Adding GPU for encoding

I’ve been running hexos for a while now without any issues, I installed plex and now want to add a GPU to the system (cheap 1050 or arc 380), can I just add it to the system or do I need to do something special?

In theory you can just add it and then it should pass itself through.

Any idea how to make my intel cpu use hardware encoding? I have it enabled in truenas, I do see it in plex settings but when I play videos it does not show (hw)

Is this only an NVIDIA issue? as in if I buy and AMD GPU, will it just pass through with no issues or do I need to buy NVIDIA?
