Knallblech_Server Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 Hi there! I’m planning to build a home server using HEXOS, and I had a simple but important question: Is it possible to back up a HEXOS server to a Windows PC located in a different house? Both systems would have 3x 8TB hard drives and would be connected to the internet—but not the same local network. I’m still a beginner and haven’t bought the parts yet. I just want to understand whether this is even possible before investing time and money.
Mobius Posted July 14, 2025 Posted July 14, 2025 yes this should be possible. i;m just not sure how you would go about it. its always a bit annoying dealing with machines on different networks. i imagine you would have to start with tailscale or a reverse proxy and then go from there.
ubergeek Posted July 16, 2025 Posted July 16, 2025 So the simplest way that I do this is Via Tailscale, I have the mapped drive from Hexos Via the Ip given by Tailscale running in Cobian Backup to do complete backups "only transferring new files" from my home PC's data drive. I also have the same thing running with URbackup on hexos that does a complete backup of the whole C drive into a img incase of my laptop becoming lost or stolen.
