Failed Hard Drive Replacement methode

Recommended Posts

Hi all

as per the title one of my HDDs is faulty and i will be replacing it, the issue i have is that i have no spare SATA ports so the question is, can i shutdown the server, physically replace the damaged HDD with new one and then restart? or should i get a PCIE SATA card first and connect the new drive there and do the replacement via the UI?

By the way, i know the exact one since its the only WD in the pool, so there is no chance of mixing things.

Thank you

Mig

@jonp, In case of HDD faillure it would great if HexOs guides the user with the HDD replacement. A small wizard with a few questions and then advice: do this, do that. Especialliy for non tech users it will make a big difference. Users will be nervous in case of HDD faillure.  I think simple, low effort feature with big impact.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the follow up - always super helpful for users to be able to search for problems and find posted resolutions.
