to get HexOS features deployed within the calendar year and HexOS continues to improve significantly and return value for money, especially for early adopters.

Same going to wait for a fix or reply on here if not truenas does have a rollback feature that let's you boot with the last version of truenas interface have used it before should work if it comes to it but does involve getting to the trunas interface via the IP of your server.

Update interface at hex os end seems to be back up this morning with a failed to update message however the update appears to have actually worked despite this message

We did deploy some hotfixes already but they were minor. The bigger issues are still being looked at by the team. We are on the trail of breadcrumbs now and should have most of this resolved soon. Thanks for everyone's patience and understanding.

Fixes are inbound!  We've been working on this since the first reports came in and believe we have identified the issues and are staging another hotfix deployment for later today.

Pushing a live hotfix right now that should address the majority of issues. For those experiencing problems, this should resolve them. If you are still stuck with specific apps, click options, reset, and try again. Still stuck?  Email support@hexos.com so we can investigate further.

Is hotfix comes with hexOS update? In that case i can't update because i got error "This server is not available" after last update, with only option to unclaim server. Can only access truenas.

I will try contacting support on tuesday as you mentioned,

thanks.

Live fixes do not require users to perform any action locally.  They hit our servers and affect everyone automatically.

We will get you sorted through support. We are still tracking down why some reboots are losing connectivity to the deck. If you are comfortable with truenas UI, you can revert to a previous working boot by going to System > Boot and them clicking the activate icon on the right for the previous boot environment.  Then restart.

Just got the update and have this feedback on trying it out on immich:

Thank god I didn't start with Nextcloud.

Is this the expected behavior? Or is something rather pointing to me having done something wrong that ended up in data being left behind? Maybe I didn't read a warning prompt right?

I think I'll land on my feet moving things manually for immich, but I have a lot more users on Nextcloud and I'm not sure I feel confident going through this again with Nextcloud...

Let me know if another communication channel is more appropriate to discuss this further

PS: please don't roll out risky things during holiday seasons. It's not worth it.

I have one question specific to Nextcloud.

My instance currently uses, as storage, iXvolumes, as per the default during the creation a while back. Given how I had to migrate immich's data manually from a Host Path to another, what might happen with Nextcloud volumes? (I can deal with moving stuff even though it's not ideal, but I want to be sure there won't be bad surprises)

nextcloud should be more forgiving with moving files and changing directories.

So, following the update is it now safe to click the update button below?

I'd really like to get a better idea of what is going to happen if I do.

Yes. It simply ensures the install script being used is based on our latest curation. Eg with Plex/jellyfin updating the config detected the presence of a GPU and enables hardware transcoding.

To be clear, these apps weren't installed via your curated versions. They were installed in TrueNAS. Is it still safe to click Update now?

When I installed the update, the update said successful but both of my apps said crashed. In truNAS I restated tailscale and the app deployed no problem. However, with plex I got this error and plex is stuck perpetually deploying. Does anyone have any idea why after the update I would be receiving this error?

Same. Haven’t been able to look on the truenas side of things yet, but plex and pi-hole both just say “CRASHED”. Rebooting won’t fix.

I am battling ACL type mismatch issues for the "Applications" system share after the Immich config upgrade changed the postgres data path and I had to manually move data there. Not sure if I caused this situation by moving files or if the "config upgrade" will do that by default, but it's quite probably people going through the same issues and manual solutions as me would end up in the same situation

Current status is: No SMB share config change is allowed on the "Applications" system SMB share; no chaning its access permissions nor even disabling the share altogether. Which is problematic as it now stores a database for a privacy-sensitive service, which now landed on a "public-by-default" datastore shared through the LAN.

I highly advise people with limited free time during this holiday season to not perform any such new "config upgrade" until either things are sorted our, or you have enough spare time to fix breakages.

There is no immediate issue with not doing it now, and no huge immediate benefit either, so just wait it out for now while the adventurous like me try to survive the unforseen consequences 🙂
