trekimann Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Hello, I was wondering if there is some solid advice on moving data from my Unraid server to shiny new hexOS. My Unraid has three 4TB HDD (One is the parity drive) and two 1TB NVME drives (One is a cache). I don't have enough external storage to just copy out, install hex, copy back. Is there a way for Turuenas/Hex To respect the existing data structure? I expect not but just wanito check. Thanks
trekimann Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 And as an aside, I see from the install guide it says "not recommended to install on a USB drive" but can you install it to usb?
arvinpw Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I don't think you can migrate fron unRAID to TrueNAS (hence HexOS too) because they using different file system for storage. And technically, you can install to USB drive, but highly not recommended. USB drive tends to fail more frequently. 1
trekimann Posted December 13, 2024 Author Posted December 13, 2024 So my only option is convince my brother to buy my old NAS so I can buy new Storage and kit out the new NAS then do a network file transfer overnight. That's what I thought but wanted to check. And the usb was more to use it as a test bed before I wipe the windows install on the NVME I have.
