As a way to test-drive the system, forcing provisioning of storage (which means wiping data) is scary as hell.

I completely understand the need for an active pool to assign for app (docker) deployment.

Thankfully, disconnecting the drives during provisioning, the step does not block.

Pros:

  • allow test-driving system before committing
  • allow troubleshooting the setup process without loss of data
  • allow advanced users to deal with data recovery

I second this.
I'd like to see a skip button on this step.
Will HexOS pick up that there is allready a pool on the attached storage?

so as of right now HexOs shouldn't pick up any existing pools however there are some workarounds that work to varying levels of success

Workaround options appreciated! 😃
I know its beta and all that, but id like to be sure that any new install wont nuke the current pool one the storage.
I won't loose any data as i have backups, but i'd like to avoid moving a few TB back and forth if i can.
Removing/disconnecting the storage prior to install is probaby the safest option, but how will the install wizard behave if it cant find any storage at that point?

Still, a simple skip option would be a quick-ish otion to add?
Or is there other stuff dependent on there being some form of storage?

If you have some USB (flash drives) lying around you can plug them in and make a temp pool with them to get past the pool requirements

Then you can go into truenas and import your existing pool.

It should should up in hexos

I think there was one user that said he went into truenas and imported first then hit the create pool button in hexos setup but hexos did not delete his pool and name a new one. That said do it at your own risk
