Erik Andersen Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 I Used an HP Z Series i7-12700, 32gigs memory, 500gig Samsung 870 SSD for HexOS and 3 4TB Crucial NVMe drives for 8TB available space. My main system (my first mass produced computer in 35 years) is an Alienware i9-13900K, 64gigs DDR5, RTX Founders 3070TI and 2 WD Black Series 2TB NVMe's in RAID0. I have an HP SFF Mini handling Scanner web duties for my Uniden SDS200. My server is an HP G9 ML350, server 2019, 192gigs of HP Smart memory, with 8 900Gig drives in RAID6 (being rebuilt with 2TB SSD's next year) Quadro P2000 (for the Plex server) and it provides shares for the family plus media etc... , the HexOS box will be handling server backups and testing possibly replacing the HP server when they have video card support. I control the Z, Mini and ML350 locally with a KVM and remotely with Chrome RDP. I'm looking forward to HexOS getting the dashboard locally and seeing where this goes! Hopefully it gets good enough for me to shut down the server some day, or at the very least I can shrink the server size down considerably, we'll see. 1 Quote
Erik Andersen Posted December 14, 2024 Author Posted December 14, 2024 First server backup to the HexOS NAS, 1.74Gbps isn't too bad, I'm going to be tackling Tailscale next. Quote
Dylan Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 @Erik Andersen That's some nice gear, you (and HexOS) will get there. I too will be implementing tailscale for the fist time as soon as my new chassis arrives. Completely off-topic, but I am digging your speakers in the background - I remember those well. Keep us posted on how it goes with tailscale and good luck! 1 Quote
Erik Andersen Posted December 14, 2024 Author Posted December 14, 2024 Well chit, HexOS just went offline in the middle of the backup, the computer shows everything is running but the dashboard deck won't load and TrueNas says the link is down.... Great... Quote

Theo Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 (edited) Tailscale was SO easy to install, and been seamless so far for me, and great to access Immich remotely. Theres a great guide HERE if needed. Edited December 14, 2024 by Theo 1 Quote

Theo Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Not that i've seen, but there have been some issues with Immich in how it installs and doesn't create certain folders and permissions correctly. I'd read THIS thread as gives you a good sense of some workarounds / foxes people came across. 1 Quote

Erik Andersen Posted December 15, 2024 Author Posted December 15, 2024 Tested from my laptop on my hotspot, works nice and fast via tailscale, sweet. Quote
Dylan Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Good stuff, @Erik Andersen - Hoping I can get it set up just as easily. The credentialing part is the only thing that gives me pause. If I understand it correctly (and I may not) the weakest link here is the 3rd party authentication; git, google etc. So, if I provide access and a user has a weak PW, that's greatest threat vector. I need to RTFM a bit more, but so far, that is where my attention will be focused on users not on my physical LAN. 1 Quote
