Yes we see this as well and it was a misreading on the update notes on our part. The q2 update is going to be out soon which will enable OS updates. In the meantime users that feel comfortable updating via the TrueNAS UI can go to 24.10.2.2. This should not break any current functionality with command deck, but please let us know if you see anything. 1

I did some first checks, but until now HexOs seems to run without any issues.
Goatgarien Posted June 8 Posted June 8 (edited) My gripes with HexOS so far have been 1. Why did they release this with no method of changing your boot drive?????? I installed HexOS originally on an old Hard Drive because i figured I'd easily be able to change it later either through imaging or export/import of settings. Turn out, nope. zfs makes it rough to clone the image since it fills up the remaining drive space making it impossible to clone to a smaller SSD without very hacky workarounds that i did not want to risk trying and using the built in TrueNAS config export/import, doesn't bring back HexOS correctly. It's crazy that I am either forced to go through the HexOS install process which includes wiping the entire pool (which was created in HexOS mind you) or ignore hexOS entirely and just go straight to the trueNAS UI anytime I want to do anything, ignoring the entire setup process and just leaving hexOS not setup. (i did it this way and it works for me for now) 2. I can't upgrade trueNAS from within the trueNAS ui for the risk that it might break hexOS which I would still like to have working in the future whenever they finally allow me to import my pool. Normally, this wouldn't matter, but the version of trueNAS that hexOS is using has been dropped from app updating support as of June 1st. So, all the apps I have (including immich and plex) can't be updated unless TrueNAS is updated past 24.10.2.2 or later. All my Apps get an error when Updating them - Apps and Virtualization - TrueNAS Community Forums Admittedly, I have been using trueNAS for far more than the intended use-case hexOS is trying to offer at the moment. I've installed 22 apps so far lol. But I wouldn't be here if hexOS didn't entice me to finally get a NAS up and running since it makes it so simple to start. It's just really frustrating that the product I paid for, simply does not work for me for the past few months without risk of data loss. If I had never bought hexOS and still decided to run trueNAS myself, I'd honestly be happy still since it turns out I don't really need the training wheels that hexOS offers (though I still appreciate the product and what they're trying to do). I hope we'll hear something soon, especially since the app update thing is probably affecting every hexOS user now. Maybe one day I'll be able to re-import my hexOS pool into hexOS, get that web UI back up and running, and get a trueNAS 25.04 update rolled out. Edited June 8 by Goatgarien grammar

See a few posts above this where jonp suggests upgrading to 24.10.2.2 (NOT 25.x,) via the TrueNAS UI should be fine. I did so myself and have seen no issues as a consequence, except that I'm now able to update my docker instances again. I share your frustration with regards to the boot drive. I remember finding it rather unbelievable that someone would create a NAS solution and release it in any capacity without a feature to backup configuration in order to recover from a boot drive failure. The only reason I didn't back out right then, was realizing that TrueNAS does feature configuration backup/recovery, so if my boot drive fails all I lose seems to be the HexOS UI, which is currently pretty useless anyway. 1
DayEll Posted June 9 Posted June 9 the fact is HexOS was never ready! ive been in TrueNAS more than HexOS which is a shame. beta what's that? seems no beta going on here no updates for months nothing new to test out
Duncan Innes Posted June 10 Posted June 10 Let's not be too mean spirited about HexOS. Cutting some slack at this point is, I think, an acceptable approach. I share the frustrations of many, but I also sympathise with the developers who have found themselves dealing with a much bigger community than expected. Being in OS Engineering myself, I totally sympathise with the desire to get things right before letting it out the door. Being in OS Engineering myself. I am personally frustrated that I cannot get the latest functionality in a fortnightly drop to help test out. It's a tricky balance. I have my fingers crossed for the Q2 update to arrive during Q2 with an expanded landscape for testing. My greatest issue with HexOS unfortunately cannot be resolved by the devs. I am now speccing an imaginary server to meet an ever expanding list of requirements 😏 1

exilepc Posted June 10 Posted June 10 There are a few forum posts about this happening to users... I am honestly a bit frustrated myself...
