jonp Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Update: As of 6/23, we have updated the ISO available in our READ ME FIRST post to the 24.10.2.2 version. New users installing with this version should NOT be affected by the issue documented below. Hi all, As of June 1st, attempts to install or update apps via either the HexOS or TrueNAS interface (running on 24.10.0.0) will fail. Users affected by this issue are welcome to install the 24.10.2.2 update via the TrueNAS interface to immediately resolve this issue. Our sincerest apologies to anyone currently affected by this. In the next two weeks, we will be publishing our Q2 update which will include the ability to update your underlying HexOS version to run on TrueNAS SCALE 24.10.2.2. Sincerest Regards, Jon 19
mickeymello11 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Will the Q2 update also allow us to upgrade TrueNAS to version 25.04? Or will we have to wait longer for the ability to upgrade to 25.04? 1
jonp Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 Only 24.10 train for the Q2 update for now. Technically users who upgrade via TrueNAS UI can go to 25.04 right now, but just know that we haven't done any extensive testing with HexOS against that release yet, so you would be completely trailblazing ahead of us. By 1.0, we should pretty close to being in lockstep with TrueNAS releases. I would imagine as TrueNAS major releases come out, we make them available to our users within a few weeks. 1 1

Wandering Nomad Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Has this got something to do with user & "app" shares to be completely broken? I've updated via truenas dashboard, now i have constant issues using existing and new users / SMB shares & "apps" permissions just stop working overnight. I though HEXOS dashboard was supposed to make these processes more simple without having to use the sh*tty ACL manager.
shurmanator Posted June 17 Posted June 17 I ran into this issue with Immich but was still unable to install the application after updating to TrueNAS 24.10.2.2 : Has this issue already been identified for the Q2 release?

I wouldn't recommend doing that, it causes problems and errors will accumulate. I've done that, I've reinstalled to make it stop, but if you're more tech savvy than me then maybe you can fix it. PS. I'm bad at writing English, but I speak it fluently.
havelthethot Posted June 18 Posted June 18 (edited) hindsight 20/20 I probably should have just used truenas and waited until hexos was at or near 1.0. I installed plex and immich from hexos and ever since I have only used the command deck for remote reboots. cool concept and im confident it will be awesome one day this update issue has been a thing for a while now and isn't a good sign for updates in the beta going forward. hearing the horror stories of manually updating truenas while using hexos id rather not manually update and hope the team has a solution soon. Have you documented the errors that you got from 25.04?

nicoack Posted June 19 Posted June 19 23 hours ago, nugglet said: Have you documented the errors that you got from 25.04? For me, it stopped showing RAM data, and on the processor, it tells me I'm using 90% when I'm using layers that are 10%. I didn't test anything else; I was waiting for the Q2 Update, but I read there that it won't go to 25, so I'll have to wait. The 25 has a very big update regarding containers and virtual machines, so you'll have to see it before adding that functionality in Hexos. 1
littleturd1 Posted June 26 Posted June 26 I assume if i have already updated my truenas to latest 24.10.2.2 there wont be any issues when Q2 hexos update roles out? 1

ATLiens4life Posted June 27 Posted June 27 After updating to 24.10.2.2 as suggested, my dashboard is reporting no storage pools present. Truenas does show my storage pools are running and healthy, and I have access to the data. One thing to note; I have used Truenas to create a RaidZ2 pool for extra redundancy. I have not had any issues with HexOS until now. I'm hoping this issue will resolve itself once the Q2 hexos update is completed.

I ended up just going through TrueNAS and installing immich that way. Not ideal but I got some experience with setting up an app in TrueNAS, and made it accessible through a custom domain. For whatever reason, Plex install worked just fine.

I've upgraded to 25. Works fine for me. Actually runs better, as my intel CPU was too new for TrueNAS 24, and I needed 25 to get the needed drivers for my iGPU

Most basic functionality will likely work fine, but some operations may throw errors. We are planning to skip the 25.04 train entirely in favor of upgrading users directly to 25.10. The main reason is that there are even more api changes coming, so we would rather just focus on the next major release than trying to make 25.04 perfect only to have to upgrade again before October. 3

Honestly I love these tidbits of info sprinkled all over the place. Having an idea as to why things are being done is great particularly in beta. 2

If folks want to find it, they can. I know a centralized repo of info would sound nice, but with all the little things here and there, it would end up looking more like a glossary or index and likely never get read, so this is better imho. 1 1
Todd Miller Posted July 18 Posted July 18 How about in the forum you add the level of TrueNAS that HexOS supports to that popup section at the top that has PSA and update announcements? Having this discussion in several places is confusing and probably not leading to the understanding you are looking for. 'TrueNAS 24.10.2.2 is the version we are built on but I tried 24.10.2.3 and it worked.' or 'Truenas 24.10 is the supported level but I head people on 25 are fine' only make the entire process look jumbled and confused. I'm not Linux/NAS expert so I can't necessarily tell a true HexOS issue from something you haven't even tried to work on yet. Perhaps a central place would stop the dozens of questions. And if it already is in what would be considered a central location, well it would seem by all the questions the forum disagrees. Your beta testers are clearly 'I wanna try that' people so I guess we need rails so we are not wasting time chasing non issues.. 1 1
hammerdown Posted July 27 Posted July 27 how about fixing plex so it works with out that error instead of having to go into shell and edit a file so it all one click and install and yes not everyone knows how to do that 1
