Manydemons Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I definitely had a windows share on wifi at one point. I really don't like the idea of going back to those days. If you can't do wired look into power line or coax line stuff. For a server in particular hardline is not just a preference for me but a requirement. Making everything slower and less reliable gets really old when you're moving large files, or running virtual machines.

It is wall mounted next to the appartment door. A wire to another room would be a pain in the a. Don't care about bandwith or stability. Wifi is convenient which this whole thing is about^^ It's arguments like these that just hit me right in the gut. Such a basic, but perfect argument. Ugh. I'll see what we can do. No promises and definitely not for 1.0. 2 2

I tried it. i placed the extender about 5 feet from the router i was able to access my smb share on my mac that is connected to my main network via wifi with no issues. a 1.45gb file took about 2 minutes 45 seconds to upload it took about 2:12 to retrieve that file when directly wired to my router it took around 1:10 to upload the file and then 18 seconds to retrieve that file Just got repeater and it works, guess it's only one workaround for now. I think there should be hack to use USB as ethernet source as pluging my phone to share home wifi, would be more confortable for me.

Jorge Lluva Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Hey! I know this thread is a bit old, but since it’s one of the most viewed feature requests here, felt like it’s worth bringing it back post 1.0 release (and kudos to the team for the release 👏). Any updates on this?
PsychoWards Posted April 23 Posted April 23 There has been no mention of this in the current roadmap. Your current options are either to place it somewhere where it can be connected via cable or get yourself 2 D-Lan adapters. 1
Vivi Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Is there a way to bridge the internet connection to a HexOS server from another computer that has internet? My situation does not allow me to have access to wired internet. I have the ability to connect my 2 computers together with an ethernet cable but cannot find information on how to bridge between the 2. Any insight would be appreciated.
G-M0N3Y-2503 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Technically it is possible, but configuring it could potentially be quite involved. Your sharing PC meets to act as a router. I think Windows had a slightly less involved way but I remember it being hit or miss, but that was like 10+ years ago now. 1
PsychoWards Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Your server would only have Internet/network connection as long as your PC is running. The moment you shutdown your PC the server loses connection.
G-M0N3Y-2503 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Actually, I run OpenWRT in a VM on my HexOS and I pass the WiFi card into it as a backup AP. But if you just want internet on your HexOS you could have that be the router that connects to your WiFi as any device normally would. The only thing outside of HexOS or OpenWRT would be creating a bridge device on TrueNAS.
