Paule96 Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I have a quite big question. I try to install HexOs on a PC that has a NIC that is not supported by TrueNas. Thats fine because I can build my own driver and install the driver just after boot. But it seems to be something special hapoens on the first boot of HexOs to enable all the Hex extensions of TrueNas. Does anybody know or wants to share how to run this again if it fails once? I'm currently really at a dead end for hexos what is really sad. Quote

That seems weird. I also have an unsupported nic and on 2nd or third boot i just added a usb nic without issue. That said there might be a couple workarounds that might work for you, if your first boot theory is true. plug in your boot drive to a pc with a supported nic and reinstall once you setup your custom driver you can move the boot drive to your server borrow a usb nic for first boot Quote
Paule96 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Hm you are right. I added a second ethernet card and now the server shows up correctly. So maybe my driver is just loaded to late for hexos. (because in the Deck I only see the ip of the offical supported nic) How I did it was quite a challenge but it is working so far: https://www.codez.one/adding-your-driver-to-truenas/ So I guess it's a timing issue when my driver is load. (I use the preinit scripts that truenas offers to load it) Edited 1 hour ago by Paule96 Quote
Mobius Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago im glad you were able to get hexos up and running. yeah it seems like quite an involved process to add drivers. i'll probably hold off on it for now. Quote
Paule96 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago not really running running, The problem is that I can choose between HBA or Network. What is both quite important for a NAS 😄 But I can not have both. At least not with HexOs. TrueNas alone as mentioned just works fine That why it would be quite interesting to know how to manually start the HexOs processes to give them a second chance to start when I'm ready Quote
